Well, it should be if you set it up right according to how fast you run, etc.

I honestly prefer just running outside, it's a more refreshing way to exercise

But then again if I get tired I have to walk home whereas you can just step off and you're at home

I think it's worse than running outside. Pain wise, it entirely depends on the type of treadmill you're on (hard or soft padded), but to me it feels like being a rat in a cage. Same goes for anything else with a set speed and even exercise bikes.

Depends, if you fall asleep from boredom while running on a treadmill you could hit your head on one of the hand bars and have a concussion. Running on grass or on a track might be better way since it's not so repetitive and it still gives padding to your feet. If you have good running shoes thats good too.

I run a lot, but not very often on treadmills. For me, it's harder to keep proper form because you don't have to "push" off the ground to keep yourself going forward, so I tend to let my feet kind of just slap and then pick them up again. I've heard the argument it's actually easier on your ankles and knees because they have more "give" than say blacktop, but I find they actually hurt more.

I think if you run on a treadmill, your cardiovascular endurance will definitely improve, but as for supporting structures in your legs, ankles, and feet I feel the real deal is much better. You actually walk on the ground, so it's a more natural feel and movement than a treadmill.

Also all the indoor pollutants can't be good for you if ur doin cardio (i make that assumption based on no scientific data, except the air purifier commercials that are like "indoor pollutants are x% worse than outdoor!" where x is a shocking number) unless u live in a city in which case ur kinda screwed either way =(

Yes, it is a lot easier.

I used to run a lot outside, but I recently started running on treadmills, and it is a lot easier, for the following reasons:

a) No wind resistance
b) Perfectly flat surface
c) Indoor climate (it's a gym, so the temperature is adjusted for exercising)

If you put it on 1.0 incline, it's supposed to be closer to what you would get from running outdoors, or so I was told.
When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

Ok thanks, I usually change up the speed, go from 1.0 to 4.0, then go up .5 maybe every 30 seconds until 7, drop back down for a bit. I realized that when I actually ran a mile, I was really tired but on a treadmill, it was like bleh.
