I want to reformat my laptop

You know, sometimes when you buy things cheaply, you get what you got. I love my laptop with all my heart, but barely in it's first year, it went into the "OH, GOSH, YOUR LAPTOP'S HDD IS DYING, IT IS IMMINENT, SAVE ALL FILES THAT YOU NEED BLAH!" This crushed me, I have saved $900 for this laptop, it's an HP Pavillion, did I even spell that right? It has 80GB on the HD, and has XP Home installed, it's even got a frigging remote! Woot! Oh and 512MB RAM. Now, more and more issues have popped up. I use DEADAIM on my laptop as I use on my desktop, nothing is wrong with the DEADAIM on my desktop, yet it crashes all the time. Now it picks up shitty connections with it's wifi.

My question is this, if I reformat my laptop, do I need to have files for drivers and such? When I bought the laptop, it didn't have driver CD's or anything like that. This goes for the connection or whatever, or do I have to install some files for the wifi?

I know my Dell laptop has a secret partition with factory settings in it. If I press a certain key combination as it starts up, it will revert to the original state with a fresh windows installation and and the stupid trial versions of different things. That's almost like reformating except it takes less time. Your laptop might have something like this.

If you reformat, that usually means you need to reinstall windows which you might not be able to do without a CD. The best place to look is at the support section of the HP website, I guess. When they don't give you a CD with your laptop, they should have some other way of letting you start over.

If you do reformat, remember to save all your important files and data somewhere first.

I only use the laptop to write C++, and to chat with friends, I don't use it other than that, have no idea why this happens to my laptop. I don't even have StarCraft installed into it. I have the Windows XP CD. I was just wondering what about the drivers and sorts, and if I were to download new drivers, how would I know which ones to download?

if u just reformat it then u should need all the drivers.
but well thats not so hard imho.....
just dl them now and save to a stick.

how to know which drivers:
just look in ur control panel---->system---->hardware tab---->Device Manager
here u can right click every component of ur laptop. write down complete name and just google "<name> driver"
and dl it for xp-

u should need drivers for: gfx card and audio card

I don't even have StarCraft installed into it.

this is a shame.....
