years of gaming in weird posture, never exercising, walking my head down looking at the ground

I have been suffering from neck shoulder and back pain on my right side for about, can't remember exactly but more than 1 year. Finally decided to have it checked. And voila I have neck hernia.

After looking at my MRI scans doctor immediately said there is nothing that can be done medically. When I asked what will happen now, he said that the pain will worsen in time, gradually becoming unbearable even with painkillers and then I will have surgery, which is not an easy one and doesn't solve the problem completely.

Whatever I ask the answer goes like this: Can I ride bicycle? Yes you can, if you can tolerate the pain. Can I sit in front of pc? Yes you can, as long as you don't mind the pain. WTF disease is this? I can do whatever I like as long as I pay some price in pain. btw I'm a coder so I can work as long as I can bear the pain...

There are treatments but are all focused on reducing the pain, there's no solving the problem completely. I'm 28 years old, if I live until 70 I have to live with pain for 42 years...

There's no fix to some mistakes made in life. Especially on health. Take great care of your body guys.

Forgive my ignorance here but is there nothing that I chiropractor can do? I would imagine that if you take steps to correct your posture moving forward than it would at least stop it from getting any worse

she told me she can help with "today's problems" like the light pain im suffering now but can't say much about the future. (she means physical therapist or chiropractor, are they the same?)

Hmm, im certainly no expert when it comes to medical science but i know a lot of people that do lots of sport and therefore i know lots of people who are injured regularly. And more than once i've heard the story of a doctor telling someone they wont be able to do this or that ever again. And most of the time this doesnt come true; not even close.
Also, I had and have a really bad posture. In fact it was so bad that when i went to the physical examination for army and took off my shirt the present doctor called for his colleague and they had a little laugh before they sent me straight back home :> i kid you not.
That was about a decade ago. I went to physical therapie, built up necessary muscles and ever since im pain free. Which i wasnt before.

So, i don't wanna trivialize your situation, or pretend to know something the doctors dont, and i know trainig can be a bitch esp. if your not used to any sports. But at least from my experience you have reason to be hopeful.

Well, just wanted to let you know this. Hope you get well (or at least better)

They definitely aren't the same; credible chiropractic manipulations are much more limited and often times border on pseudoscience if overgeneralized, and becoming a chiropractor doesn't require a doctorate, whereas physical therapists are actual, real doctors who have a working knowledge of the entire body. That being said, the chiropractic manipulations that are actually credible are related to the back and posture, so either practice might help out your situation.

A quick google search shows several claims that the surgery is highly effective for severe cases and that less severe cases can improve with anti-inflamatory medication and physical therapy. I suggest you try to contact a different physician for a second opinion, maybe the current one is just not very good?

right now I am doing the exercises therapist gave me. They really helped to reduce my pain in a few days. Although the fact that I have to deal with this thing my whole life disrupts my morale, it is not the first time I felt down, it may improve too.

I can see where you're coming from, I have a life-long disease as well. From my experience, you get used to it and move on, if you can control the unpleasant effects reasonably. Just keep positive
