EPTand i wanted to just bring it to people's attention again , if you are wondering what to watch and in a TV series mood
from what i remember, The Shield was highly reminiscent of Incontrol rollplaying Vincent Longborn:
it revolves around a very powerful, domineering character - physically strong, highly charismatic and extremely smart - who pursues questionable goals and with absolute ruthless regard towards others around him
if you remember Vincent Longborn (iirc) , he would not hesitate a moment to kill someone who he thinks is a threat to him and his quest. often this callous nature would leave people around him to question his morality and fear his judgement.

the series is a bit like Breaking Bad except that things start off bad and continue to be messed up as time goes on. the series climaxes with an escalation of events that IMO is one of the most memorable and fearless escalations you could hope for
there are a lot of slow, cliche cop show characters and moments iirc but the unique, powerful main character is something to behold and compelling to watch his journey and the ultimate outcome of his nature
season 1 got 93% on metacritic, whatever that means, and imdb gives the show 8.7
