So I guess it should be fun to log my calibration games here during the search times,
I am 2100 mmr so obviously want to re-calibrate and shocked at having the chance!!
Game 1 I pick voker and play badly against a decent TA and pretty badly the rest of the game. It was clearly one of those games where no one on my team knows what they're doing (objective/team-wise) and we lost to a 14-2 Sven who farmed for a little while then jumped us with BKBs and compstomped from then on. Hero: Invoker Stats: 7-2-9
Score: 0-1
Game 2 I pick voker and they are pretty shit Hero: Invoker Stats: 17-0-6
Score: 1-1
Game 3 The lanes filled out and we needed an offlaner so I picked clock, the start went OK but for some reason my team wanted to 5v5 nonstop mid for 30 minutes and lost five 5v5 battles in a row nonstop until end. I did tell them for 20 minutes straight to stop 5v5 because clearly we lost every single time but they keep doing it. They just didn't know what to do. I played like shit too, I guess we all "trapped" one another in the 5v5 situations. Or maybe our 14 death LC was responsible for that shit, probably Hero: Clock Stats: 9-11-15
Score: 1-2
Game 4 I pick Sven coz I fancy playing carry for a change, have free farm lane then go 0-5 and get reported by my team for making a bkb instead of attack speed. I don't play melee carries so I have no idea if you're supposed to go early bkb or not (I went treads bkb and tried joining some fights and we just wiped every time). I mean usually I would go blink but thought I'll just get a bkb and run at them, it didn't work. It looked to me like our alchemist was randomly 1v5ing a few times and just getting 1-shot. They had a 21-5 zeus and 18-7 axe at the end of the game. We probably lost because of retarded aka zero teamfight co-ordination whatsoever but apparently it was all my fault for not getting a hyperstone (absolutely zero mention of blink dagger)? Idk, sad to have this as a calibration game, I should probably just pick dazzle/voker/lina from now on :/ Hero: Sven Stats: 2-8-10
Score: 1-3
Game 5 OK back to invoker vs 2ks. KDA is freakin ~4.1 at the moment so lets hope for some more games like this and get it to 5 somehow (not that KDA probably does anything) Hero: Invoker Stats: 7-1-15
Score: 2-3

Game 6 People are picking zeus I think because of the KDA boost thing but 2k zeus isn't that great... Hero: Invoker Stats: 15-1-13
Score: 3-3
Game 7 HOLY SHIT this was one of the best games of my life. I picked Lina mid and was against a Viper who seemed to know all he needed to do was run at me and I couldn't go fucking near him. Then he, their DK (iirc) and their Slark all picked up insanely early shadowblades and it was just buttfuck from then on. My team was bickering and I kept just saying "try hard " and calling for them to buy smokes and pinging that I was making a scythe and saying to stay close. You can see the graph hit -20,000 against their Slark, Viper, DK, Sven lineup vs our weak PL Weaver (and Lina who was just thinking this was impossible). Fortunately we started getting pickoffs (their DK, Sven and Sky were actually really bad) and with some CLUTCH black hole -> Lina stun timings + scythe play we got our PL super huge and the opponents just went on crazy tilt seeing how we were playing so cleverly. The mid Viper was talking a lot of shit in Russian when he was like 10-0 or whatever and called me newb 1k mmr in chat. After lategame he literally gave up and stood there while we buttfucked him with scythe gem.
If you wanna watch a really sick comeback against a buttfucker Viper shadowblade lineup the game is here: http://www.dotabuff.com/matches/2368839248 It doesn't get much better than this boys
Hero: Lina Stats: 11-5-21
Score: 4-3
For reference, here's the face of a real buttfucker
Game 8 Another afk invoker game but I had insanely shit spell control and discipline so we almost lost. The average mmr in this game was like 2.2k I think which is a pretty big drop lul. KDA is possibly 6.0 now but don't trust my math Hero: Invoker Stats: 8-2-23
Score: 5-3
Game 9 Automatic loss. 0-10 omni and 0-12 LC. I went ~7-0 at start The LC has 233 games of LC (most played hero) with a 37% win rate and 1.6 KDA. http://www.dotabuff.com/players/296197811 Nuff sed Hero: Invoker Stats: 9-6-6
Score: 5-4
*update I added the LC to ask why he's so bad and he said he's a console gamer and not used to using a mouse #myMMR
Game 10 Boring voker game where I don't really do anything and our slark goes 100-0 Stats: 7-1-7
FINAL SCORE: 6-4 FINAL KDA: 5.71* OLD MMR:2128 CALIBRATED MMR: 2567
*in adding up KDA, 0 deaths is always counted as 1 death coz I think that's how dotabuff does it
Comments:
If I had just stick to voker/mid roles then probably higher score. I notoriously can't win playing carry so i'm not surprised the Sven game went awful.
The clock game seemed pretty weighted against me unless I stepped up and organised the team, maybe if I used microphone it would have been a different story but instead it was just a 5v5 slugfest when they CLEARLY had the hero and team advantage for it and we didn't (and no1 wud listen to me when I kept telling them).
Game 1 with Invoker was just our team being outplayed/outfarmed insanely like we were lost sheep. And game 9 with Invoker was literally unplayable (at least for my level of play, they were just dancing rings around my guys).
So could I have won +2 games? I think easily yes.
In the future I think I should be more aware of what heroes I actually WIN with and which ones I just "think" I should win with. I mean I have the mechanics to treadswitch between spells and all that jazz, but I don't clearly have no idea to actually WIN playing a safelane carry.
This week I played 24 games of Invoker at 2100-2500 MMR and had a 6.21 KDA. My winrate was 50% (admittedly some of these were "i dont give a fuck jungle invoker" games lul)

hey, gl. how does recalibration (assuming on the same account) work? do you not have "hidden" mmr from previous dota games, prior to calibration?
i mean it's not to hidden for the players involved since you can see the top on each team at hero picks, and then obviously after the games.

i am 2100 mmr and the new compendium allows you to calibrate and compete in a separate "the international mmr" by queueing in the "the international ranked matchmaking"
i'm guessing it starts at your normal ranked mmr and goes +/- 100 points per game, and may factor in KDA slightly
you can only see the average party mmr but you can ask players what their normal ranked mmr is
i literally just played one of the best games of my fucking life holy shit (game 7)

i heard it ignores ur ranked mmr, cuz it's putting people who are 6k+ into 4k average games

Thanks for sharing the stuff. Statistically +400 MMR doesn't justify you are in 2100 trench by itself. Whole ranked adventure of me started with 3900, dropped 3300 during hoho-haha and ~4200 nowadays with a declining fashion so I can safely say I am calibrated more or less the same ballpark MMR since the beginning.
Only thing I got from the experiment for you is to stick with less roles and less heroes until having better mechanics and overall a better player. Also don't give a single fuck to 0-15 losers.
Sick mofo pic btw. Have fun.

thanks buddy
i think i originally calibrated/rose around 3400 but , apart from a few short weeks here and there, i never really played to "win". always i just play to push some buttons and if my team is dumb then why should i give a fuck if we win or not? you don't care if you win when you're playing a game with kindergarten kids, do you?
but this new calibration "experiment" by valve has given me (and i can imagine many many many similar people to me) an opportunity to care about winning again
i think i should watch some pro replays now to see how i can turn my (pretty good??) KDA into actual wins , being more aware of how to last hit / micro mid with invoker , and working on understanding patience and accuracy with lategame spell usage (e.g. playing in difficult spots in pub dota)

+400 MMR is a huge change when you essentially just went even.
I wonder how they're doing this.
|
congrats ffgenerations. that's all i have to say really :D the international calibration thing is funky, i think i'll look into it.
|
Quite interesting that you gain 400 MMR from going +2 which would be like +50 MMR normally.
I calibrated at 3.9k when ranked was originally launched, pulled myself to 4k that week I think and haven't really touched solo ranked after that.
Going to do my 10 calibration matches and not touch solo ranked till next potential no risk re-calibration. Done 2 matches so far and already played with more angry/tilting man-children/children than during this entire year in unranked.

coz my average score per in-game is approximately comparable to 6-2-6 or 2-2-10 which is about 3x better than all other people of that mmr? i mean that's how i look at it: 100 MMR per game and 200 bonus for being l33t
maybe i'll play another 10 games today and see that happens
thanks for the congrats :D its funky coz it gives a lot of people in my spot ("cant be bothered to play to win anymore") a much needed booster, a string of hope. i mean its not great if you go 5-5 and nothing happens, but if you think you're a GOOD player at your MMR, and i've said before that i BELIEVE i can go 8/10 wins if i play seriously using Lina at this MMR (or QOP), then you should feel confident going into it
you also get to play with only compendium owners, arguably a shift towards more mature dota players, and at least right now they are all calibrating too (although clearly some of them don't realise it or it means nothing to them coz they still play VS bots half the time lol wut?)
* edit actually i did play 3 more games last night,
Dazzle: 3-10-40 WIN , had a doom who rightclicked mid nonstop all early game (i mean, clicked PAST the towers so he could fight there wtf?) and a pa who wouldnt go mid so i sat there tanking super creeps half the time while the clock ticked on, we won because we had a PA (also i was popping linkens with my q and had farmed a scythe before our doom had half an item. oh yeah and god forbid anyone but me have detection, even at 40 minutes when i am pinging "need 160 gold to buy sentry" no1 bats an eyelid lol)
Invoker: 3-2-7 LOSS, i had 54 denies vs their bot-tier windrunner who sat mid trying to 1 on 1 for ages, we lost immediately when their silencer omni pa sven walked mid and and didn't stop walking (how is this lineup allowed?? lol)
Invoker: 6-2-12 WIN, i had 38 denies this game but can't say how many were 1 on 1. didn't have much impact this game, our sven seemed to win it
|
bet u maxed stun with sven
|
i dont think i rightclicked a hero more than twice the entire game really
think i went 4-2 today in international (stopped playing it when i got a lv5 timbersaw at 15 mins who kept pinging his level and i just raged like crazy)
|
When I see how many denies you get, sometimes I wonder if you're spending too much time in lane when maybe you could have pushed it out and farmed a jungle camp or two in the meantime.
|
i almost exclusively play mid (or sup) and generally go phase blink (voker) instead of midas (although i've been going midas more often lately).
this is 2k so often you get a lot of denies. then sometimes i get denied a lot coz i play like crap. i mean my early game is me going 5-0 or whatever often enough. i think my biggest issue is with my late game where i tend to miss/waste a lot of spells , i think thats what i really need to work on. (my last hitting is awful with invoker too, i forget not to feed my golems to mids who nuke them down, and ive literally never sent my golems to the runes coz i never thought about it until just now). but yeah im pretty sure its my late game missing meteor in difficult spots which is my main weakness
when i play carry (i mean, not mid) i tend to hold the lane back and then lose because i didnt run after my team who are behind the tier 2s for some reason. at least that's my perspective. i dont play carry because thats what happens every game and i cbf to grind some carry heroes to improve on them right now. often players are awful in 2k and will 3v5 or 4v5 for no reason chasing up highground and in randomly opponent jungle and i've always refused to move from my spot in lane coz i know what they're doing is such a massive waste of time and stupidity. however, in order to win i realised that i need to follow them nomatter what, because what i'm doing right now isn't working. but yeah i avoid playing carry almost as a rule (although i love playing those heroes. but now i started playing ember a bit so i can do it with him mid lol >< )
heres my games from the past week, ember invoker, lina and dazzle notably , i would say they're my go-to heroes at the moment and going forward
http://www.dotabuff.com/players/114635809/heroes?date=week&skill_bracket=&lobby_type=&game_mode=®ion=&faction=&duration=&metric=played
my winrate is awful though , it looks like its 62% counting ONLY those heroes , but a bit higher because i wasnt tryharding with invoker at the start of the week (ie going jungle with him, if that actually makes any difference in 2k *edit also some were partied with my friend where i usually dont care about winning at all lol)
had some awful games yesterday and playing like trash today but it'll pass
