I was just hired through the ESL program to teach English to preschool and elementary kids in a hagwon (privately run English teaching school) in the city of Daegu. I look forward to teaching, getting into the music scene, and, of course, finally seeing live Starcraft.

If anyone has directions to the SSL studios and the GOM studios I would greatly appreciate it.

Be careful of hagwons. Some of them are known to be shady (don't pay you on time, decrease your wage without warning, etc.)

Daegu is lovely, you have to eat Ddang Ddang chicken, Daegu's most famous food! It's delicious!
Also Daegu is conviniently central, and you can go to Pohang's amazing beach in like one hour *.*

It's the YBM ECC hagwon. It's one of the older schools so I should be more secure than other hagwons.

Would Pohang be better than Busan for the beach?

Congratulations and good luck.
Please try to be as open minded as possible and except you're not in your country anymore so things will be different (I don't understand people who come over here and start complaining things aren't the same as back home. Of course they are not). I'm sure you will manage to have a good time and enjoy your time in Korea.

Thanks Greg! I've actually been wanting to live in Korea for several years now. Plus, I am a very open-minded and easy-going person, so I shouldn't have too much trouble settling in.

Hagwon bosses that insist on unpaid overtime/advertising and pay you a week late before trying to fire you a month prior to your severance/plane ticket will certainly test you. YBM ECC was my first and worst job in Korea, hopefully yours is run by the company and isn't just paying for the franchise name.
Yhamm is the god of predictions

Busan as a city is just a lot bigger than Pohang, so there are several gigantic beaches.
One cool thing about the beach in Pohang is you can see this at night:

And there is a scene of foreigners playing Ultimate Frisbee there quite often.

Update. Daegu is great. I lucked out with my school. Lesson planning is minimal and I have a lot of freedom with the material I teach. My co-teacher is great and I've made friends with a few co-workers. Teaching isn't easy but it is definitely more rewarding than my previous jobs.

Everyone in Daegu is so friendly and the food is legit. I may never leave Korea. Here's just one example why...

I found a coffee shop that roasts in-house in my neighborhood. I was used to going to roastaries back home, so I was excited to find a good roaster among the hundreds of coffee shops in my district. Literally, hundreds. Korea is coffee crazy.

I go to this particular coffee shop pretty regularly and the owner has gotten to know me. We try to talk to each other in Hangeul and English when I go in. She's even given me complimentary drinks. I was pretty sure she liked me coming in the past couple of weeks. Then yesterday I went in to sip espresso and listen to music on my phone, as I usually do. Her daughter introduced herself when she took my order. Then about an hour later (at about 8PM) she walked over to me and asked if I had had lunch yet. I said no. Her and her mom invited me to have lunch with the her son and a co-worker on the deck in the back. We had homemade ssamjang, pork belly, sanchu, and other side dishes. She lives upstairs and had a garden in the back where she pulled the lettuce from, fresh. Her daughter had actually studied for a year in Minnesota, so we could talk a little more than me and her mother.

I went to Korea dreaming of getting to know a local shop owner and being invited to eat with their family. I was on such a high having done so in my first month here.
