even if left my position in TLHQ I find it hard to stop thinking about TL and esports. A couple of weeks ago I woke up with the idea about Esports card collecting game. The concept is pretty simple - bridge all TL sub sites and create a fun and engaging feature for people with different interests to enjoy. You can see some concept pages here:
You will be able to buy packs with random cards by earning gold on the TL network. If you are familiar with how the gold store on LiquidDota works, it is pretty similar to that. All activities - logging in, posting, editing Liquipedia and voting on Liquibet will generate gold you can buy the cards with. There won't be any real money transactions!
You will be able to sell cards on a marketplace and earn more forum gold that way. By collecting specific cards you will also unlock a large variety of achievements. There are also going to be leaderboards for top users based on cards collected and gold earned or spent by trading.
I've been discussing with the rest of TL's staff how many cards we should make for people to collect and I think for all games combined the number will be about 600, maybe more. So there will be plenty to do.
Of course it is uncertain if that project will ever become a reality - there's still a lot of work to be done. I just wanted to share with you the concept as it looks like right now, because I've been extremely excited to work on it in the last few weeks.
One possible I see is, if people earn gold by posting, there will be lots of spam in the forums. On the other hand Liquibets and FPL seem a great way to earn gold while encouraging people to play more

I have to opinions on this. 1. Gold from posts should come from LR threads and news posts exclusively. 2. Spammers who get warned or banned suffer a gold penalty.
Well damnit, now I have a third idea. Gold penalties from warnings sound hilarious and awesome. Banlings get to choose the severity of gold lost based on their moods. I want this!
Pretty nifty idea, though it does look like setting the whole thing up would be a ton of work
I particularly like the idea that it would span eSports. Splitting Liquid into different game sites was certainly a necessary decision, but I feel one of the downsides was that it segregates and isolates the respective communities, so something lighthearted like this could be a great addition
I'm also in favor because I'm a TL junkie and would look forward to buying tons of these things

I think it's important to note that we've had the LiquidGold on LiquidDota for a while and spamming hasn't been an issue. Although the introduction of the cards could encourage it, I'm not sure it would actually be that big of an issue. I guess with TL having a bit more traffic it might be different.
this is a pretty cool idea & a great way to encourage more activity on the site. Great idea, now comes the hard part, actually creating the content to make it a reality. Looking forward to seeing it!
I've been using Liquibet for some time, I just got into FPL last round and I really like this idea :D
About earning gold from posting, yeah, the spam can be tricky. Maybe make a limit that you need to be registered on the forum for a certain period of time and have a certain number of posts before you can start earning gold from posting? I mean if someone isn't banned by that time, they're less likely to spam. Liquibets and stuff would work immediately since there's no risk. Please don't limit it to news threads though since most of my posts are in fan clubs, thanks <3

There could be also rewards for those who keep their account clean (no bans nor warnings) during the current week/month... It will work as an incentive for people to think twice before shit posting
