When I was 14 years old I received a cool book as a birthday present with the title "The World's Greatest UFO and Alien Encounters". I read that book many times over and became obsessed with the idea of extraterrestrials. The book goes into detail over everything. That there are several different races of aliens including robots, insects, humanoids, and the classic greys, that their origins come from nearby galaxies as well as far away universes, that their spaceships come in a variety of shapes and forms with properties that are far more technologically advanced than the smartest humans can invent including anti-gravity propulsion systems, that in ancient times aliens descended to Earth and that our ancestors mistook alien visitors for Gods thus fueling all the major world religions, that aliens check up on humans every once in a while to monitor our progress as a species, that they are concerned with our nuclear capabilities and try to warn us not to destroy ourselves, that people who have come into contact with extraterrestrials often discover that they magically develop special senses and gain new talents and abilities as well as appreciation for the natural world, that many people experience abductions late at night and can only remember memories of the experience as a result of regressional hypnosis and they cannot account for or explain inexplicable losses of time, that aliens are secretly breeding alien-human hybrids because many alien races have become infertile and so many human women are artificially impregnated and often have what they assume to be miscarriages which are in reality the fetus being taken out of her body to be given birth among the stars, that many major governments choose not to reveal classified information they possess on extraterrestrials, that many governments cooperate with aliens to develop fantastically super advanced technologies with the coordinated efforts of NASA and the private sector by reverse engineering extraterrestrial devices that can potentially have military and eventual civilian applications, and in the prominently rising interest of UFOlogy whose proponents many of whom are respected scholars in their respective fields and what is a massive underground movement. I am so fascinated by extraterrestrials and want to know more.
Aliens possess such advanced technology including stealth capabilities that allow them to monitor human activity with negligible detection risk. They essentially consider us as their children and view the human race with fascination. When parts of extraterrestrial spacecraft have been recovered from occasional crashes, these objects have invariably been confiscated by major government agencies or organizations around the world with no transparency or accountability and under false pretenses of national security, global social order, and classified/confidential information pertaining to primarily military research and weapons development.

If you wanted to abduct woman to artificially inseminate people and you're a superintelligent race of aliens it seems extraordinarily inefficient to come and go each time.
I've always thought people who actually believe in aliens and the likes are very religious people who don't dare to be openly religious, and thus mask it as "science" and conspiracy.

So you are saying you don't believe in aliens at all?

I'm saying I don't "actually" believe in aliens. It means that "at all" may be slightly exagerrated, but if you make a scale going from 0 (not at all) to 100 (actually believing), I'm somewhere around 10 I guess?

Huh interesting. I mean i don't think that aliens are just around the corner watching us, but the universe is pretty big ^^ It would greatly surprise me if the earth would be the only planet with life on it.

I look at it the other way, hehe. If you think we are the only form of life, this sounds more religious if you ask me (but i guess you are mostly talking about conspiracy theories like in the op?!)

Yeah I'm mostly talking about conspiracy theories. I mean between saying "the universe is big, there may be aliens somewhere" and "aliens are ruling our world, they watch us like children, monitor our progress, are in touch with our governments and make our wives pregnant only to take the babies" there is quite a stretch d: (that's mostly in the "they watch us like children and monitor our progress" that I find the religious feeling).

haha yeah sure, this kind of stuff is absurd, but pretty funny to read actually.
Talking about StarCraft this made me remember that there wasa time where I would think what would I do if the zerg invaded earth.
Now on topic, I think there is life on other planets, but the planets are so far apart from.each other that j don't think an alien race could communicate or be check in us
I've read a lot of alien/UFO literature, but I'm still a skeptic on whether or not UFOs are of extraterrestrial origin. Very few UFO sightings are actually unexplainable. There are a number of hoaxes, classified military aircraft, and metallic weather balloons that account for nearly every UFO sighting.
Some UFOs, however, cannot be accounted for with a 'logical' explanation, but this doesn't necessarily mean that they correlate with extraterrestrial intelligence. There are definitely phenomena that are unexplained, but it doesn't help to jump to conclusions.
I want to tack a disclaimer at the end of this post by saying that I am completely closed to the idea of alien life. I just think that more concrete proof has to come forward, and I'm especially surprised this hasn't happened yet with everyone having a camera on their phone, and every dashboard in Russia having a video recorder.

"legacy of the confederacy" or something was a fanmade (?) campaign where the zerg nearly completely took over earth before the protoss rescued us. That sure was a fun campaign. A lot of effort was put into it, like voicing over and such. Great memories.
I've actually been reading quite a lot about UFO abduction accounts recently because I find it interesting (and have done since I was a kid, like OP I had a book about UFO sightings and abductions). I don't believe they actually happen but I find it strange that so many people, including young children, are convinced that is has happened to them and so many of them share similar details.
The phenomenon is similar to the demon and ghost stories of the past. It's also believed to be influenced by real world technologies and science fiction, before the invention of the plane when there were only airships there were a lot of mystery airships "from other worlds" being reported and then after planes were invented the number of reports of fast moving and "flying saucer" type crafts increased.
I presume most cases are people having really vivid sleep paralysis or severe psychotic episodes or hallucinations.
I'm pretty certain that aliens do exist somewhere out there in the vast expanse of the universe, perhaps in great numbers, but I really don't believe that any have ever visited earth.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Taylor_incident (This article was quite a lot longer when I last read it...there was a suggested explanation that he had seen a mirage of Venus and had an epileptic fit causing him to hallucinate the whole thing)
It's simple math imho, it's pathetically arrogant for us to think that in a universe of this scale that we are the only intelligent life. It might not be life as we expect it or as we view it, but we are such a tiny spec of consciousness in such an enormous ebb of time and space that I can't understand how intelligent people can still believe we are alone.
The flip side of this of course is that the size of the universe makes it highly unlikely that we have or ever will be visited by extraterrestrial life. I sincerely hope that they do though although I doubt it would be on friendly terms.
tldr: I am sure that they are out there, but I don't believe they have or ever will be visiting the third rock from the sun in the SOL system.
