For some reason, I find myself increasingly more angry. I kinda had known that most people are idiots for a long time, but it irritates me more and more every day. I like online discussions mainly because I access to far more idiots than in real life and have a great opportunity to comment on their idiotic opinions. I always tried to restrain myself from openly insulting them, because for some reason, people are not very open to debate when insulted (hypocrites, everywhere), but it really gets harder and harder to control myself and thus nobody listens to me anymore, further increasing my bad mood and rage, kinda self-perpetuating cycle.
The landscape of commonly held opinions that I completely loathe is no so vast that I can pick a fight with virtually anyone, but I never get to cultivate my hate into an argument sophisticated enough to actually convince anyone, because the gamut of bullshit ti fight is just too big to develop any of it into a useful argumentation structure. And people are nowadays so sophisticated in their bullshit that a simple plain-logic rebuttal is met only with a huge palace of finely crafted nonsense that needs to be cleaned step by step.
In short, I feel now I am as worthless as an internet discussionist can be. But I love to argue! What do I do?

Take a break from the Internet, read a book, go camping, meditate, that is what I would suggest. If you love to argue go to a university and find a debating club to get that itch out.

either this is some sort of satire or it's pretty sad

i spend a lot of time outdoors (much more than i should, if you ask my boss ), but it doesn't really help with this. it's fantastic for many reasons, and i love it, but it gives you a lot of time to just think a i often end up using that for imaginary arguments in my head. this weekend i go skiing with some freeriding, maybe the looming threat of death brings me to different thoughts.
debate clubs are just gross, these are the people i have the bloodiest beefs with usually.
no satire, maybe a little to much expression for an issue that's not the most pressing one in my life right now.

Sometimes you're just in too deep. Take a step back, contemplate a bit, have a beer, go for a run. Do something that gets you off raging.

take up a martial art, hitting people with sticks has helped me a great deal

ur not really pissed, ur just an attention whore that gets ignored and that makes u cry. if u keep that insulting people to get into arguments shit up (at least in real life) ur gonna get ur face smashed eventually and hopefully learn some common sense the hard way.

math dude, no way to argue with a mathematical proof, just plain, soothing truth

Well tbh, from the description of your actions you have written here it seems that you are just bad at persuasion, so you should practice that if you want to argue and prove some points. To make people think and make some impact on them you need to prepare them in a sophisticated matter. If you know how brain evolved and therefore works you should be aware of cognitive processes that are responsible for making judgement. Think of persuasion as foreplay and your arguments just as penetration during sex. You can hardly have good sex life with just penetration, at best it can be very boring and plain.
If you don't want to do it then it means you don't like discussions, you just want to insult people or prove your self-perceived superiority. Now, most people think they are superior, especially in comparison to the anonymous people over internet, so your frustration may come out of fact that you argue too much with people like you - that just want to insult and consider others idiots.
|
I think the first thing you should explore is why you love to argue. What do you gain from it? Why do you feel the need to convince others that you are right?
|
Lose the opinion that your opinions are right and theirs are wrong. You'll feel much better then, and won't feel the need to prove to ... actually nobody relevant, that you're right.

Some interesting responses, thanks guys!
Particularly the part about (legally) hitting people with a stick, was thinking about it already for some time ...

There's not a single person in the world who thinks this. Everybody thinks that they are right and people who disagree are wrong. It's dishonest to suggest otherwise. Never trust anyone who tells you this.

You remind me a lot of what I was like in high school. I know that you are comfortable immersed in this mental framework but it can actually really completely ruin your life. If you ever feel motivation to try something new PM me.
