So other than the occasional Korean variety show, I don't watch other TV shows, be it any sort of genre.

I've watched Breaking Bad and Walking Dead.

Lately, though, I've sort of been deviating away from the usual and watching some anime. Now, at first, I never thought anime was something that would appeal to me. I understood it could fulfill a niche that TV shows can't really fill in that it can surpass human limitations, like mecha robots fighting one another, shooting out blood, or being able to jump 50 feet in the air and landing on the ground with no physical injuries that "real-life" TV shows might have a hard time actually recreating AND making it seem realistic.

The only anime I've ever watched before 2014 was Great Teacher Onizuka. It was awesome. It was recommended by the lovely people of the Anime Discussion thread/IRC chat and it was mind-blowing. I never realized animated cartoons could be so addicting and just... So amazing. It not only offered comedy, but also in a way, "life lessons" and the type of admiration that a viewer would get of the characters in the show, something that TV show producers likely aim for with all of their products.

Lately, I've been watching Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, and Deadman Wonderland. I believe these are all some of the more "famous" animes, since they were recommended to me, and though I haven't finished/caught up to the end just yet for any of them, I can't stop watching and it's pretty mind-blowing. I never realized I could be so into TV shows, better yet anime, like I have because of these shows. And it sucks since I'm still going to school and work... How am I supposed to balance school and work with the glory of these shows?

With Attack on Titan, I couldn't understand the exact storyline until after reading the manga, but still quite entertaining. I heard Sword Art Online is great at first, but gets boring as it progresses, and I hope that isn't the case with me. Deadman Wonderland is pretty cool, definitely not as typical as GTO, but a cool change of pace that goes with the "superpower" themes.

I'll try and be on the lookout for some other anime recommendations, I still need to get started on shows like Honey and Clover, School Rumble, Code Geass, and Legend of Korra. I'll never watch One Piece.

Thanks for reading.

School and work go first. Always.
I don't have any practical tips however >.>

Not trying to worsen your addiction () , but i'd recommend mushishi and texhnolyze. They're both quite different from what you've listed, and i think they're both really good. And if you really want to get fired up for something, watch some hajime no ippo episodes, works like a charm

GTO is indeed awesome!

Why not read One Piece instead?

Watch Gundam SEED.

You should read Gantz.

Do yourself a favour and don't watch the second half of the first Sword Art Online unless you are into clichy storylines with a creepy / pervy touch to it.

GTO was hilarious. DNH got me to watch that one.

I'd recommend Death Note - it's a lot like Code Geass in that the main character is brilliant and constantly finding ways to get out of tough situations, and there's supernatural abilities similar to Lelouch's. Instead of a mecha/action anime it's more of a dark drama. The beginning is great, so you can probably tell if you'll like it after one or two episodes.

Another really good one is Steins;Gate. It starts out slow, and the characters are awkward at first, but it turned out to be my favorite anime so far.

You should come back to BW. I miss your stream.

Haha agreed. That show turns to shit pretty fast... was really disappointing. And the second season... my god it got even worse.

I was super pissed when the first half ended in the first place..then the second half was just...yeah. Still think it could be a great show if they just expanded on the original concept more >.>

Great to see you enjoying anime. I don't watch any TV shows currently and anime is the only thing I watch. There's a lot of fun anime out there so long as you don't focus on every little thing that is a bit odd etc... As mentioned, SAO's first part is really good and fun, second part of it needs improvement. Felt too short, not enough explored and still left many questions. It also wasn't as interesting as the first one. Either way, SAOII is airing atm so get to finishing SAO so that you can watch SAOII and discuss it lol.

As for balance, work and school should always come first then you can probably watch anime during the times you aren't studying or doing more important stuff. Watching anime as they air is the best thing though. You can also try marathooning some of the shorter anime, the one cour 12 episode ones in a couple of hours. It's quite the experience

GTO is indeed awesome!

Hajime no Ippo looks sweet! Especially if it's heavily centered around boxing, I'd be super interested.

Oh no... I finished the first half of SAO last night. Apparently, it's going to be going into a fairy concept? Also, I'll definitely be looking forward for Death Note. I think I know of an L character, but not much else.

I want anime that's starts interesting and ends interesting, like stinkin' GTO. Gimme more of those type of animes. But I'll definitely start on watching stuff like Gantz, Welcome to the NHK, Death Note, and Hajime no Ippo later on in life too.

I know a ton of people who've already watched around a hundred anime shows already, how do they do it in a short amount of time while fulfilling other obligations...?

It's pretty much only boxing. I don't really know much about boxing though, so I don't know how much sense everything makes. It seems pretty sensible, from a nitwit point of view.

It's actually really easy. You can knock out almost any anime in a couple days to a week if you just don't sleep at all. That's how I add to my anime list, anyway.

One exception is One Piece, which I've been working on for months, and I'm only on episode 605! (It's really not bad if you like the characters btw - I just skip through all the filler and long pauses between scenes.) What am I doing with my life? lol

If you like reading and have enjoyed animes you should really try reading mangas. You have to understand that 99% of the best animes are just TV adaptation of great mangas and are, most of the time, way better when read. GTO is a good example, the manga is much better.

If there's one anime you must watch (throwing dozens of names at your face makes no sense - you won't have time to watch them all) it is certainly death note. As for mangas I would recommend Hunter X Hunter and Slam Dunk.

Also don't watch mushishi unless you want to sleep in front of your TV.
