WCG = cyber sports olympiad, with all kinds of games being represented, and with players from all continents and all kinds of countries competing for the world title... being there and winning such title in its glory days cannot be compared with winning a world title in just your own specific esport nowadays, because of the whole olympic spirit it had. that's really going to be missed.

That's what I always loved about it, sadly I wasn't as aware of places like TL and stuff back in the day, but WCG was a big thing even as a casual guy.

I don't know, there's nothing that's really got the vibe that it had, and I don't think there ever will be again. It's a shame really that it's gone the way it has.

I echo the sentiment earlier that this generation of E-sports fans don't really 'get it', or what it meant. Indeed, frankly the current generation are a bunch of spoiled fucks Relying on things like LR threads in forums, or indeed the fabled battle report of a talented writer telling the story of a match in a way that really added something. Now everything is streamed 24/7 and people are really just forgetting how cool it is that the industry exists at all

WCG is where I got my first and only win against a progamer too, a walk over versus incontrol, sad to see them close shop though. I thought most of the money came from samsung? I guess Samsung can't be asked to part with all that "filthy" android money they've been making haha.(this isn't a slight against Samsung phones, I <3 them and if their tvs ever came down a little bit I'd buy them too instead of LG since LG ditched IM).
Limited Edition, lets do some simple addition, $50 for a T-Shirt is just some ignorant bitch shit.

WCG 2007 was where I first got to translate for Korean players thanks to mnm introducing me to TL. It was a different time and place for E-Sports, that's for sure. I'm sad to see it go too, and I am immensely thankful that I got to be a part of the very last one.

Had some great memories from WCG. Played in Aus national final in 03 and 04. 04 in particular was a really cool tournament. The best part was getting to meet the guys you played with online so much. We were all epic nerds but shared a common goal. It was a lot of fun.

Not unsurprising what has happened. WCG used to the the tournament but has become pretty low rent in recent times.

Played WCG Nordic qualifiers in like 2004 for BW, was so fun spending all those months leading up to it making specific builds for each map. Had this really crazy PvZ build for korhal with proxy gate and proxy forge blocking both entrances, and then when I actually did it vs Trek I managed to trap my own zealot I think (I thiiiink thats what I did, cant remember exactly just remember it was a very big fuck up :D)

Yeah, my gateway was in a different spot tho.. Cant remember if it got stuck or if I forgot to build it or something equally dumb haha

It was like this really bizarre build where I proxied a gateway at his front choke, then proxied a forge at the backdoor (which blocked lings)

Ah WCG!

Remember playin the WC3 qualies in 2004.

Won my first match against some kid. But then got tower rushed undead Vs undead... brother of the guy who went on to represent!

Was nice... Also remember the UT days of WCG... Really makes me wanna play some UT again - Morpheus and Hyperblast ..best maps ever!!

Man I still remember when I first got into following the competitive BW scene. WCG was huge and it was so fun to see players from around the world compete. I remember being excited when FroZ! beat Boxer twice then being sad/mad when Boxer beat Yellow in the finals (because of that stupid map hall of Valhalla being used TWICE). It really was a cool concept.
