WCG = cyber sports olympiad, with all kinds of games being represented, and with players from all continents and all kinds of countries competing for the world title... being there and winning such title in its glory days cannot be compared with winning a world title in just your own specific esport nowadays, because of the whole olympic spirit it had. that's really going to be missed.

That's what I always loved about it, sadly I wasn't as aware of places like TL and stuff back in the day, but WCG was a big thing even as a casual guy. I don't know, there's nothing that's really got the vibe that it had, and I don't think there ever will be again. It's a shame really that it's gone the way it has. I echo the sentiment earlier that this generation of E-sports fans don't really 'get it', or what it meant. Indeed, frankly the current generation are a bunch of spoiled fucks Relying on things like LR threads in forums, or indeed the fabled battle report of a talented writer telling the story of a match in a way that really added something. Now everything is streamed 24/7 and people are really just forgetting how cool it is that the industry exists at all

Or well, a man next to the first woman in space, carrying the olympic flag with millions of ears hearing him be introduced as a cybersports champion. WCG. Beyond the game man, beyond the motherfucking game.

Not unsurprising what has happened. WCG used to the the tournament but has become pretty low rent in recent times. Thanks for the good times WCG!

It's too bad that the organization went to total shit and became a huge joke in the later years, they had a neat thing going. The idea of representing your country is a cool angle we don't see enough in these games. Really hope a proper organization starts something similiar up again... Great blog btw. Played WCG Nordic qualifiers in like 2004 for BW, was so fun spending all those months leading up to it making specific builds for each map. Had this really crazy PvZ build for korhal with proxy gate and proxy forge blocking both entrances, and then when I actually did it vs Trek I managed to trap my own zealot I think (I thiiiink thats what I did, cant remember exactly just remember it was a very big fuck up :D)

Great times. | ||

Yeah, my gateway was in a different spot tho.. Cant remember if it got stuck or if I forgot to build it or something equally dumb haha It was like this really bizarre build where I proxied a gateway at his front choke, then proxied a forge at the backdoor (which blocked lings) 8D
