When I was younger I remember t-shirts (as well as other types of shirts) had a tag located inside the shirt just below the collar in the back (behind your neck). It was kind of annoying and itchy. I remember a commercial with Jackie Chan talking about how their shirts no longer had those tags! Oh, here it is in awful quality, but you get the idea.

Recently I notice similar tags (washing instructions etc) located inside the shirt near the bottom on the left side. I also find this really god damned annoying. As I move around it scrapes my left side. My neck doesn't have a problem anymore, but I think this is just as bad. I have tried cutting them off but it's really hard to cut it in such a way so there isn't some sharp artifact sticking out or a hole left in the fabric.

Do you have the same problem? Have you been able to buy shirts that don't have annoying tags? Have you found a good way to remove them to improve comfort without ruining the shirt?

Oh yeah I hate those tags as well. They are usually stitched on independently so I just rip them off by hand and then pull out the few threads that are remaining. You can also use a stitch ripper for a cleaner removal.

Where I live there still are neck tags like those, as well as left side ones. I don't mind them, usually, but some are particularly annoying and I just cut them down with a pair of scissors, making sure to get it all out so that the remaining bit doesn't scratch.

When i was 5 (I'm 16 now) i found those tags really itchy so my mom got me a nice new shirt that was about $40 USD and i tried to cut the tag myself but taking a pair of scissors and reaching behind me and just snipping. I ended up cutting a hole in the shirt and my mom was really mad. Ever since then I have stopped cutting neck tags almost entirely, but I have noticed that in the past 5 years or so they are towards the side. I agree they are annoying as hell, so I usually cut them as low as I can and it's usually not an issue. It also depends on the type of shirt you are talking about. Most cotton type t-shirts have either one of those neck tags you just cut or they are printed into the shirt so that's not really an issue, but button down shirts usually have those really annoying side tags so if they have the important laundering information on them, I usually just wear an undershirt as much as possible and that solves the problem. The struggle is real.

Most of my shirts have the tag on the side, but I've never experienced any discomfort due to it being there. If you do decide to cut it out though make sure make sure to get rid of it completely (or rip it out) since I find it usually leaves a rough edge which is much worse.

Get one of these. It's called a seam ripper. It's specifically designed to remove stitchwork. Should work great for tags.

I always needed the neck tags to tell me which was the back of the shirt when I was younger. (Don't tell anyone, but I sometimes still need them)

I have one shirt where the tag on the collar always flips out. It's never been itchy or anything, it's just awkward when the tag is sticking out. So what I did was put double-sided sticky tape on the back of the tag to stick it to the shirt.

After you wear or wash it a couple of times the tag smooths out. I never had an issue with tags except for the occasional bent one that would stick up or into you in a weird way. Try the seam ripper
