LOL I spelled live, if someone could change that to life please LOLOL.

So my life is finally going to take a big change and it's hard to believe.

For starters I need to go into what I have been doing the past 5 years of my life that has been pretty much the same (going into my junior/11nth year of high school).

I got my first job at edwards or regal entertainment. It's a pretty crappy job, place doesn't really care about it's employees but it was my first job and it is a great job when going through high school. You went to school during the week and worked over the weekends, it sucked, but it worked really well for school.

So the last 5 years has been school, work, free time (mainly starcraft and hanging out with friends). I would normally work 2-3 days a week (20 hours a week average) and have 4 days off in a row was the normal work routine. Sometimes you would work 40 hours, next could be 10, it really depends on the movies coming out that week and if it's holiday, christmas break, summer vacation, etc.

The thing that sucked most about this though was I could never plan anything, ever. You get your work schedule and it's all by week, so I know what I work sunday - thursday then I don't know what I work after that until the new schedule came out. This made playing in sc2 tournaments near impossible for me or planning anything with friends for more then a week notice.

Now I just finished 2 years of college and am done. I will say those 2 years were well worth the money I put into it though. After 2 months of being done I am finally getting a job where I will work a consistent schedule, is full time and I make a lot more then I did at the theater. For those wondering after 5 years of working there I make 7.77. 52 cents above minimum wage. I have gotten "raises" at this job that were 2 cents (no I am not kidding that was my raise once).

Now I have a job coming up that I have 100% for sure where I will be making 12-14 dollars an hour and I have a potential job (haven't heard back from this one yet, should next week) that if I get I will be making 18$ an hour.

I will say this is really weird for me to think that soon my 4 days of free time are going to be over. I will be having a normal work schedule, not as much free time as I do now, but I am excited for it because I can finally move out of my parents house, I will finally make decent money and most important of all I can finally get a better internet connection!

I can't see myself quitting sc2 and unless this job really takes it out of me, I plan on still doing my usual play sessions and I should finally be able to start playing in tournaments that are over the weekend which is nice. I can finally plan things around work instead of saying "I have to wait until tuesday before I can let you know if I can do this on that day at that time".

For those curious these jobs are IT jobs (information technology) doing computer stuff. I am normally one who hates change, but I am really looking forward to this one.

So, if I understand this correctly, you're leaving college without a degree for a job?
That's the 2nd time in a week I've seen someone sig a quote from this GD and I have never witnessed a sig quote happen in my TL history ever before. -Najda

I'm glad I don't work in the US. I have a reasonably low paying job in terms of "proper" work. I.e not high school/college student getting rorted. I get $20 an hour plue 15% penalty loading because I start work at 5.30am.

Well I finished all my IT courses and I got a lot of certificates (in IT certificates are pretty important, most jobs I see require some sort of certificate or another).

Also as a note, even if I went and got a 4 year degree I would be making no more then what I will be getting now. For example the job I don't know if I got yet, requires a bachelors or certificates (like security + ) or experience.

Well what do you work? There are jobs where you don't need a degree and can make that much (I believe construction workers can make that much or more). But for what I want to do they require certificates or a degree.

I'm a mailman, no degree or anything required. Construction workers would probably make slightly more here. Not 100% sure though.

Congrats man. All the good feels when you start making a livable wage. Best of luck. I'm just getting started with my career too and it's a great feeling.

I recommend starting to pick up programming, too. Lots of extra money to be made with that skill in your pocket

Good stuff man. I might be undergoing a similar situation, but the biggest difference is that I'd have 5-6 years in age on ya lol. Starting one's career can be so exciting no matter what!

Wow dude! Congrats! So this is what you were talking about.

Can't wait for that better internet connection (tee hee). I wish you great success!

5-6 years on me isn't to bad though. Would suck if you were 20-30 years ahead of me though and just starting your career hehe .

if there was every a field to not complete a degree in, it is probably computers. But i would still recommend doing online courses to finish the degree. Won't matter now but later on it could be the difference between a high tier job and... well the same job you have now with a bit more pay. Either way, best of luck!

Sounds like a great change, good luck. I'm 23 and hopefully going through a similar stage where I have finally figured out what I want to do in life (web programming) and should be making enough money to move out in the near future.
I can only play starcraft when I am shit canned. IPXZERG is a god.
