A lot of concerns have been raised in other threads. I just wanted to give my personal view of last night. In a semi-coherent rage form..
Why was the bracket designed to last 10+ hours? There was 3 hours between the first and 2nd round. THREE HOURS. Many of the other rounds had a whole hour and a half designated when the sets were done in 30 minutes. Myself, the koreans and everyone else playing from the other side of the world had to get stay up until 3am to play. Our first round opponents were all sub-diamond so it was over quick. We then proceeded to play our r2 opponents. When we tried to report r2 it wouldn't accept the replays because they were played at the wrong time. From here it was on average a 2 hour wait to get an admin to manually input the result before we could continue in the bracket.
Now I understand the bracket should be catered to the American timezone. But wtf is with such massive breaks between games and a system which inhibits the bracket moving quickly? Is it just trying to waste peoples time and exhaust us players from the other side of the world??
Also on the note of chinese players not being allowed there were a lot of Australians who stayed up till 4am to recieve confirmation they didnt get put in the bracket. Some may have signed up too late due to being interstate at ACL LAN but 3 of these guys are top 50 GM on the NA ladder and they stay up till 4am to find out "lol nah u cant play".
I can understand the logistical nightmare it takes to run an event like this at short notice.
I can NOT UNDERSTAND the fact that MLG have had many of these similar problems (nonresponsive admins, shit website/ reporting system, failure to DQ cheaters and people who falsely report until the bracket is compromised) BEFORE. These problems have happened in so many MLG qualifiers before and they never fix it. I can't understand why they can't get competent volunteers and a decent website to help them out.
My friend and progamer Tgun chose not to play specifically because he expected this sort of crap running of tournaments. Here are some quotes from his twitter:
"@NvRossi I had an e-mail guaranteeing me a spot in the qualifiers. Still not worth it, knowing how MLG runs online qualifiers."
"@NvRossi I didn't exactly want to spend four hours per round arguing with admins more than playing SC2.."
"The amount of people who expected this qualifier to not be a joke is astounding."

So to round off the story I'd like to say that it got to 9.30am, 7.30 korean time, where I was facing Apocalypse in winners r5 and we'd both had no sleep. We talked about how silly MLG was and the fact that we'd mostly played amateur players so far and continued to play an extremely messy and somewhat sloppy series on both sides. He won and clearly was the better player in the games. My question though, is why the fuck couldn't we play our games 5 hours earlier? It felt more like a night of endurance watching tv shows and trying to figure out how to contact admins/report results than a tournament. Really retarded experience so far.
Anyway, got losers bracket match most likely vs Heart tomorrow at 5am, hopefully I can slay a few Koreans. Hope MLG fix their shit!

Cannot be explained with anything but incompetence. Not even being inexperienced would lead to such failure. Couldn't agree more.

Not that it fixes anything but I think I can actually explain what happened to leave a 3 hr gap between the first and second round. The original bracket times were all spaced out 1.5 hours apart except for the first 3 rounds. For some reason the time difference between the first and second rounds was 3 hours like you stated and the time between rounds 2 and 3 was originally 30 min which makes no sense since all rounds were bo3. I think someone typoed and somehow it got missed (like many many other things in this qualifier as stated in your post) and then they tried to fix for it by switching several rounds to 1 hour apart to make up the lost time. At least that's the only plausible thing I can come up with even though it's pretty stupid itself. It's unbelievable how many problems have happened with this WCS qualifier. Sorry it sucked so bad for you. Good luck today! Looks like you have a doable bracket compared to some of the others so you definitely have a shot! Hope it goes a little better :/

What has happened was unfortunate, but you gotta make the best of what you've got. Get some sleep and good luck with the loser's bracket! Perhaps bring a friend who knows their way around over and have that person argue wiht admins and schedule for you so you can solely focus on your game.

lol, and i thought ESL's admins were bad. seems like they are the best you can get out there lol

Sorry to say it, but if this tournament starts 1pm Aussie time, you wouldn't be writing this blog....It's an NA tournament at NA times. Thats all that matters, no NA people will complain. Sorry but i have no sympathy for SEA/Koreans >.<
The only people you should be complaining to is Blizzard for not making SEA qualifiers at SEA times (imo)

I've played MLG qualifiers that started at 10am my time. They had similar problems. I still made posts complaining.
So in summary. No.

Yes but this isn't MLG qualifiers is it. This is 1 BIG qualifier to get into WCS NA. Which blizzard said anyone can enter cuz they stupid. IMO the only way for it to be fixed is there to be SEA Qualifier - China Qualifier - Korea Qualifier - EU Qualifier - NA Qualifier. Then you wont have to play at silly times.

I think he's complaining more about how the had specific start times for each round making the bracket 10+ hours long instead of as fast as possible rather than the time the bracket was started. Why not just let people play when their next opponent is ready? Why drag the tournament out as long as possible? It's not like it would make it harder for them to find games. They were using 1 stream to broadcast with a shitload of games available.

He's saying why should he have to wait 2 hrs for each round. sure he says it sucks for people in his region of the world but the main point is how poorly designed the bracket schedule is.

MLG has no experience in such endevours. This system was simply bad, you don't fix hours for 512 bracket rofl.
Ah and add in the fact that some silver scrubs got into the tournament instead of WCS China Champion.

did you enjoy how anyone on a famous NA or KR team was guaranteed a spot regardless of sign up time ^_^?

Why is the tournament organized for 10 hour days? I don't know, so let's do some math. From what I can gather, there seems to be 8 rounds needed to determine a winner. Let's say they need to allot 1.5 hours for a long three game set, and another half hour per round to handle bathroom breaks, administration, etc. That puts us at a generous 16 hours needed, which could easily be handled in a weekend with 8 hour days. So in summary, there's no reason it should take so long.
