So I was wondering:

If you all had the chance to work to become professional at either League of Legends or SC2, which would you choose? Assume you are say around Diamond league in SC2 and the equivalent of that in League of Legends.

Note the issue is not just about skill, but practicality of being able to reach the top.

You may also leave reasoning in the replies below.

Poll: Which game would you pursue?

Starcraft 2 (43)

67%

League of Legends (21)

33%

64 total votes

Your vote: Which game would you pursue?

(Vote): Starcraft 2
(Vote): League of Legends

edit: ok you guys seem to think this is asking which one I should go pro in, that IS NOT the question. It is asking which one YOU would.

and clearly this is assuming you are passionate enough about the game to pursue being a pro gamer

if you're around diamond league level (sc2 wise) i'd say that the chance of being pro are near 0 in both cases.

one does not become professional because of practicality, but because of intense love for the game.]

if progamers were practical there would be none

Dota2.

Although I voted SC2 over league because SC2 is a better option than league not close.

And also this.

In case you're wondering, my answer to your question would be -neither- (and honestly I think it would be a good idea to include it in your poll).

I mean let's be honest here, progamer pay is kinda shit if you're not a top dog either overall or at least in your own country's scene. And to pursue the path of a progamer in a game that you don't enjoy playing, where the pay is bad unless you make it big and where there's zero chances for you to make it big, judging from the fact that you couldn't become AT LEAST mid-high masters playing part time... yeah lol. Nope.

If you are diamond league, you have no chance of making it professional or even semi-professional in either scene. I voted LoL because it's actually fairly easy to be locally competitive. You don't need a great degree of skill or practice to go win local tournaments and get RP prizes and small cash prizes. No matter where you are, there will always be top masters or gm sc2 players winning all the local sc2 tournaments, so there's little chance there.

You forget that his is an Starcraft forums. There will be bias.

Try do this poll at a leagues forum. Funny though, I was just thinking about Destiny's transition a minute ago, but thats for another post.

Didn't he lose a ton of his viewership doing that? Either way, his league ELO is *awful* too after months and months of trying right?

The funny part is that league is hilariously easy to master (a HoN pro tried it and was #1 ELO in LoL after less than a month rofl).

Admittedly though, League is where the money is right now. Wasn't that the situation SC2 was in a year or 2 ago? I'm not sure that LoL has much longevity to it.

Neither. Sadly progaming is just not viable as a career, at least in my situation. Even if I were to become one of the world's greatest players (MVP-level), it means that I get to make solid 6-figure incomes for a single year, maybe 2 years if I'm lucky and consistent. What happens afterwards? With a solid undergraduate degree and a graduate degree, I can be making circa 6 figures if not more each and every year.

Furthermore, progaming is a pretty tough job, basically with little social life and free time, and lots of grinding. Not an ideal work environment, at least for me. Sure, travelling is nice, and being a niche celebrity can be fun, but it is very hard to transition into a post-gaming life comfortably sometimes. Education is delayed, my career is delayed, etc.

Progaming is a dream to me. I would love to become a champion, to stand in front of a roaring crowd, to hold that trophy up high. But it is only a dream

I'm not really sure what you are looking to get out of this thread to be honest. If you're assuming we would be going pro and asking in a primarily SC2 based forum site which game it would be for I think you can already predict the answer.

But then you write this:
edit: ok you guys seem to think this is asking which one I should go pro in, that IS NOT the question. It is asking which one YOU would.

when we all know you are indirectly asking for feedback on your situation as you compare the exact same games and skill level, but you don't want to admit it (as per your last blog). So yeah you basically are asking us which one you should go pro in. I don't see how you could anticipate it as anything else. And you know the results are going to be SC2 biased.

I don't think i would ever go pro. I think at that point sc2 might stop becoming fun when your forced to play 8 hours a day.

funny how dota2 "only" players got butt hurt that dota2 wasnt on the pool, well i would go for league of legens just because its more fun to me since its team vs solo play on sc2 ^^, also dont think i could make it on sc2 since the mechanical skill way to high for me i think
