This is actually a fairly clever point about popeye the sailor and American ideology, but I didn't feel like trying to explain all academic-like so I wrote a poem instead in order to try to provoke people into thinking about something.
I read a study earlier that said spinach only contains 13% essence of nature. That's a much more believable figure in my opinion. However the truth is, we don't know how much essence of nature is in spinach. it's really hard to isolate. It keeps squirming into experimental error, contaminating placebos and such. But if we can manage to study it or isolate it properly, I think essence of nature will revolutionize modern medicine.
This was either an enormous mindfuck, or I think I just punked by symbolism in a children's show. EDIT: OHHH This is where Hegellian dialectic comes from isn't it .
They just wanted kids to eat spinach because it's good for you. They didn't put it in a can for symbolism, they did it because they didn't have nice refrigerated transportation from Argentina to bring farm-crisp spinach to your table in January. You had canned spinach because that's what would last through winter. No one ate that stuff because of the taste.
