Fire Emblem is a franchise that has a special place in my heart. It essentially got me back to playing tactical RPGs and then proceeded to get me totally hooked on the genre. I only got a chance to play the GBA titles of the series (Fire Emblem & Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones), so it's been quite a while since I got my hands on a new Fire Emblem game.

That is why I'm pretty excited about Fire Emblem: Awakening on the Nintendo 3DS. It's going to be the first time in quite a while where I can get my hands on a new entry in the franchise. So here are the latest details on the game:

- This is the first portable entry to have fully 3D character models and environments.
- The game marks the first time a western released Fire Emblem game includes the ability to create your own characters.
- The world map system from Sacred Stones and Gaiden makes a return in this entry.
- There will be multiplayer connectivity, I think they mentioned drop-in drop-out multiplayer as well.

The game will also support some form of DLC. I don't really like DLC here especially when it comes to a game that is supposed to have a strong single-player component. But ehm, let's see what happens.

The game is already in Japan but is expected to hit North American and European markets by early 2013.

I'm a huge fan of the Fire Emblem series. I've played 6,7,8,9,10, and 12. However, I think some of the character design for Awakening is utterly atrocious, especially for the DLC characters that I have a stronger attachment to. It's like they totally ignored the character's original personalities and stories and just got some porn artists to make the characters look like total moe-blobs. I'm sure the gameplay will be great, and an improvement over the previous games, but the art is just...ick.

I've only played Fire Emblem 6,7 and 8 on Gameboy Advance, but holy hell did this series really deliver. One of my most favorite games ever. Too bad I don't have a DS

A giant fan of Fire Emblem, got hooked with the first GBA western release and bought every single western release after. Even bothered with fan translations at times.

This one might convince me to get a 3ds, I'm just such a huge fan of Fire Emblem.

The first one on the GBA is still my favorite. I remember having played the game till the last map, only to discover that my team was far too weak to possibly clear the game (fuck you Marcus).

I played the entire game a 2nd time, ending up with a team that was almost entirely different. Loved every bit of it.

I can't say the story for each of the games has always been the best, some being rather cheesy or forced same-old setup, but I can still remember when Eliwood strikes down the dragon and it turns out to be dancer girl.

I liked every fire emblem game, but I didn't like the animal-class for the Cube/Wii.

My favorite class is probably the Assassin when they still had that awesome sprite animation, and otherwise its the General.

Since I'm a fan of T-RPGs I played this series as well but only 7 and 8 so far. There are other games with a higher priority at the moment + I barely have any time these days.
Didn't check the design but if it is like Funnytoss says, it's gonna be awful. I already can't stand moe-blobs in anime, so yeah...

I know some people prefer completely written versions of the topics I cover but Youtube is something I'm currently exploring at the moment and I enjoy talking to the camera. There are somethings like reviews however which I feel need to be completely written out to fully express my opinions.

Either ways, I'm trying to put a lengthy enough written post every time I post a blog so that people who don't want to watch can join in on the discussion. But I can't just scrap what I want to do based of preferences. Hope you understand that

As for the character designs, I do very much prefer the ones from previous games especially Sacred Stones. These ones don't look as good, some of are pretty weird as well.

First fire emblem released in the west is hands-down the best imho.

Since then, some things I didn't really like:
Sacred stones: brought infinite leveling into the game (I mean you could abuse arena but it was much harder)
Gamecube game: didn't really like the laguz, but Ike was an army-anihilating badass so whatever. Bexp made leveling less strategic since you could just pump your team full of levels if you screwed up.
Wii game: battle saves... why?, and really didn't like pacing of the story but won't discuss that too much. Also, Dawn Brigade hate.
Shadow dragon: Let's make them kill off all but 15 characters to see the gaiden chapters. That's definitely a good idea.... *facepalm*

What I've seen is that as time progresses fire emblem is being made "more accessible" by dumbing it down bit by bit. I would really like to see another fire emblem of the style of the first one. Reclassing is nice, but for the most part many of the changes that have been made over time I'm not too crazy about.
