Today I saw a spotlighted article about Ret quitting smoking. He challenged other TL community members to join him. I'm jumping in with him. I've been smoking for 21 years, a pack a day for 15 of that. I also go out to the bars and drink a lot. I'm going to quit smoking cold turkey with Ret and cut back on the drinking. I have no idea what to expect. Ideally, this will leave me healthier, and with a lot more time for more important things in my life, like my GF, my career pursuits, and Starcraft.

I'm not going to make a big deal out of this. I'll post just a few lines each day here to explain how it's going and what it's like. Wish me luck! And thanks Ret for the motivation. Here's his post:

I think I'll follow Ret's lead as well with getting my room and workspace cleaned up. Here's what it looks like now. It's been like this for... ever. Probably will take a few days to get straightened out.

No way cold turkey is going to work if you've been a pack a day for 15 years. Goodluck though is going to be a rough road.

I'm glad he's inspired you... but put a little effort into it. What really impressed me with Ret's post was the before/after pictures. He didn't just say "I'm gonna turn some shit around", he actually did it. Cleaning your place up once isn't the final result but it can at least show people you're more serious. I do however hope to see your posts each day! GLGL

It's gonna be a royal pain, but you can do it! Ret is right in saying the first 6 days are going to be hell, but with determination you can quit. Go for it man!

Protip (in case you fail with room cleaning at least):

1. take a picture when you clean your room
2. move some stuff around
3. take another picture
4. repeat step 2
5. repeat step 3
