I keep this log file to review my Starcraft games and confront whatever issue I come across. Only by reflection and analysis will one overcome obstacles. There must always be a momentary pause of contemplation after each encounter. And when defeat occurrs, absorb it somehow to make you stronger.
The first point is not so much as to how the enemy defeated you, but rather how you allowed them to. If you are capable and progressing, blessed with the ability to comprehend the dynamic of whatever happening around you, surely there must either be a mistake, an error of calculation, or a weakness you must rectify. I will begin with specific examples. There are say two situations one may fear. That is being caught off-guard with air-units or Stealth. Both require a typical reaction, and is not something pre-emptively guessed. During engagement, speculation and estimation become necessary. In order to full the void of purpose, we're compelled to prepare against anything that may arise. Passive or static approach, and defensive play, is one method, while the enemy will wear themselves down in their own convulsions, struggling to penetrate your base. But passive play can be a death-wish against the experienced player.
Here we find the genius of speculation. Your movements are based either upon direct observation or an educated guess. And too, your knowledge of the current race is tested, as you implement strategy to react and engage.
There too is the unfortunate moment when the inexperienced, will lose stamina or will-power to continue.. as they're unable to make the 'transition' required to indeed continue. To conlude,
I am speaking of developing that instinctual ability to bring down the enemy with active deliberation and speculation, instead of passive submission or blind tactics. The player must ALWAYS scout and have Map control, and trust their intuition. One has mastered their Race when they can react to all situations.
