EPTthere are somethings in life that need to be shared. For some people, it's knowledge. For others it could be things like humor, entertainment, growth in ones personality, hints and tips on food and many more. Basically, the fun of blogging is being able to share your vision with the whole world (since putting something online makes it available for everyone to see) and findiung out how others feel about whatever it is you blog about. And maybe, just maybe, you might even end up helping people in doing so. That's my reason to start this blog, I need help, visions, opinions and maybe I could even give something back to people just like me.
I guess the best thing to do right now is to tell you guys a bit about myself right? I will try to sketch out my life as it is right now, and how Starcraft is influencing my life. For starters, my name. The day I was born, my father showed me to several people and stated that from that point on, the little boy he was holding shall be know as Thomas de Weerdt.
By know, I'm 21 years old, or actually I will be tomorrow, but who is counting right? I studied Art-School for a couple of years, and decided that this wasn't the way to go. Making that decision actually has a lot to do with SC2, I will explain about that later on. I now study Media and Entertainment Management, which allows me to work closely with people organising tournaments, events and what not.
During my time in the Art Environment, I started working for the company that, if I remember correctly, was once founded by my greatgrandfather. Now, my grandfather and his brothers took over this business and right now, my fathers cousin and his son are in charge. The compagny is one of the kind that involves a lot of letus, and growing the letus in glasshouses. Now, when you work here, it means getting up really early ( 3:00AM or earlier) and making many hours untill the work is done. And don't be mistaken, it is real labor. However, it is a lot of fun when you can actually work with your family. Now the son I just mentioned, from here on known as Marco (Ration) played a lot of games, and one of them was Starcraft 2. During the many hours you work side by side, we talked a lot about games, making me so enthousiastic I decided to buy the mysterious Starcraft game. O my god, what a game. It involves so many things, I couldnt even start to understand is. Lucky for me, I had a veteran by my side, being able to explain a lot to me. Now a days we play together a lot, make some youtube content and we have so much fun in doing so. Does this now sound like I actually know what I'm talking about? Cause it shouldnt. Ladies and gentlemen, I am a Bronze League player.
However, I recently started to get the feeling for playing, and most of all, how to learn. Cause that is the part of Starcraft that gives me so much joy in playing. It's hard to learn, but you can see your improvement. It's measurable. And to improve, I needed to learn how to learn. Now, I first started, thinking I could only learn by watching pro's, copy their builds and execute them. But let's be honoust for a second, that. gets. BORING. You win some, you lose some, but you are just doing things you should do, and that doesn't make it fun for me. By god, I want to be able to feel like it is my own doing when I win. Not someone elses and Im just playing Kakashi 'The copycat Ninja' (for those who don't know this term, you just lost 2 points on your nerdlicensce and should start watching Naruto immediatly!) And then, the man of the match, the hero of starcraft newbies, mister Sean 'Day9' Plott came flying around the internetcorner. And watching one of his latest episodes got me convinced of my ideas. I should not watch mistakes being made and good plans working out, I should experience them myself!
I am adopting a new style of playing in which NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!
It will be experimental (for me) and it should be more fun and it should help me grow personally and ingame! What I will do with this blog, is tell you how I am learning, having fun, winning, losing and what not and I will try to convince you of my philosophy. However, I need help too, because don't get me wrong, getting some help is more than ok! So dear Liquid-community, I beg of you, read one of my stories every now and then, and let me know what YOU think.
This was a very long introduction, but I think it suits the general Idea of blogging. Thank you for reading this kick-off post, and I really hope to get to know you guys and for you to get to know me a bit during all our SC2 Adventures!
