Does anyone dream while still being awake (trying to fall asleep)? This shit happens to me all the time. The other day I was trying to sleep on the floor, and it seemed to me that I was floating in the ocean, and I was thinking shit I gotta lie on the couch, there are sharks in the water. This usually happens when I cant sleep for a long time. Sometimes it worries me. I never use drugs btw.

It might be sort of a beginning to a lucid dream kind of idea, though specifically I think you're having "out-of-body experiences "(google it). I can't really help you with that but that does sound like it sort of sucks

It's possible you are experiencing the onset of hypnagogic imagery which is basically an overlap of dream imagery when you are awake or at least I believe that's the explanation. I wouldn't worry much though, it happens.
Good read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia

@Aerisky lucid dream would only occur if he's asleep or he transitions into one through sleep paralysis. OBEs might or might not be more clear lucid dreams(debatable) but I doubt he's having either LD or OBE based on his description.

Oh I'm really no expert so I defer to your better judgment

Sounds legitimate. I guess try to fix it by improving your sleep hygiene in general so you don't have to lie awake for long periods of time. Perhaps see a doctor if your insomnia gets bad enough ><

lol no worries. Your advice is pretty sound. Getting a sleep schedule in place is the best way to beat insomnia I believe

Guess its sleeping problem. I don't understand why my brain refuses to switch off even if its tired as hell. Then it goes straight to dream mode, like regular mindfucking problems are not enough.

That sounds pretty much like what BigFan said.
You could try avoiding it by just moving your body every 5 mins or so, I guess.
The mind enters that stage when it thinks the body is asleep, which happens when you just don't move for a long time and drift off with your mind.
By the way, lucid dreaming can terribly go wrong, so be a bit careful! People can get really mad when it goes wrong.

I don't know how it's arranged in Singapore concerning medications and apothecaries. But if you can get it, try to get some pills which are made out of Diphenhydramine. It helps with sickness, dizziness and makes you tired also. I use them for sleeping most of the time. If you can get yourself some of these, take half a pill (if the dosage is 50mg, so you take 25mg).
Take one around 30-60min before you go to sleep.

I take them because I have pretty much no sleep hygiene. I'm always tired and sleeping is passing time to me, since I don't feel rested afterwards. Falling asleep also sucks for me since my eyes start twitching really bad at some point and IT HURTS LIKE HELL, so I avoid that with it. It calms me.
It's only a temporary solution until counseling solves that shit for me anyways. XD
Take care.

Oh, edit. Dreaming is processing problems for the mind, so dreaming is good. Though as said.. lucid dreaming can scare the shit out of peeps.

It's an actual disorder. it's called G***Hallucination
--i forgot the letters after the G, but no, it's a real thing, similar to sleep paralysis

Me and my friends tried doing a weird sleeping rotation a year ago or so, where we "forced" each other out of sleep after a thirty minute-shift of sleeping four times every day for our biology experiment (if you want to look it up, search for Dymaxion).

One of the effects observed in two people (of eight participating) was exactly what BigFan mentioned, several forms of hypnogogic behaviour. However, it is really ambiguous and you should try to consult someone. Sleep deprivation and insomnia wears you out like nothing else, especially over a longer period of time (say, a few years).

Only when I haven't slept in two days or so, or when I have just woken up from a dream I can recall clearly and I'm still very sleepy.

Hey! I was an uberman for 9 months! Dymaxion doesn't work. It has never officially been documented to work (too severe).

What is really happening is that REM sleep onset occurs much earlier in the sleep schedule, meaning that you enter deepsleep at a time where stage 1 and 2 are severely compressed. As in 3 to 4 minutes at most. So you begin to "dream" while still awake.

This often leads to sleep paralysis (weird feeling), though as one begins to become more acclimated this tends to stop.

OP, it might just be because you are a light sleeper, or you do not get enough sleep, or several other factors. This most often happens to me now when I wake up in the middle of the night and then go back to bed, or when I repeatedly fall asleep again in the morning after sleeping all night.

The uberman adjustment is too rigid for me, do you have any experience with the everyman?
