If you are like me you have a tendency to clean things up about 10-15+ years later than when you probably should have. Today I was cleaning out my childhood closet. At first I was removing clothing I had worn a few months ago in the cooler weather before I stored it in this closet.

As I dug deeper from right to left, I started to find clothing from a few years ago that had been hastily stashed away. Behind that was clothing I haven't seen since college. What surprised me was when I dug further yet and found some clothing from high school and my childhood. Those breakaway pants I used to wear on gym days, that Australian hat my uncle gave me on a visit when I was in middle school...

When I reached the deepest layers, I encountered my 'box games' from when I was younger. If you had asked me to make a list of the box games in my closet as of yesterday, I would have probably struggled to get more than one or two. I've decided to share which ones they are!

First up:

Creativity for Kids: Create your own Books. I took a quick peek inside since I can barely remember this... and there are art supplies and various pads and the like. Apparently I made a dinosaur using a marker and a couple of small plastic glue-on eyes.... yeah I'm not going to photograph it rofl

Second:

Checkers: Just a typical cheap checker set... I think I'll keep it!

Third:

Tornado Rex: Oh, I have fond memories of this! Rex was a top that gets launched from the peak of the hill, and sends you back to the beginning if he hits your player piece as he slides down the incline! Awesome idea for a game.... I seriously opened it up right now and tried it out again.

Fourth:

Sidewinder: Cool idea for a head to head game... you rock your piece back and forth to get the marbles to go up to the top.... causing them to go to the opponent's side... similar to some custom sc maps the tl community has made/played before.

Fifth:

Pool Table: Mine was actually a little smaller than the one in the picture... just a small toy pool table.

Sixth:

Major League Baseball: Some board game that was basically an excuse to sell a full one-year lineup of baseball cards... which I believe I still have in a card binder in another room. Anyone like baseball cards and want to help me? lol

Seventh:

Backgammon: This one is strange... I've never played backgammon. No idea what's up with it lol.

Conclusion:

I don't think that is all the games I had; just the ones that survived the years. I know I had Life, Monopoly, Crossfire, and a few others. How nostalgic!

Maybe I'll go through the basement one day and make a new list of old things! What games do you have hidden away in a closet or attic? How old are they?

I actually never played board games apart this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mensch_ärgere_dich_nicht and Risk.
My parent's taught me how to play Remi and Bela at a fairly young age and I enjoyed being able to play card games with adults so much, made me feel like I was a grown up^^

Backgammon is pretty fun in the beginning, but once you figured it out it's all about the dice luck :/
Friends of mine tend to find bee/wasp nests, mice or some other shit when going through their attics, so you might want to be careful ^^
How big is that pool table? You said it's smaller than on the picture, but the picture doesnt have any size reference so it doesnt really help. I got on which is about 1,5 foot long ^^ sticks about 1 foot

I found an old Connect Four box in a glitchy corner of my room last week, and had a blast playing it vs. my brother like we used to play when we were younger. I also found an old Poker set with plastic chips that same day, from the days when I would regularly play some friendly poker tournaments with my uncles (as well as BW ). Those were beautiful days and afternoons of my life. I also uncovered my old BBQ griller that is now all rusted in my backyard, reminds me of the summer so much.

It's cool how the deeper you go the farther you are into the past, just like digging from the ground and seeing strata I still play around with most of my old stuff though, like stuffed Pokemon and rubik's cubes and such.

Small. Like the length of a computer keyboard... I'm honestly not sure what the point of the set is!

If you play real backgammon with the doubling cube it makes it more interesting.

Doubling cube is the cube which have sides with the numbers: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64. Its used when playing for money (or points)
If you feel ahead you can "double" and flip the dice to the next number in line. The opponent then have to agree to the double and play on, or forfeit and lose the amount of money/points the dice is doubled to. The hard part is to know when a situation is easy to turn around or hard even if you are behind. Just makes backgammon more interesting as a whole. (Also since its been a while please correct me if the above is 100% correct.)

It's always great fun looking through old stuff. My parents move out of my childhood home a year ago and I went through tons of old stuff. Threw out/gave away 15-20 board games but I kept risk for myself =)

Probably have some fancy name I don't know... But its does really give some playability to backgammon if you play for points.

Can blogs become a time capsule?

Anyway, most if not all of my physical possessions are a maximum of 5 years old. Mom threw most of the old stuff out when we moved 3 years ago

I still have books from my childhood though. Geronimo Stilton and Roald Dahls!
