Summer is standing still on a bed of dry grass and dry leaves and dry eyes. And I, eyes shut against summer sun, sleep in a constancy of orange heat. Forgotten are the cries of winter and difference. In summer, there is nothing to move another to tears or otherwise. So I stand still in a summer with no ending, dazing in a series of days in increasing indifference a world tilting away into a too-long drought A rotting orange.
But it is in this summer still as a fallen dream and on this bed of dry grass and dry leaves Where you rise to stand, demanding "Why are we standing, when it is so still in summer?

Just because summer is still does not mean that we are still asleep when we awake."
But I wake and I look and I discover that the world is still standing (then I say to myself, in slow understanding) Even though I and others fall, "Summer is standing, still."
Meant to write a blog about summer doldrums and it came out in free verse instead.
Well done sir, but i'd rather not be reminded of the blazing summer heat. Hmm I wish there was a snapping fingers emoticon, because clapping just doesn't feel appropriate.

Come spring, when all is blossom'd in gardens of violets and rosales. When the pale is lifted from the land, and all stands drenched in sun, I will write your verse as mine, and claim the summer's fruits as mine, and sing what will be mine.
Forgo your cares for now. Sleep amid the rays and citrus blaze of summer's lengthened days.

Btw hazelynut, I think your poem has real sparks of originality. I liked the synesthesia: the association between summer and the colour orange. It's a common union perhaps, but I liked how you ambivalently you treat it. Orange is at once the colour of the sun in full force, and also the colour of overripe fruit. A life lived in decadent abandon, perhaps.
