Hello, again! I'm 25 and i have some troubles in my life finding myself and some other stuff.
I played BW for about 8 years and SC2 since beta. I watch Starcraft leagues much and Starcraft became a huge part of my life. And i have no regrets, it's cool. I think Starcraft will follow me whole my life.
But a week ago i suddenly stopped playing. I deleted all the games from my PC (mostly Blizzard games) including Diablo3, BW, WC3 and SC2 itself.
I spent a week and i realized that i dont need these games at all. All i need is watch some leagues sometimes. And it seems strange. Of course i want to play HotS and other new Blizzard games but now i'm empty for the games.
I just understand that they do nothing for my life and give so little fun to spend my time on it.
Patch 1.5 is out and i'm like "Hm, ok! It's interesting but not so large. I will wait for HotS anyway."

So, the question is. Is it a right decision to stop playing even if you spent about 10 years on this game but you want to achieve something more in this life?

It's your choice, looking for agreement on a forum is going to solve nothing. If you decided to stop because you want to stop and go do something, then you should know it's the right choice.

For me? I'll play video games for as long as I enjoy them, I might get angry and frustrated but such is the nature of a PvP game where you can't control all the aspects but while there is a fun factor I'll continue to play until I physically can't

I don't get why you'd uninstall those games O.o I still come back to WC3 just to play a couple random 4v4s and have loads of fun. Why not instead of being so black and white, use games as a light filler between the important stuff like school, romance, intellectual pursuits, etc...and maybe in those subjects you'll find something that consumes you enough that you don't need games for fun or whatever you needed them for originally.

Question is, if you stopped because it's not fun and you have other things to do, what's the point of questioning it? Playing a game is for entertainment, it's a hobby. If you have hobbies you prefer, why would you ever play games? Why would you ever force yourself to play games?

Either you enjoy spending time with it, or you don't. You shouldn't force yourself to play, just like you shouldn't force yourself not to play.

I dont see any reason playing them when you dont have fun. Were you addicted? When yes, then quit gaming.

I think its a good decision if you had a lot of trouble controlling your impulses to play those games, and I know people do. If it actually was starting to get in the way of meaningful progress in other areas that's definitely a good idea. You can always go back to it later and try to balance it a bit better with other things.

Yea, it's something like that. I'm that person who focuses on something and when i focus on it i cant do other things.
And yeah, i can return to it anytime i want.
So, thanks to you!

Well honestly I don't think your choice of stopping to game depends necessarily on the fact that you've been gaming for awhile... So voted yes. My comparison would be: if you've been eating fast-food for 10 years, it doesn't mean that you can't stop strictly because of the fact that you've been eating fast good for 10 years ( I don't know if that makes sense but you get my point ). In my opinion I think that the decision you made is great, I mean gaming isn't a very healthy way of living, and if you find a lack of stimulation when playing, then by all means stop for now. Nothing wrong with that!

The reason we play games is to have fun. Keep that idea in mind. When it gets in the way of important life things then something is wrong.

I have been gaming all of my life and I am at the same age of you at 25 years old . For me it's time to learn and grow up and be some one . Just realized that there is many things out there in the world you can pick up as a hobby besides just playing games . Learning digital systems in class taught me a little about electronics and have inspired me to make future projects just with what resources I have in hand .

It's been a while since I have been excited about studying for a long time and I am enjoying my life in college right now . Times changes and I want to change for the better .

Edit : grammar..

I don't get why people say "I'm quitting gaming" and assume that just by doing that they are going to somehow become more disciplined, mature or productive and their life will change. Unless you are a gaming addict, that won't change anything at all.

If you have no regrets, it was the right decision. Games are just one of many things you can do with your life and free time, and if you feel you were being held back by them, leaving them behind is the right choice for you.

This kind of comment is dumb as hell. It's not immature to have hobbies and dedicate time to them. It's healthy. If your passion for gaming is gone, by all means stop doing it, but don't fool yourself that it has anything to do with growing up.

If he feels like he's outgrown it, that's just how it feels, don't take offense. Gaming is starting to feel increasingly pointless to me and I kind of understand where he's coming from.

I think we both know what's best for yourself, I think you're posting this here to vent or find reasons/excuses or like-minded people to facilitate letting go of something that has been part of you for so long. give it up. Just do it. That's what I did and I never looked back. I'm still hooked on GSL/GSTL but that's just like following any other sport. Giving up intensive gaming for me at least cleared my mind and motivated me to do other stuff and you become a more interesting person because of that. You'll also find yourself with so much more free time for curricular activities.

Slightly disagree; it's a very relevant comment to make. Comments like yours validate people putting hobbies before actual responsibilities. I'd reword it and say to grow up (mature) in how you handle your hobbies vs. responsibilities.
