German here. We germans have a thing called a tent. It's like a small house with just one room and no toilet or kitchen or anything. You can fold it together so it doesnt take much space, and if you need it, you just build it in 3 minutes. I know, this might sound exotic to you, but over here it's a common way to have a place to sleep everywhere you are.+ Show Spoiler + Lol. I have trouble imagining a human being that doesn't know what a tent is. Beautiful explanation tho, really vivid.
edit: I'd so share my room with you, beetlelisk. Such a handsome fellow.

But it could be problematic going by a train or bus between the cities if the hostel is not in Krefeld, especially because I would be coming back to the hostel after midnight and finding a train or a bus going that late may also not be easy.

sounds like you are going to have a great adventure. i 100% support it. had a similar adventure myself @ dreamhack summer last year.
so, there's 2 websites like this, i don't remember the other one, this is the one i use, www.couchsurfing.org
IMPORTANT! this is NOT a free hosting service, it's a cultural, human experience, people that try to use it like a free hotel actually destroy it. personally i think it has grown a bit out of proportions, and the quality has gone down, but it is still one of the greatest things i have discoverd. people have hosted me in italy, spain, switzerland and others, and i have hosted people from australia, canada, belgium and others.
anyone coming upon this article should have a look and see if its for them, and if yes, it will change your life in a great way.
lastly, you might have a hard time finding a host BEFORE you get some references, so dont get too many high hopes for this trip, but it definetly is worth geting involved and then using it in your future endeavours.
peace & love
edit: are you sure it's between 5 and 8 july?
edit2: pm me and i can try to throw in more tips about low budget travelling

Hey Beetlelisk I'm in the same boat as you! I'm on a working holiday, getting to Krefeld is no problem , I just need accommodation. #taketv was helpful but I didn't get any offers yet, I hope someone sees this or you find a spare spot. Please let me know. Or ill bring a tent! Lol! 2 weeks to go, not desperate yet. I dont want to pay over 20 euro per night, and if we/i stay in a hotel/hostel you have to go there and back each day, could be harder than you think. Any more foreigners to Germany coming? Or Germans from further away? Best of luck to all of us and fuck yeah HSC V !
Would post a pic too but its hard going thru my smartphone... I'm about 75% as trustworthy-looking as beetle

Yeah, that might be best, thanks Kal. Between us its half.each and maybe we can take a 3rd or 4th person. It would also be a lot more comfortable than a tent, giving us a shower, toilet, WiFi, water, beds! And its almost guaranteed there will be other fans there too. Party time :D
