Hi guys, I thought I would just take a break from this week's Chinese cast and instead cover all of the excitement at a Barcraft event here in Taipei. It was held at a popular bar here called Brass Monkey, 銅猴子 in Chinese, and many a great fans attended. The bar was extremely crowded and free energy drinks were being handed out. However, this was a ton of fun and I finally got the chance to see GamaniaSen with my own two eyes.

http://tw.battle.net/sc2/zh/blog/608465

At the top of the page, is a series of Chinese Characters that say, "Korean World Zerg King" after translation. The premise of this was very simple, I believe. Korea took their best zerg player and pitted him against the best players of each race. Representing all Protoss players in Taiwan was expecIMHui, followed by the king of the Terrans in Taiwan, SpiderDS and following the king of zerg and the world's third best player, and twice-third-place finishing NASL champion (Citing TLPD), GamaniaSen!

Set one, Round one. First up was SpiderDS playing against DRG on Bel'Shir Beach Winter, opening with a two-barracks play that ended in him merely tickling Dongraegu's expo with the marines he had placed in a double-bunker-rush. He further complemented that opening by expo'ing early and following it up with 3 more barracks into pressuring DRG's third, not even touching and losing all of the marines he had produced in the process while simultaneously killing almost all of DRG's lings. SpiderDS recoiled in defense while simultaneously taking his own third in combination with some tech-lab factory play that lead to blue flames in an attempt to counter DRG's hallowing shadows and stampedes of lings and Banelings, but all to no avail. SpiderDS sent his blue-flame helions out and got surrounded and pounded by a tidal wave of zerglings and banelings while exposing his third to lings and banelings, spider had two thors present when lings swarmed his third, DRG took his own fourth without error, and banelings busted down the wall off at Spider's natural and mutas to the sky. At that point it was GG.

Set one, Round two, Daybreak LE, SpiderDS didn't try any shenanigans with early pressure on DRG's natural, instead opting for a one-rax expand in to some Helion play, failing toscout eight early roaches until they were nearly at his front door, DRG taking advantage of that zero-marauder and mostly light-armored play. At the time the roaches reached his base, one banshee was finished just before the roaches hit SpiderDS's base, along with 5 or 6 hero helions which stopped this roach pressure just short of killing five of SpiderDS's SCVs. However, DRG was well aware of the banshee play, and sniped the tech lab on SpiderDS's Starport just before it finished. Every time SpiderDS moved out to attack or harass with helions, DRG would counter attack his natural with lings while DRG was focusing on saturating his third and lost two queens but saved his third with spore crawler from the afore-mentioned banshee play that SpiderDS had. The game ended with Dongraegu pushing ultralisks, lings, and infestors in to SpiderDS's natural after killing his forward third-base at the 9 o'clock position.

Second set of three round 1, XpecIMhui (protoss) vs. Dongraegu Shakuras plateau. Hui opened with a FFE into a six-gate timing aimed at targeting DRG's elected 14 pool 16 hatch in to taking his third at 4:29, according to the in-game timer. DRG held the early zealot / stalker push and his first major offensive was a ling-roach timing attack on Hui's third at the 4 o'clock position, with which he followed up using lings, while simultaneously utilizing a tech-switch to mutas to kill every single probe in the mineral line of Hui's main. The rest of the game was pounded down slowly by DRG killing Hui's main nexus with a ling run-by reinforced with sniping mutas, forcing an all-in from Hui that was simply unsuccessful against DRG.

Second Set, Round 2 XpecIMhui (protoss) vs. Dongraegu, Cloud Kingdom LE. Once again, DRG opened 14 pool 16 hatch into his third, again, at about the 4:30 mark, Hui tried opening against DRG with the same play mentioned in round 1. Sen overpowers this play with roaches and lings, and follows up by taking his fourth and throwing some infestors in to the mix at Hui's front door. GG from Hui at 17:45.

Third Set Round 1: GamaniaSen vs Dongraegu, (MLG?) Metalopolis (Donno if it's MLG cuz there's no gold). Sen elected to go for a 15 hatch 14 pool while DRG chose to go 15 Hatch 14 Gas 14 Pool, giving him an earlier lead on banelings and speedlings, Sen was overpowered by an early offensive of 8 banelings that killed 6-8 of his own workers in his main mineral line, giving DRG an economic lead. Both players put down baneling nests at roughly the same time, however, since DRG started on gas, he forced some banelings in to sen's mouth as mentioned above. DRG took his third down earlier than Sen, at which point he simultaneously took a tech-switch to roaches and prevented Sen's third from going down. Sen then, I daresay reflexively, opted for his third base at what is normally the Gold expo, but on this map it was not the gold, it was an ordinary mineral field. DRG, being ahead, simply powered through sen in this game without surpassing roach-tech. GG at about 15:00, from Sen.

Third Set Round 2: GamaniaSen vs Dongraegu, (MLG?) AntigaShipyard (again, no gold base, not sure). Sen opened pool first while DRG decided to go with a 15 hatch, 14 gas 14 pool. No significant exchanges take place until DRG gets his mutas out on the field, at which point Sen decided to trade bases and DRG pulled back to defend while Sen over-produced on queens, using them to kill his opponent's mass-muta army, and then pushing to the front door of DRG's base alongside a good deal of roaches. However, DRG was ahead in supply by about 60, and Sen threw out his GG at 18:55.

Sorry I can't post the images themselves here, they don't quite show up correctly because the resolutions are too high.

Dongraegu from behind, look at that badass APM, playing aginst a lucky audience contender.

This is Taiwan. I might say you are trolling lol, but since taiwan is tiny and some consider it part of china meh.

Great write-up, padfoota! I haven't followed SC2 at all but it's always cool to hear about such events. Maybe I'll even go to one someday if it's in Taipei.
