First of.. does the title seem right? Is it 'an' or 'a'? Anyway...

Does any of you think that your brain acts younger then your years? I'm almost certain that I do. I don't mean it in a way where I scream and cry if I don't get my will or throw by playstation controller around when I loose a game. What I mean is that your interests and what you enjoy yourself with is somewhat childish?

To put this in context: I'm 25. I work full time. I live alone. I've been in a serious relationship recently. I'm a responsible person who pays his bills on time, cleans my apartment when needed, have finaciel meetings with my bank and all the other stuff my parents also do.

But even after all that I still don't feel like I'm an adult. I'm still "young" but I'm sure this feeling isn't really going away. I don't think the feeling have gone away from my parents either yet. The world around you just seem to change without you changing with it.

Reason I thought of this was I just finished watching "The Avatar - The last Airbender" the cartoon. All three seasons. And I loved it. I mean, it was freaking good. I was funny and touching and I felt I needed to know that next part of the story. The story isn't very deep but I still felt really entertained. Why wasnt the story deep? Because its made for freaking kids! =) (Well I don't actually know, but seeing at it aired on Nickelodeon I'm just assuming the demographic isn't around 25)

Sometimes I just feel I aged to quickly and my brain can't follow up with how I perceive an adult and how an adult should behave. I don't act like the steroetype adult should do according to my own head. So maybe my perception of adults are wrong? I'm guessing it is and I feel like I already realized this years ago. Then why does it still feel like I have the interest of a child (or teenager if you will) when the rest of my "world" are not a childs anymore.

Its weird how you I can only act the way I feel it right and it still feels wrong...

Now. Can anyone tell me another cartoon like Avatar thats worth watching? I feel like I need to continue being a child... =)

The original dragonball series (not Z, etc.) is awesome, it's pretty hilarious and silly especially early on.

It's "a childish adult" not "an childish adult." It's only "an" if the next word starts with a vowel sound (like electric, apple, or hour) On to your main question, if you are looking for a show like Avatar, the anime thread on TL might be the best place to ask.

I just thought the "an" would lean on the adult part and the childish with an adjective that didn't matter? I guess I was wrong =)

Yep, it's always the word immediately after it, e.g. "an awesome machine" or "a fat elephant."

Dragonball is one of the best things that ever happened this planet. If you haven't watched or read it you probably should.

You're not the only one; I feel the same way. I have pretty much the same interests I had when I was 12 years old. Then again, I was considered a pretty mature 12 year old, so maybe that's the problem.

Been same way, had pretty mature view on things for the longest time, yet it feels like I'm reverting to more childish and somewhat goofy as I age. I guess the expectations of maturity for 20some people were just plain wrong from me in the first place. Especially these days when people seem to marry later and everything, this phase seems prolonged compared to some decades ago.

It's pretty strange.

Well I'm 22 and I still watch anime and read manga although mostly stuff not intended for children and play Japanese RPG's and so on and will keep doing this far in the future, if that makes me childish then whatever it keeps me going. If you enjoy doing whatever you enjoy doing and it's at least barely legal I don't see anything wrong with it and neither should anyone else. I mean like half of TL seems to watch My Little Ponies, overkill even for me but hey...?

Funny, I was just about to recommend My Little Pony, especially if you're channeling your inner child. It's quite uplifting and will make you feel happy, plus it's good and easy to get invested in the characters.

Another good one is Young Justice, which is quite good, or if you feel like digging a bit, going through the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited TV shows were really great imo.

Nothing wrong with being a childish adult As long as you aren't hindering your professional development or social life and you're happy, who cares what your hobbies are behind closed doors? There's tradeoffs with everything. You sound awesome so continue on.

Dragon Ball Z Kai is a remake of DBZ that does away with some of the filler and has improved animation. It's also closer to the manga lore wise. Recommended.

You might like any popular shounen animes though like One Piece, Naruto, or Bleach.

Dragonball Z will be highly recommended. Day9, Wheat, Tasteless, and Artosis we're doing DBZ meme's for 10 mins near the end of MLG last weekend.

As i understand it, DBZ is about to get a revival in the form of a new offical series, so now may be a good time to start on those 500+ episodes and movies.

Keep on going :3 To me, it sounds like you are a very responsible person, if you do take care of your everyday life and finance. I really do not see why it would be bad.
Also, "childish" people are always much more fun to hang around with, as they are often not so uptight :3

I quoted this because it's pretty spot on.

I can relate, but I'm quite a ways younger than you. I still enjoy some Batman The Animated Series from time to time, and I enjoyed the first season of Avatar, even though I never really felt compelled to watch the other two seasons. Part of the reason for this was a little thing called Starcraft 2 happening.

If you are happy then you should just continue doing what you are doing. I play the guitar and even though I'm not particularly good by any means, it just is really the only thing that keeps me going from day to day, so I keep going at it every day. Just do what you enjoy, even if that is as counterproductive as watching TV series or playing the guitar or watching MLG for an entire goddamn weekend (again). Me, I find extreme beauty in noise and dirty sounds, and there is nothing I enjoy more than the bass, guitar and drums screaming fury in unison. That and chemistry jokes. What does 17 Sodium atoms and a certain superhero series have in common?

As long as you're financially independent, being "mature" is just another word for being either an indoctrinated peon, a corporate whore or hopelessly pussy whipped.

I'm 31 and I feel more childish (and happier) every day. If someone doesn't like it, they are free to blow me.

I am similar to you, 26yo, done with schools, full time work, live alone, pay bills, etc, etc.

I bough 2 LEGO sets to myself for Christmas and still reading manga (I prefer manga over anime). I believe you are never too old to enjoy what you like!

I'm 31 and feel pretty much the same way. I do what I enjoy, and I happen to enjoy playing video games and watching anime. If one day I stop enjoying those things, I'll stop doing/watching them. I don't foresee that as part of "growing up", but rather, perhaps I'll just find new interests one day (highly doubt it though). I can't imagine going through life not doing what I enjoy because of how others might perceive me, or because society doesn't think I should do it, or because I'm supposedly "too old" to enjoy it.

I will say I appreciate different qualities in gaming and anime now than I used to, which one could call "maturing." I don't see this "maturing" as a side-effect of aging, but instead, a side-effect of doing these things so much that I either get bored of the same-old, or start to recognize things I really appreciate and want more of. I like games and anime with depth (though naruto still has me hooked, at least for canon) but that hasn't always been the case.

I imagine your more "adult/grown-up" friends/peers probably watch a lot of TV/movies. I would compare enjoying gaming/anime to enjoying a good fiction tv show or movie. The stories can be very similar, it's just the way they're delivered that appeals to different types of people. These friends probably don't sit around watching barney (or whatever child show is popular these days), just like we don't sit around playing some barney video game (unless that's your thing, in which case, enjoy). There's as much adult gaming today as there is child gaming, so the "only kids play games" stigma will go away completely soon enough.

Dragonball Hoshi brother, not Kai. Kai is original remastered. Hoshi is all new. Admittedly, I know little. Maybe I shall poke.

Wow awesome, didn't know about Hoshi. Looking forward to it.

Also, regarding "500+ episodes and movies" - feel free to skip all the movies IMO ^^

*edit* Hmm after very limited research, it looks like Hoshi was either a hoax or has to do with an upcoming video game TT

Thats my favorite xkcd comic!

I agree with what you all said that my interests are mine and I should enjoy them. I realized this quite some years ago so that is not really the issue. I just find it weird that my image of how an adult should behave isn't the same as how I act myself but I still see mysefl as an adult. Maybe its a slow process but some would think that if you think you are an adult you also think the way you act are adultish.

Maybe a bit of a simplistic approach into the entire concept of childhood / adulthood, but I am willing to accept that definition as it would also mean that even I am at least partially adult-like ^^
