It's a sad realisation to come to if you're a competitive type, but unless you're gonna give it absolutely everything, it's not worth caring about. If you wanna keep achieving, get to masters then quit. That's what I did, and I play my placements every season just to keep those filthy diamonds out ![]()

rather than see the huge void you need to fill, instead look at what you've done so far it's a road that never ends, and you've been running for so long it's okay to sit down and take a break if you're tired, but just remember it's not the destination, it's the journey If you really don't enjoy the journey, then stop playing. But the destination of being "awesome masters guy" shouldn't define whether or not you enjoy it.

Personally, I've always found that if I'm in the top 30%, I will consider myself good. I'm not all that competitive and I don't play even close to enough to be expecting a top position, so why would I care? There's just no reason to buy into the "everyone is trash" if you're affected negatively by it. The whole idea of everyone considering themselves trash is that it's good for training, if you think you're awesome, you'll just rage and be despressed. Consider yourself trash, and you might be motivated to improve.

Normal is not normal, a la house. I'm not sure why you're so hard on yourself. It takes two kinds of people to get into masters quickly, especially if you've seen my recent blog on what caliber of players held master positions in earlier seasons and how the metagame and evolution of player skill is quickly restructuring all ladder players so that they are in their skill appropriate designations. At this point, it takes two kinds of people to get into masters quickly. Naturally talented or savant types, and hard worker types. Are you planning anything more serious with sc2 like making a little money off it with sponsors? I was approached last night about possibly being sponsored by a fly by night home grown unit from canada, because of my insane number of games played and the fact that I am master and compete in tournaments. I'm still iffy over the idea, because I know it means that I'll REALLY have to step up my game. stop the mass gaming and start really thinking hard and analyzing everything to become better. I wouldn't take sponsorship and stay lazy. Are you planning to go into more of this kind of thing? Because if you aren't, you shouldn't take it this seriously. Imagine its something that you do because you enjoy the game, and that you will get beaten 50/50 because you choose not to try to be the best. there's no harm in having a hobby where you aren't the best at it. Hobbies are completely for yourself, and noone else has to accept what you do. Just you. That said, why not find some pro build orders, work on your macro a little better, and practice holding down your economic growth under pressure with some friends. Then take some solid build orders and try to play them out and see what happens.

I as well, personally, wish I could believe these things, but the truth is, as social animals we are subject to the denigration of our peers for what we choose to do. Why else is "basement virgin living with mom" an insult? they're choosing to do what they want with their life, right? Maybe its jealousy. I know this last word gave everyone reading a chuckle, and thats my point. However, for starcraft this is perfectly true. You don't need to be good at SC to be special. Try to grow in other areas would be my advice. like going back to school, finding hobbies like bonsai or ceramics, etc.

This isn't something that I've been able to change and something that I may never be able to change. I have improved a bit since senior year of High School and am, I would say, continuing to do so, but I will probably never become great. Does that make my life not worth living? Nah. I really do have to just try to do what I can. I should not tell myself that if I can't be the best then I shouldn't even bother trying. I shouldn't try to start my own company and become a millionaire if I don't have the resources and backup in case it fails, I should just get a job. That doesn't mean he's right. Most often we find that some very few are gifted with their genius. The rest of us are either just really good cup stackers or not really that special.

Ask yourself, if the definition of trash is anything but the top few percent, does that idea hold any water at all? I've always felt that the idea behind the negative connotation of "mediocre" is objectively stupid. It's much much easier to get into masters than GM and getting into GM is much much easier than winning actual tournaments we see on streams every day. So if a person can't even get into masters, then yes, he's relatively poorly skilled, even if masters is top2% Relative to what? The top 2% or the whole playing field. I have always disagreed with calling people trash when they are better than the far majority of the community. Sure, they can't take any games off of any pros, but they can have a match win of 100% against 90% of the community. That is not trash. You might be a trash pro, but you are a very good starcraft 2 player. You wouldn't start calling yourself decent in football just because you won some local high school game even though that would put you into a high % relative to amount of people who ever tried playing football at some point in their life I would call myself decent relative to my piers. You should be proud of your accomplishments and at the same time aware that there is always room to improve. I also think that by saying "hey, I'm diamond which puts me into top30%, I think I'm quite decent", you're basically giving up on rapid improvement. While you keep in mind that diamond is relatively shit, you have both the pressure and drive to keep pushing for the cool kids club (and once there you realize they're shit also and try to move on, etc). As soon as you start telling yourself you're already in the club, you've lost the drive. This part I agree with a little more. If you only want to be the top than you do not want to lose your drive to succeed. However, I still think a little sense of accomplishment is important. I believe it creates a better mental state that will only enhance your learning experience.
