So I'm at my college's library just finished working on a paper and so I stand up to stretch and as I stand up I see something that surprises me.
3 guys all next to each other playing WoW
is this normal at all I've never it my entire life seen this.
but it did give me the good idea to put SCBW on a flash drive and use it to burn the time I am now from my previous class to my next one. :D:D:D ( I really wanted a certain teacher so I have a 4 hour break in between classes I tend to get things done but 3 1/2 hours of work sometimes burns me out ):D:D:D

haha I sat behind this kid in the library and watched him play WoW for like 30 minutes(he was a noob running heroics, he was wiping the group over and over, I almost went over and punched him..)

i've seen those in lectures over here, not just library. But then again, university education is almost free over here, so a lot more idiots run around in the first few semesters than else where..
|
Ya, it's normal wherever there is free wifi. I saw this guy going all out on his laptop playing SC2 at Lollicup, looked like he was having a seizure.
|
I don't play games during class, but I've played SC2/BW for 3 hours straight in my school's library.
My bladder hurt after that. Now there's a reason why I play only at home.

lol i saw this indian kid playing MW2 in the front low of a lecture once, with the touch pad on his laptop of course... of course he get removed from the class roster about a week before the final when our prof noticed

I don't see flashdrives in the computers so I wonder if they downloaded the client onto the computer O_O

Prof is a power hungry dick. If the kid is smart enough to pass the class without paying attention why does that bother the professor so much?
But yeah I see kids playing WoW, SW, SC, etc all the time at school.

Lol reminds me when my friend played BW with a touchpad during a mass lecture few years ago. He actually got to C level doing that haha.

C with touchpad ?? That's sick lol.

because it's distracting for everyone else sitting behind him to have a kid sit in lecture playing an fps o.o but seriously why would you ever go to lecture just to game out... just stay at home.
|
There was that guy always coming to every course at my university. He did'nt even look up from time to time. He would just sit there and play WoW all day long. The room was full of people, the air was smothery, you almost fell asleep if you were listening to the professor. That guy wasn't obligated to sit there but you could watch him play every day. Did he come for the internet connection? I don't get that. What's up with those guys?
I don't think it's normal especially if you consider they could play at home. Dunno if that was the case with the guys in the library, guess they played in between breaks?
|
I remember during my programming class, half of the computers had the DotA 2 Invitational stream open. Of course, everyone had their finger on the Alt+Tab in case the teacher decided to take a walk around the classroom.
But yeah, you should always have CS 1.6 and/or SC:BW in a flash drive in case you and your friends have nothing to do during a class. :D

Because the prof might say something important about the midterm or final. A lot of people do this but they usually sit at the back.

This is so true. But if you're busy with gaming you won't recognize him saying something important. Rather watch a stream and check what's going on around you from time to time. The only problem is that it is disrespectful ;(

Someone should step it up and go ask one of these fellows why they do it.

This is pretty normal at the UW. The undergraduate library computer lab is a freaking League of Legends LAN center all day long.
|
One of my friends used to play WoW during class in High School. He even paid monthly for a proxy program that would let him connect to the servers. As for college/uni, I've only seen one person playing games in class on a laptop. Games on smartphones are more popular here.

I watch streams sometimes on the college computer sometimes when I have like 3 hour breaks or even in the library on my laptop when I'm taking a break from studying, but wouldn't really play games, would be far too noisy for other people and I hate noisy people in the library...

DId he have sound on?
Regardless you don't drop someone from a class without warning them and potentially screwing up their semester or worse.

My friends and I used to bring AoE2 on flash drives and play using the schools LAN. Good times.
|
At University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, at around like 12-1 at night, a group of Korean guys and their girlfriend's come and take over this huge computer lab and they basically play SC until like 4-5 AM.
I know this I often study that late, and I'm looking and seeing like oh... the Koreans are back
|
It's not that strange.
I would never do it because I couldn't play a game without a mouse to save my life. All I play these days is LoL. I think the ammounts of clicks would have me out of the room within five minutes.
But it's not that strange. Some people go and just surf on the internet during a lecture. It's not that impossible to pay half attention. If the lecture is incredibly boring it might even prevent you from going into a comatose state.

Friends of mine play warcraft n shit on laptops, all suck. Need to spend less time with them this year.

when i was in college you could never get away with playing games, the would awlays be someone walking about and they were so strict....lol

I thought I'd chime in, I once saw a guy scrolling through a hentai site at the library. It was quite special.

I remember my first semester I took a MIS/CIS elective and a small group of us would be on TL watching streams all the time. Of course the class was a breeze

Where I study there are cafes with free wifi for the students where you can spend your time/don't have to buy anything. It's more comfy there and you don't distract people who want to learn something. But dunno, there where still several people in my classes who played wow all day :/
I wish they'd just shut down the wifi in the lecture rooms cuz 99% of the people using it just surf at failblog/facebook/whatever and distract other students -_-

I never how this could be any more distracting than someone taking notes??
people show up because lots of professors have stupid attendance rules to make up for their inability to hold the attention of the room. That, and the off chance there is something said in class that is important, you are there.

I've never ever seen anyone play games in class before. I mean there's always people browsing random stuff like tumblr and facebook, but never playing a video game all-out in the middle of class. It's just bizarre imo lol.
|
The only thing I could see would be keyboard sound, but so many people use their laptop for notes these days anyway that it would just be drowned out in a sea of the same noise
Still don't get people being distracted by it visually though. Why aren't you focusing on your notes, the professor, or some hot gir lin class like a normal person? Weirdos. Let me slack off in peace
|
I remember that there was this one kid last semester that would always watch baseball streams on his laptop. And whenever there was a bad play he would grunt and shake his head lol. I mean I tried really hard to focus on the lecture but I can't help but be distracted by his reactions.

it's someone playing a computer game, with thing blowing up and an irregular pace... it's bound to draw your eye, hense why we notice police cars/emergency vehicles so easily, it's out of the ordinary. sorry, most students don't have the attention span of a god and tend to watch the game instead of focusing for 2 hrs.. which is why professors always say "i don't have people walking around because i don't need to, your peers will be watching you from behind and i'll know who is watching a movie jerking off etc.."
|

hm, that's imo wrong. Depending on the layout of your classrooms and where you're located you have to see the person playing games when you look to the lecturer. And if your left eye sees explosions every 3s that catches at least some attention. That's annoying as hell for someone with a short concentration span.
