Some friends and I set out to build the ultimate gaming desk.

It had to lift up and down
And it had to be made of pure steel

What we created was a masterpiece.

Here is the couple of pictures I took during the process.

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2641983486251.2150054.1155502793&type=1&l=a7bf971836

The desk still needs to be powder coated and the table needs to be rubberized, but will finish it soon.

Materials--

6x2inch Channel Iron
2x4inch tube steel
31x72inch steel sheet
2x Linear track actuators
http://www.firgelliauto.com/product_info.php?cPath=104&products_id=148&am...

Top piece sets inside the table top and made of 1x1inch tubular steel and a sheet of steel

Here is a video of it in action!

Let me know what you guys think :D

Looks like a great project. I love the mounts for the monitors so you don't need the stands. The look a bit high though, are you really tall or do you look up a bit?

It comes low enough to the point where it will almost crush me and it also goes high enough to go through the ceiling.

I am exactly 6 foot.

Nice!

Makes me wish my desk was not the one it is so I could mount my monitors.

Three monitors take up a LOT more desk room than you'd think, lol. ><

Wait wait wait

What you're telling me is that you didn't install a built in refrigerator, ice box, and oven into it?

Hardly the "Ultimate" setup, if I do say so myself.

Great job though!

Sick project.

Time to sell it to the masses. Make it raise up and down faster, and so it goes up and down by a touch sensor system on the bottom of the table.

great idea to build your own. Standing desks rock but this is the best of both worlds.

If someone would ask this to be custom-built, how much would you ask for it? Yep I agree, monitor looks too high

I like the clean setup myself, I'm a big time fan of minimalism in design, right now the thought of a dual screen setup feels like a bit much, I like that you have a boat load of space on the desk, so you can fit a mouse/keyboard and then some, I would love to have a bigger desk right now more than anything, so I could put papers/books that I'm reading/working on somewhere.

I think you should add some cup holders that are spill proof so that way your keyboard and mouse are always safe.

I think i need more time with it, so far this height is working well for me. If i decrease it anymore i wont be able to add 3 more monitors.

Those monitors seems to be high up. If it works for you it's all that matters. I've heard that the top of the screen should be where your eyes are. I dont know if this is 100% true but i've been told that when we look down we are more relaxed than if we look forward/up. This is because when we look forward we "look for danger" and when we look down we "search for food such as mushrooms and berries".

Maybe it will set me apart in sc2 when im looking for danger and my opponents are searching for mushrooms and berries :D

it looks like a really good idea for a PC cafe so that people can't knock over the monitors, plus it looks super stylin yo
Have you considered the MMO-Champion forum? You are just as irrational and delusional with the right portion of nostalgic populism. By the way: The old Brood War was absolutely unplayable

I'm not sure it's "ultimate" until you slap a treadmill under that thing so you can burn mega calories while you casually web browse/game.

Honest answer? I would pay something like $299... But that's probably too much. And I would see this as more of a commercial product than household.

ei libraries, financial institutes, universities, corporations, etc.. even if they don't need it you can make them buy it, that's capitalism baby.

It's not a problem to make this. I have kind of this system too. All you need its a table lift set like http://www.progressiveautomations.com/table-lifts and some additional actuator if you want to get more features like http://www.e-motioninc.com/Mini_electric_actuator_p/fa-rms-15-12-6.htm
