Naniwa wins MLG Global Invitational over Nestea

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- After a game one loss to IMNestea, Col.Naniwa came back to win the final two games and win the MLG Global invitational.

IMNestea beat Col.Naniwa in game with a decisive fashion. Col.Naniwa's warped in a nexus first to which IMNestea responded with a fast third base on MLG Terminus. Upon walling off, Col.Naniwa began his twighlight council tech and eventually dropped a dark shrine which IMNestea scouted with an overlord.

In an effort to pressure IMNestea, Col.Naniwa pushed the front with a handful of units and warped in three dark templar which were immediately killed by IMNestea without dealing any damage. Col.Naniwa retreated to his base while buying a templar archive for archons, but the tech was not enough to stop the flood of burrowed roaches IMNestea rallied into Col.Naniwa's natural to force a good game from the Protoss player in game one.

Col.Naniwa opened with a pylon at his nexus on his map choice of Shattered Temple for game two, and IMNestea's speed zergling expand forced a cancel on Col.Naniwa's expansion. IMNestea opted to extend himself to a third base as Col.Naniwa chronoboosted three voidrays and attacked the front with support from five gateways just as IMNestea produced 13 drones.

With some stutter-step micro and a handful of force fields, Col.Naniwa killed four queens while endlessly warping stalkers just outside the natural expansion. Despite IMNestea's wealth of roaches, Col.Naniwa took game two and forced IMNestea's into game three.

On Tal'darim Alter, IMNestea opened with an extractor trick and a spawning pool on 11 to Naniwa's nexus first build order. Naniwa warped in a forge while continuing to scout IMNestea's base, and saw IMNesta pull all his drones for what looked like an all-in. Naniwa immediately dropped two cannons in his main mineral line and cancelled his expansion. IMNestea responded by pulling all his drones back to mine, and investing in a third hatchery.

Without an expansion, Col.Naniwa took his second gas, saturated his main mineral line and warped in three additional gateways to safely take his natural expansion, and followed that up with pressure with a proxy pylon near the waterfall outside IMNestea's natural expansion where Col.Naniwa churned out stalkers to pressure the natural. IMNestea's roaches eventually forced Col.Naniwa to retreat after suffering minor damage to his third hatchery and the loss of many zerglings. During the retreat, IMNestea was unsuccessful at picking off Col.Naniwa's sentries.

Col.Naniwa returned home to pick up blink, an observer and plus one attack upgrades before attacking IMNestea's natural from the low ground. IMNestea's roaches were positioned to flank the army, but Col.Naniwa Blinked into the natural, picked off the hatchery, and blinked down to greet the roaches with a slue of forcefields. Col.Naniwa wiped the army clean and hammered home with his remaining stalkers for a championship victory.

Col.Naniwa jumped out of his booth, and stared aimlessly into the crowd chanting his name after his victories over both IMMvp and IMNestea, two players considered to be the best in the world.

Thanks for the recaps!

I had to write a midterm so I couldn't watch.

But man I wish I could have saw this live.

I was most assuredly awesome to watch. After how the first game turned out, I thought Nestea was going to take the series for sure. In any case, thanks for reading, Potato! <3

Thanks for this, a truck knocked out my power right after Nani made 4 gates in the last game. It was only out for like half an hour before it was fixed, but DAMN I was pissed I missed it.

The Global Invitational has been running for the past few months. Artosis and JP have casted all the games through MLG. You can find the vods for all the games on MLG's website. You'll notice there were three separate brackets for U.S., Korea and Europe.

Thanks for reading, guys! I'll definitely be doing more of these when I have the time this weekend even though I work all day tomorrow and Sunday.

There are no VODs from the finals on the MLG-site, as far as I can see. Does anyone know where to find them?
