So after seeing Day9 playing Skyrim i thought id try out Morrowind :3 (i tried gothic 2 but too many problems and got annoyed)
There is a graphical overhaul pack (last update 1.3) http://morrowindoverhaul.net/blog/
I downloaded morrowind+expos, installed in the CORRECT order, made sure it was patched, downloaded the Overhaul original version then patched to 1.1, 1.2 and finally 1.3
Phew all good so far
The Overhaul configuration takes a while and you have to follow the (5-10 page lol?) instruction and not fucking miss a single line
Then reading a few threads+the FAQ to fix bugs (eg dont install morrowind into program files if you're using windows7 - put it somewhere else , enable screenshots using the macro feature of the Overhaul etc)
Now I am finally in the game!
The last thing I done, after spending 2-3 hours getting the game set up and messing around with various graphic options (distant land setup takes forever each time!) to try them out one by one, was to turn OFF hardware shading altogether LOL.
FPS jumped from 8 to 20 and the game looks a lot gritter and darker now tbh. of course i'd rather play with special effects , but 800x600 (looks really smooth on my laptop) with 2xAA and MOAR GRASS/viewfield is cool. i can also enable it again at the touch of a button if i want :3
My laptop FYI is turion m500 dual-core 2.2ghz 4 gig ram windows 7 64 mobility radeon hd4200
i can probably play skyrim on lowest but who wants to do that! will save that for when i get my PC here! eventually!!
my adventure begins.... i take a nap outside after being attacked by a strange man....when i wake up it is dark and cold...

i travel to a new place and come across a tall guard tower peaking into the blackness...i went upstairs and said hi to the guard, he didnt seem very friendly. i tried to have a nap on his bed but he got all pissy and said he was gonna take me to jail. fine with me, i thought, i just wanna get out of the cold
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/bIbt7.jpg)
woo i wake up and leave the jail refreshed and step into....some unknown place. the people here are unfriendly and shout at me as they brush past

i played oblivion before for like ....well 10 hours patching/modding and 2 hours playtime. and i tried gothic 2 but it was too buggy/crashy so gave up. i heard a lot about morrowind so im excited this is working FOR ONCE :3
my character is kinda using Long sword (i hope you can get 2handed weps..), healing + shielding magic, and covert (sneak). i also got enchanting magic incase i can enchant my sword with it, but maybe the glow will bring me out of stealth...

Wow you've never played it? Morrowind is a work of art.
|
Morrowind was so great. Oblivion disappointed me. I loved it so much.
|
Morrowind was so much better than Oblivion, I only ever played it on Xbox back in the day but this updated PC version looks awesome, I may have to try and set this up...
I remember the bug where you could essentially get infinite money from the goblin trader guy, my character was such a beast and I enchanted all my clothing to give me extra speed + acrobatics etc. so I could jump around like a mad man and I was pretty much unstoppable, my houses were better than museums and I was the richest and most powerful man in the land.

morrowind one of my favourite games of all time. I still have my main pc file completed morrowind plus both the expansions and level 54. Enjoy the game

Morrowind is amazing, especially if you've never been spoiled by fast travel. It's surprisingly amusing to plot out your trips from city to city, so that you get as much done per area as you need to. It's also fun to practically forget what you were doing because there was a shiny cave that caught your eye while you were picking reagents.
|
Oooo, you got me all excited to play this. I doubt I'll bother with the graphics overhaul though, I'm not techy enough and it would probably take me ages if I managed to get it right at all. In fact, I might mess something up just installing the game itself, so hopefully you or someone else can give me a hand if need be. xD

that sounds cool jello :3
well i went to a weird town under this starry sky
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/DqFqv.jpg)
then i was in this weird town like a labyrinth of corridors, i tried to chat with lots of people but they mostly hate me and tell me to feck off
i found this cool library with lots of books in that you can read
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/4KfxL.jpg)
im still lost in the labyrinth trying to get outa this nice place. i went into the sewers and killed a rat then this freakin ghost came after me so i ran away. then i went thru some innocent door and another ghost was standing there!!!
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/OehBx.jpg)
finally i decide im just gonna have to jump off this building or ill never escape from it...i found a nice-looking place to try to slide down and splash into the water below....if only i can get my jump jusst right

Morrowind was a revolutionary RPG, especially considering that it came out in the early 2000s. It was a huge advance from TES II, and was just an overall classic game.

sure you can pm me while its fresh in my mind (kinda), the key things are 1) installing morrowind (english vers is easier) then the other expo and LASTLY bloodline expo. 2) then download the Overhaul program, 3) then patch it 3 times, whilst following the userguide to configure it 4) fuck around with settings
it is VERRRRY simple because of that userguide, it just takes a loonnng time , partially because you need to unzip/extract everything which takes forever. the Overhaul includes like every single mod so you're not hunting for anything, just following instructions one by one (watch broodwar casts while you do it)

hrm the first thing i done was get on this flying worm thing that took me straight to other towns (dunno why). i was disappointed that it was instant-load to another town :d

if you jump off where you were in that screenshot but in the place where theres the ground and hold backwards so your trying to jump through the back of the wall you don't get any damage
|
no save file so will not find myself in that problem again for a while ah maybe there is an autosave slot
|
I enjoyed Gothic 3 a lot more than Oblivion. Never played g2 or morrowind though.
|
oblivion was a disgrace to morrowind.

Does the graphical pack include better indoor lighting? I remember the vanilla lighting was terrible.

I re-installed Morrowind too and for once I am actually playing legit as opposed to just cheating and pumping up all my stats and going around and making entire towns die lol. I choose a battlemage type list with Light armor, destruction, restoration, long blade, and block as my majors. With acrobatics, athleticism, enchanting, armorer, and mercantilism as my minors, frostbitex3 was more then enough to kill the first assassin i ran into, so i looted his armor and from there have similarly killed every assassin(5x including the first, the big pieces of armor sell for 500g a piece while the smaller ones go for less) which helped in getting a nice horde of money started(already made about 4,000 gold).

Man im glad I found this thread. Lol i was about to post one asking if anyone had some advice if i wanted to play Morrowind, what mods should I get and what not, but that overhaul thing looks to be perfect. I'll probably wait until the auto installer thingy comes out, because im completely inept at using my computer.
I played Morrowind years ago(but on the xbox) and to this day its like the best game ever. I don't even remember a thing about the game, which should be awesome for replaying it, except that I became the grandmaster of house hlallu and the furthest I got along in the main quest was talking to the first guy in Balmora lol.

Wait when you get to one of those telvanni places, ooooh boy it ought to be very interesting. =)

Pretty much this. I accidentally found a cave with some daedric stuff inside it while traveling to a another place. Was really happy when I found it.
