I just got back from a wonderful week spent with my family at my parents rural home, celebrating my younger sister's marriage to an upstanding Canadian gentleman. Aside from swimming in the Lake, smoking cigars with my brothers (I have seven, brothers that is) and catching the newest Harry Potter in a nearby city, I got a chance to reread the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. If only he had written more. Alas, I had to content myself with the five he wrote. Absolutely wonderful read if you have some spare time. Overall, it was a wonderful week and I'm so happy for my sister.
But back to my story. I get back this afternoon and was greeted by my two cats Duke and Duchess. + Show Spoiler +Duke is the Point Tabby and Duchess is the black/brown kitten ![[image loading]](http://i746.photobucket.com/albums/xx105/IntereoVivo/CuriousCats.jpg) And after taking care of them and unpacking a bit, I sat down to check my email for the first time in over a week.
47 emails later I was down to the few that looked important. That is when one particular email caught my attention. From a self-styled "Judy from www.teamliquid.net", it was a request for friendship and pics.
The Email + Show Spoiler +
Anyone else get anything like this? I guess that is what I get for putting contact info in my profile. But, as I am just back from vacation and feeling all rested and ready to go, I'd like your help.
What should I do with it? It seems a waste to just let it be.
Anyway, I'm glad to be back and looking forward to streaming this week Maybe I'll catch you on.

I agree with this.

probably just a check by some bot to see if your email is still used so he can spam you later on.
|
Doesn't seem like a hacking or virus attempt at all. I think you should go for it man.

Female name, yahoo email account... unasked for... seems legit.

Just noticed the title: "Is me Judy from teamliquid.net"
Made me laugh

You missed one tiny detail:

Wasn't there a blog from a girl who wanted to get in contatc with a TL member based on what she knew from his profile /posts?
Could you post some intrest of you, it will probably ring a bell if it matches with that blog.
I'll go and try to find that blog
Edit: maybe I'm to naive / romantic, the mail looks kinda fake
|
|
Looks just like one of those fake craigslist ads. I'm sure its a bot. It's not like anything bad is going to happen if you respond to it though. Copypaste a loveletter to it or send it some gay porn.

It was a troll. The countertroll, however, was much better.

Yeah dude it's definitely a sp-AWWW KITTIES!
|
I reckon it sounds fake, just because I think that everyone on Team Liquid is literate enough to put spaces after commas.
+ Show Spoiler +... yeah, I'm really judging based on how eloquent she is. D:

I'd say cautiously approach the matter at hand to try and verify if it's legit or not. If it seems to not be, pretend it never happened, if it does... well, that's up to you.
Strange situation indeed :o
Thing is that she claims to be attracted to you due to what was found on your profile, which isn't that much really as far as I can see... makes me doubt the legitimacy of it personally...

This seems like a bot or some sort of hacking network. I wouldn't do anything about it.
|
|
Haha, obviously a fake -- ignore that shit.
|
Dude, ask her if she has sex leg. or W/E.
|
she says she's single and ready to mingle... but you should prepare for trouble and make it double

You don't even need an answer from ILOVEKITTENS to know the answer to this one!

These two kids are definitely gonna make it.

This is a standard "love scam". Judy is probably some smelly dude in his mother's basement trying to make some easy money (that part would come later). Your email was associated with teamliquid somewhere and he found it and used the reference to make it seem believable.
For information about these scams, go to: http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=13

If you really want to reply, just make a new hotmail account and say who you are in it. Google "male model" and find one that you can't name (hopefully the first one ;D) and send those pics. If it is a phishing email then never use that email address again. If it's some TL trolls, they post model pictures lol'ing in some dumb thread, and you lol harder that now TL will see you as a man of chiseled good looks. All win.

Lol of course it's fake. I mean, every suspicious part of it aside, she said she liked what she saw when she looked at your profile.
Teamliquid profiles contain pretty much nothing, which means "she's" lying.

This seems like a good place for a everything went better than expected meme. 14 years of internet use have made me assume anything involving the word teen is somehow porn.

I find it somewhat funny that on the profile page there are several messages similar to the mail in the OP. The spammer profile being spammed.

obviously reply her, also ship her a considerable amount of money for bothering.

I am also confused why they would choose a rather plain looking girl for their scam profile picture. Shouldn't they use some ridiculously hot looking girl, or at least hot but "believable"?
|
I received the exact email! haha. I had a laugh or two reading it.

Because using a hot or "believable" girl is a dead giveaway? OR more likely they just don't give a fuck. Google/Facebook search->picture->phish for profit->take nap. No more work required.

Its prolly a bot or spam or something like that and dont download a pic if you get one... just want you to be safe!
|
I wouldn't go near that if I were you, for numerous, hopefully obvious, reasons.
|
same email was sent to gomtv support
|
90% chance that the email is a prelude to a 419 scam. It has that familiar scent.
|
I recieved this exact same email, its just spam
|
Typical attempt to persuade you to do things you are not supposed to do, under trying to "make you feel interested" in the "girl" (guy in real life)
|
Dunno man, she looks like a keeper to me. She sure looks fine in that one picture!

This was the part of the OP that i though was the most funny...
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Asimov
Asimov was one of the most prolific writers of all time, having written or edited more than 500 books and over 9,000 letters and postcards.
You should take a look at his Bibliography
Also, it's Spam. Every sane person would just write tl.net instead of the full URL :p

biggest give away right there.

... D: I think we found who Judy is, using typing style.
|
|
Haha, what a fun read.
To clarify, I was bemoaning the fact that there were only 5 novels in the Foundation series. I would have liked a book between Second Foundation and Foundation's Edge. I have read Asimov's fiction extensively and am not pretentious enough to read his non-fiction.

Dude there was 7 books in the foundation series not five. The original trilogy then two prequels and two later novels

i got the exact same mail once

I don't consider Foundation and Earth part of the series (though that might be snobbery on my part) and Forward the Foundation does count and I had forgotten it. So, I amend my statement.
More then six books

Don't respond.

Well, if you include the books he wrote in the 80s, it includes the robot books and from there spans the story over the foundation series back to R Daneel Olivaw (if i remember the name correctly). I found it interesting to see how Asimov managed to connect his different series into a single, connected series spanning millenia.
While the Foundation series is still the most "epic" part of that series, all his books are still very interesting to read.

Funny until we all find out that there actually is a Judy and we just filled up her inbox with trolling, virus links and porn.
