Hello TL, I have never made a blog post so forgive me if this is terrible, but I feel like there's an issue that I have and possible some people on TL can help me with my decision. I live in medium size city about 300 some odd miles from Seattle, called Spokane. It's not a terrible place to live by any means, but there's never a ton going on. I've been really bored these last few years living here looking for something new, and I've been thinking on moving to Seattle. I have relatives that live that, I don't know them very well, but positive that i can get help from them with moving up. I have friends here but we're not that close, we don't hang out much. I'm a huge SC fan and Seattle is def the place to be in the area (I've tried getting reply's from people in Spokane but nadda). The job I work at now, branches from Seattle, and I haven't asked yet it there are positions over there, but my boss is a very cool dude and I'm sure he can give me the low down. I defiantly need to get back in school, but I can do that in Seattle too.
All this being said (very randomly i notice, now that i read it) I'm a pretty darn shy guy, i mean I'm a huge SC nerd. I'm a little nervous about driving around in Seattle...i don't know anyone there other than like an Aunt and and Uncle that ive seen a few times at family gatherings...But even my dad thinks I totally should move... I'm 21, i have no obligations to keep me here in Spokane...
Anyone in a similar position or in Seattle that can help a fellow TL'er out? id much appreciate the input thanks peeps!

Seattle is the shit man. Move. It is super nerd friendly and we even have a bar that shows starcraft 2 nights a week.

I live about 10 minutes from Seattle, and I'd say it's pretty cool. I don't know a lot about the other things you posted, but I know there's quite a bit that goes on in/around Seattle involving SC2.

Well if you have no obligations there is absolutely no reason to stay in spokane. Seattle is a fairly decent sized city so you shouldnt have issues meeting new people.
Also there is several bars that have held Sc2 events, such as Chao Bistro held an event where they played the NASL finals live.
The driving might take a bit to get used to, especially the one way streets, but its not rocket science. And depending where in seattle you live you might not even need to drive all that often.
I currently live in Tacoma and visit Seattle often because there is so much to do up there. It sounds like the only thing holding you back might be your own indecisiveness. Spokane is kind of a shithole, i cant think of a positive reason for you to stay there.

If your boss can transfer you over, why not try it out? If living in Seattle doesn't work out for you, you can move back seeing as how you have no obligations keeping you from moving. Might be a good experience for you, whats the worse that can happen?

It's great! Come move over here!
And, if you're up for the drive, go to AFK Tavern to make friends (it's in Everett). It's a 100% pure geek hangout, but everyone is super friendly!

I am from Toronto and I have to say Seattle is a nice city to live in. Just to give you some perspective from someone who lived in a big city before.

Wait you live in Seattle? *stalk stalk* ^__^

Not only did we do the NASL finals at Chao, we hang out there every Wednesday and Sunday and watch some IPL/NASL/GSL/streams :D Just got back from there a little bit ago.

I think the SC2 scene alone is a very big motivator for me...ive been given some phone numbers of some people with connections over there, so i think im gonna make some phone calls and see what kinda of opportunities come up, thanks everyone = )

I live in Seattle and I really like it. Fairly tame for a big city, people are polite in general and also while driving compared to other metros. I'm not a part of the SC2 scene, but I think that'd be a pretty good starting point for building your social circles, so that's pretty fortunate for you.

Most of the year. It's where I was born and raised. Going to college outside of LA, though, and I'm not sure where I'll be when I graduate this year. I'm considering sticking to the Seattle area, though, but I don't want to limit myself!

I always recommend folks moving away from where they grew up, at least once, and for a decent while. It allows you to experience new things, meet new people and challenge your own accepted beliefs and prejudices. You say you're shy...what better way to break out of your shell than to move somewhere new, start working with new coworkers, eating at new restaurants, having a drink at a new bar (or, if more nerd-tastic hobbies are your thing, stopping by a new comic/game store)...all because you HAVE to.
I love the feeling of starting with a blank slate. When I live somewhere for too long I start to get complacent and fall into a routine, and occasionally it makes me unhappy. I've managed to force myself to start new things when I get that way, rather than having to move again, but I used the "move halfway across the country" approach a couple of times.
In any case, I don't know much about Seattle, but I'd probably recommend giving a new place a shot regardless of where it is. You have nothing tying to to Spokane, and if it all goes to shit, you have nothing tying you to your new locale. What is there to lose? =]

dude i used to live in washington (vancouver) and i can tell you that seattle is a million times better than spokane.
eastern washington: 2/3 of the land, 98% of the lame.

Get out of spokanistan! But you don't necessarily have to live in the city. I'd recommend finding a place 10-20 miles from Seattle so you don't always have to deal with the traffic. Everett, Bothell and Issaquah are all cities I like. Commuting to Seattle is doable... but rush hour can be horrible so be careful.

Yea I agree just outside of Seattle seems to be the ideal place to be, Issaquah (modest mouse is from there = ) ) Everett..all sounding great....Making calls with weekend, awesome input! If anyone know of any opportunities over there holler at me

tbh if you have a job lined up or prospects, go for it (or can stay with your relatives long enough to get yourself set up). If you are thinking about moving to work here but don't have much of a safety net think twice.

I'm moving to seattle at the end of august for similar reasons as yourself. I think you just gotta go for it, change is always slightly overwhelming but it is a good thing most of the time. Why not branch out and try something new while you still have the opportunity to. Best of luck to you, and maybe we can play some sc2 when we both live in seattle ^_^
