Hello everybody, my real name is Ezra. I'm Chinese and I'm from Singapore (No,it's not part of China even though the Chinese name of my country [新加坡] is actually a place in China or at least that's what my Geography teacher says...

I just want to talk about my life and perhaps get some advice from the wonderful people of TeamLiquid. First of all, I'm still studying in Secondary school and things have been pretty rough for me academically. I didn't do very well for my PSLE (it's similar to the American SAT, except that you are tested on English, Mathematics, Science and your Mother Tongue, and it's out of 300 points. I scored 233, which isn't really optimal to get in a good school.) So I'm studying in a mediocre school and when I take the bus to school I see all the people from top elite schools and I just feel so ashamed of myself for not being smart.

The things is guys, is that I'm not very fit and I've always had the mindset that:
Not-fit/Ugly = Smart
Fit/Beautiful = Stupid
Fit/Beautiful + Smart = 1 in a million
Not-fit/Ugly + Stupid = Fucking failure at life

I don't know how or why is it that I've always thought that way, but that's just how it is for me. To stay on track, about my bus rides. So I see all this smart and cool people on the bus and I feel like slitting my throat and cutting my wrist out of embarrassment, can't get any worse I thought, they can't do anything to me. But it did get worse. I fell in love with one of the smart and cool people. She studies in the one of the TOP schools' here in Singapore, and I feel like I just can't stand up to her. I mean, what can I provide her? If we ever got together she would be the one earning the money and keeping my balls in her purse. (I know it sounds like I'm a prick, so I may be a prick and an asshole but, that's just me I guess. Also, I know that true love has no bounds and whatever but I just feel that she should deserve some better if we ever got together.)

Sigh, I know this whole thing is pretty stupid but I just want to express myself because I just feel really down now.

Another problem for me is that I'm trying to push myself to get into the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program soon, that whole thing is very prestigious and thanks to my shitty brain when I took the PSLE I have to work 42 times harder to transfer to a school that has that program (People who get into elite schools get accepted into the program immediately). I just can't find it in myself to believe in my ability to do it. I'm trying my best to drill my studies everyday but I sometimes question myself why I'm trying so hard to get in. Is it because I want to prove myself to the girl or is it because I genuinely want to give myself a better future?

I want to talk about more stuff that makes me sad so I'll list them so you guys can laugh at how sad and pathetic I'am:

-Choosing races in StarCraft 2 is so hard. Zerg is ok, but ZvZ just makes me sad. Protoss is cool, but people like to rage at me for 4-gating and doing "cheesy" stuff, Terran is too difficult.

-The music that I put on my Android seems softer than the same music I put on my previous iPhone. Android volume restriction?

-I suck at my own Mother Tongue. I'm just terrible at Chinese. I'm a failed Chinese.

-My best friend might be transferring to an elite school. Won't see him anymore when he does.

-I'm terrible at Math. I mean, what kind of Chinese am I? Oh God. At least I always know what time it is.

-My cynical attitude. I can never stop hating on people. My hate is also ridiculous. For example, one on HuskyStarcraftIt's pretty nasty and if you read it you will probably feel like ripping my throat off and eating it.)
+ Show Spoiler +
What the hell is wrong with this guy? He dropped out of college and in turn is casting for a living. Go do something useful and upgrade himself and study. What is he going to do when he's older? I always wonder that. Is he going to cast until he retires? What the hell? He clearly isn't a very smart person and can't look at things long term.

-Terran lift-off ability. So stupid, Protoss should be the race that can hover.

-The future of progamers. What will happen when they reach 35 or 40+? =( I worry for you all.

-I'm terrible at StarCraft 2.

Thanks for reading.

Just going to give my personal opinions on this.

Being smart doesn't equal good grades. School is sadly enough mostly about memorization. Personally I think what makes you smart is being the one that steps out of the line and looks at things differently. Not the person that knows the most. Everyone can learn anything out of their heads as long as they are motivated. But not everyone can think to themselves and figure things out on their own.

Personal experience:
I used to be a very stubborn person when I was a kid. I always wanted to be right no matter what. Even if I knew I was wrong I would come up with silly things to try and be right. And if I couldn't be right I felt bad and sad.

When I was faced with that I decided to stop this habit. At first it was difficult to stop it, but eventually I felt so much better that I knew other people could be right too. I realized I was not the smartest or best person in the world, and I accepted that. It felt good and it still feels good.

What I want to say is that there are almost 7 billion people on this earth. 7 billion. And it just doesn't matter if you are on the top of this 7 billion. And when you accept that, you will feel much better.
Fuck yeah serotonin

You seem to judge people a lot and think people are judging you. I suggest you just do you and be happy with what you have.

I think you're just stressing yourself out a bit too much. Take it easy, while working hard in terms of education. Also from your 'list' don't worry about that stuff. It is what it is, specially when it has to do with other people.

Sadly that's how the world is. You memorize and you succeed, if you don't, well good luck to you.

I have a similar mindset to yours, and I just look at it this way: I should never expect something from someone that I couldn't expect from myself. So if you want a beautiful, fit, smart girl, you should be a dash, fit, smart dude. Its just equivalent exchange, a person should never expect more than they themselves can do. If you feel that you are the best you can be, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

My thoughts exactly! That is why I feel that I don't stand a chance with her.

That should give you more motivation, not less. If the only thing standing in your way is working out and applying yourself, then you have nothing to lose by doing so. So just put some effort into it and you should have no reason to not ask her out.

Hey! Value and love yourself a little more
Being one self and being satisfied by this only fact is the key for true happiness! Don't let the world let you down, you be the one to take the world instead. After all you are the most important person among people who truly value you

@chimpalimp- Thats a shitty way to live life and a way not to accomplish anything.

I always look at like situations and think of the billion things in our lives that are much more important than the little things. If your shy and you can't get the nerve to talk to someone your thinking wrong. Their are millions of pretty girls especially at your age so to freight if your going to fuck something up this one time is peanuts.
When I worry about a test I think of its only one test; which i've studied for and there's more important things to worry about, such as marriage and starting a family.
Basic TLDR: There are bigger things in life than you think so don't shit on the little ones.

The short answer is that you're still a boy and need to become a man. Actually, most successful people didn't go to school and didn't get straight A's.

Doing well is school has nothing to do with how well you do in the real world. Just be best that you can be at what you want to do and you'll be fine. School is important but it's not for all people. That's just how the world works.

Also, it sounds like you have no self-esteem and are unsure of yourself which will dissipate as you become a man. It takes time. GL.

My mindset is used more as a motivator more than anything. If you put forth effort to improve yourself (in a way you feel is improving yourself), then you shouldn't restrict yourself from grasping available opportunities. If your going to be lazy and just let things pass you, its no ones fault but your own. Wanting to be at the top of your game shouldn't impede you from jumping at opportunities, but rather motivate you to work harder. That's why I don't see it as "a way not to accomplish anything," its more of a motivator to accomplish everything. I'm not saying to let the petty things bog you down, but if you feel like your an unfit candidate, then its your fault for not applying yourself

Take a chill pill. How is 233/300 bad! Once you finish secondary school, you'll realise what a joke PSLE is. You seem like you are friends with a lot of academically-successful people, which may be why you feel bad about yourself. Its just like how Singaporeans think a SAT score of 2000/2400 is mediocre... it's actually pretty damned good (not in TL though. you don't belong here if you can't even break 2k!) + Show Spoiler +
just kidding!!

Academics aside, I know teenage years are rough. You're extremely self-conscious, the world is out to get you, on some days you feel terrible for NO BLOODY REASON. Studies have shown that people feel angry significantly less often after their teenage years. Being critical of others and of yourself is not a bad thing per say, but learning to control your feelings is important. Maturity will help, but don't use age as an excuse!

Singapore is tiny. If you're really good friends with the person who is transferring school, keep in touch! Meet up every weekend, or maybe even after school. Don't need to be emo, you'll meet new friends AND have a close friend in another environment, which is far more interesting than knowing people in just one (tiny, mediocre, pathetic, sad... am I doing it right?) school. So yea, hope I've bashed you enough to make you feel better... that is the point of this blog right?
Same difference is not an oxymoron!

Ignore other people. Set some goals. Work towards them. Accomplish your goals. Be confident in your abilities.

The funny thing is women seem to like guys who are ambitious and working towards their goals. So don't worry about these things and let them come to you. When women are attracted they are attracted for a reason. Don't psych yourself out.

People become their perceptions of themselves. You come across as a very ugly person (on the inside), but probably just because you think of yourself that way. You are so negative and hateful about others and yourself. If you don't believe you can get into the IB program, no probably you won't and be stuck in the sucky school you are at right now.

I suggest you change your attitude about life. This will make other people like you and want to be around you. This will make you feel better about yourself. You will either do better at school/other areas of your life you wish to improve, or you will realize you are actually doing alright, and just had a poor perspective of yourself. You will be a happier person.

Right now you are your own biggest problem.

There's a lot of pressure from the society in Singapore, all kinds of crap I'd hate to endure. But think about it, if you don't like it just ignore it and maybe you'll have a chance to meet people who share the same views and of course won't be put off by any pretentiousness.

If you try to behave like everyone else, you'll probably meet more similar pretentious people. Of course finding someone who isn't is the hard part.

If you really want to learn Chinese, just try to talk to more people who speak it and just laugh with them if anybody laughs at you because that's me constantly asking questions about Cantonese and Hokkien words.

I already speak Chinese fluently but I'm trying to learn more dialects and of course I keep asking stupid questions. But I don't mind it at all when people laugh. Some Mauritius girls were laughing at me too when I was speaking French and make some mistakes. As long as they are nice people you'll learn the language in the end.

In fact, I'd prefer if people laugh at me rather than ignoring my mistakes, otherwise I won't learn anything.
Please send me a PM of any song you like that I most probably never heard of! I am looking for people to chat about writing and producing music | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noD-bsOcxuU |

Either improve through mindset and effort or settle for less than it seems you want at this moment. Pick one and go for it. Being lazy is nice in its own way, nothing wrong with setting a low goal and living out that life. Some people can't be happy being cleaners or servers at restaurants while others never even aspire to higher places.

First step is to stop hating yourself, and don't beat yourself up for not comparing to others. It's definitely great to work towards goals, but if you constantly think negatively it will be a really uphill battle.

Have more confidence in yourself and what you do, and be more optimistic towards life. Ignore the elitism surrounding being in a top school. I know in Singapore being in a top school is obviously good for everything, but it doesn't mean instant success. You don't need to feel ashamed of yourself when you look at other people, that's just plain stupid. You should be thinking, what can I do to be better or more successful than him? If I work hard enough, I can go to the same or even better school than him! You're still only at secondary school, there's alot more to go through after your O'lvls. A'lvls or Polytechnic, National Service and lastly university. So it's a little too early to be worrying about such stuff.

For now just concentrate on your studies, O'lvls is the important stage in your life right now, and you should be putting your 100% effort into it.

As for the girl, just be yourself and try to talk to her occasionally, make her feel like you're a good friend and maybe she'll feel the same way, you'll never know! Good luck mate!

okay im 21 here, finished NS already.

taking the assumption that you aren't just venting your feelings and actually want some different way to view life and all, especially in singapore.

can't say i ever felt the exact same way you did, but you need to chill. don't switch off yet.
what i mean is that your opinion about people with the combination of ugly/beautiful, fit/not fit and stuff equating to intelligence or whatsoever is JUST AN OPINION. don't take people in the bus as an example, look at your friends in your class or people you know. try to guess what they kind of person they are, JUST BASED ON THEIR LOOKS, while pretending you don't know them. Then, compare this to what you actually know they are like. you will realized that while you opinion may come true for some, but others, its just a random mix of factors, example fit stupid, smart fit, etc etc. Heck, you realize that basing a person solely on his/her looks is redundant. a guy may be short, but he may be the class joker and popular with the girls. or a sporty girl, but she isn't really fat, she didnt join sports to lose weight, and she's actually nice to talk to.

And so on.

everything is random in this world. some things you can't control. if you believe you studied you god damn hardest, and 233 is what you got, shouldnt it be something you are proud of? it is your own achievement, your own hard work, that is where you stand compared to others. this will make you humble, appreciate others. learn more from others, doesnt mean the way you have been doing something all this while is the right way. change! take life as an experience, its not a challenge or a test. go out and try, no matter what happens its okay, you only live once, don't forget.

P.S. i got 235, so unless you like to count everything down to the point you and i are similar
sc2 trains my dota micro, dota retards my sc2 mind. -_-" or rather, insert IdrA quote here..always a fanboy :D

Since everyone else is talking about other stuff, I'll just mention some stuff about IB. While I don't know anything about school in Singapore, I did the IB diploma program here in Canada. Good IB scores arent difficult at all to get, as most of the work relies less on memorization, which you've complained about, and moreso on understanding. You're probably a smart dude, and I'm sure you'll be able to own up that stuff. IB is also really useful when it comes to college/uni, as a solid 34+ can get you into anything short of the most elite. 34 isn't hard either

Every night when you go to bed, 30,000 children in Africa die of starvation due to malnutrition:

I just got to say something that I hope you can remember for some time. I dont want you to believe what I say, just remember it.

You have a choice. You can choose whatever you want to.
Believe in yourself and make that choice without worrying about what others tell you.
Just find your own answer.

Until the moment that this is useful in your life, I recommend you watching this talks:
Brene Brown: The power of vulnerability
Ken Robinson: Changing education paradigms

If you like the Ken Robinson talk, he has a book called "The Element" wich is incredibly inspiring. If you read the first chapters you will realise how many wonderful people just SUCKED in our educational system, and even though they are considered genius.

Whatever you do just trust yourself over everything else. If you dont you wont be able to be happy, ever.

Hope you find your own way.

Best wishes. fatum.
Aim to climb as high as you can dream.

everyone suffers from these academic problems.. Just start working hard now (although I have to admit being in a top school breeds a different environment that might make studying and getting better grades easier) its still damn well possible to get stellar grades in any environment, its just a different path.

About the looking fit part, thats probably the easier task of the two. I can help you out with setting up an exercise regime, if you keep with it and do it for a couple of years, people will be like "wow". I know, i was a skinny fuck back in secondary school and just lifted for like 4~5 years and all's good now.

Try to aim for a scholarship after JC/Poly and you are good to go. My poly friend did it, its definitely doable! Best of luck!

just because somebody goes to raffles or whatever does NOT make them a better person than you. the sg school system is so founded on TESTING, that all just because you don't test well doesn't mean you're a failure :<. all just because you don't go to a good school and she does doesn't mean she'll be wildly successful while you will be a kalang guni man (sp???). there are still lots of opportunities available for you out there -- it's all about working with what you have and finding the way to best make use of your skill sets.

Oh yeah, another piece of advice... Find a hobby and excel in it. One suggestion could be playing guitar. If you can't beat them at school at least you can be popular in the future by impressing the girls with your music skills.

Computer games though probably isn't a good hobby.

You're obviously smarter than you give yourself credit for but the level of competition makes you seem inferior.

Girls do marry downwards in terms of intelligence when they are in love. And what's wrong with marrying rich? If you truly feel that way though, you probably wouldn't get along with her even if you did get married.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

That seems helpful, but I just don't have the time to do it I feel, thanks for the offer anyway! =)

To a certain extent that may be true, since Singapore is just a crazy place where academics are top priority and stuff. Also, very interesting point. But how do you know, though? Why do they degrade themselves for us? TT

Meh...Maybe you just weren't born to be fit or smart. Maybe you're the smooth guitar player or the suave yoga instructor, or perhaps the sketchy homeless dude with no teeth. My point is, the rest of your life is a blank canvas and ultimately what you get out of it will be what you put in. The question is, what do you want?
If your only two concerns in life are beauty(hit the gym/kitchen) and intelligence(hit the books), then you already know what to do (if in doubt, refer to parentheses).

ps - play random, never cheese.

I agree with these 2. Also from your post about Husky you also have a poor and narrow idea for what constitutes success, or you're possibly angry because you feel that he shared the inaquacies you believe you have, but has been able to find happiness anyway.

Academic success is only one area in life, and its probably the easiest to pursue, simply because all it requires is natural ability and then you just follow the path. If you honestly don't think you're good enough to continue down the academic line, then don't.

My advice is find something you love and pursue it, that way even if you fail you are happy because you are doing something you love.

Finally to girls.
1) You're probably not as unattractive as you think. Girls like confidence, if you feel good looking you will do a lot better. So you say you think you're unfit, go to a gym then, lift some weights and you'll probably feel better about your appwarence. Also then, even if you are as ugly as you say, girls will still like you because drunk girls go for ugly guys, who are ripped.
2) You're only as cool as you act. Just try and stop stressing and be yourself you'll come across a lot better.
3) Girls don't like intelligence as much as you think, unfortunatly. Sure success is attractive, but you seem young, so pronably not as much and as I said before, you can be successful withoutbeing academically good, passion is so much more important to success.

You are who you are, and the opinions & status of other people doesn't matter at all. You can compare yourself to the smartest or the most beautiful people all day, but you gain nothing from this. Accept who you are and embrace it. If there's something about yourself that you don't like, watching other people succeed won't better yourself. That comes through hard work and discipline, and hell Starcraft takes discipline to play.

You are a stallion.
