This is a topic that has been brewing up in my mind for a while now, and maybe it's already been discussed but I'll post my thoughts anyway.

WHY are korean players allowed to change their nicknames every single season they play? It's the same as if Tiger Woods had his name changed by deed poll between every tournament and the commentators now have to call him something different.

Examples:

ZeNex Line playing as ZeNex SuhoSin

PoltPrime playing as OptimusPrime

TSL Puma playing as Gentleman

If people can change their names on a whim it ruins the ability for fans to identify them. In my opinion this should be changed so that each gamer must register a name with the GSL which they must keep for at least a year. Every time someone changes their name it tarnishes the credibility of the game.

What's your opinion on this? Should players be allowed to change whenever they want?

In BW lots of players use multiple IDs. Korean fans and commentators talk about them using their real names anyway. I assume it's the same in SC2.

Polt was able to play and OptimusPrime because he was the first of the Prime clan to win a GSL, so that's why there. I think you can still call him Polt, though.

I thought Line was still Line and Puma was still Puma, just that their in-game names are different?

And I don't care really unless it's to something stupid. They're just nicknames, so they are able to just change it whenever they feel like it. I don't have a problem with that. It's their internet nickname not mine. I think you are overreacting a little. Someone changing their name does not "tarnish the credibility of the game" whatsoever. I don't think people like their favorite player any less just because they simply change their name...

Yarr, exactly.

The Korean community doesn't really use tags. Besides, everyone has changed an ID every now and then, even the more famous BW players.

Mensol / Zero
Goojila / Kal
Baxter / Killer (lol famous?)

There's a ton of ID changes going on constantly in both games...just memorize faces or learn Hangul for names...then it's easy.

Though on that note, someone should do an ID the Progamer game, see how well people can match a face to a handle or a name. XD

As waxypants said, Koreans mainly use their real name, so it doesn't matter much to them. For us foreigners who refer to them by their nicknames however, it can be confusing. It happens often that I have to look up a player in TLPD and see their other nicknames to understand who the hell is playing.

I dont think it really matters that much when a player changes their name. Most of the time, the change isn't too huge, just a little tweak or change of clan. If you're watching a something like the GSL then names don't really matter, you can just look at the player and identify them that way.
Do as I say, not as I do.

Even savior was ipxzerg first. As said before; koreans don't use gamertags like we do; they mostly refer to gamers by their real name.

White-Ra changes his name only temporarily to support his sponsors, so he is clean .

Is it allowed for a pro player to change his name to that of another's? For example, if White-Ra changed his name to HuK and went against the legit HuK in a tourney using that gamer tag, would it be allowed? Someone has to do this :D.

I hope that people will start using real names unless their names are hard to pronounce
