I hate litter bugs

I even hate that term 'litter bug.' It sounds too much like 'shutter bug' which is just a person that enjoys photography. Or 'lady bug' which is a kind of cute insect and not much of a nuisance. It should be something more like 'litter rat' because every time I see one I wouldn't mind seeing them lured into a trap by a bit of cheese to have their necks snapped.

Most litter I witness are cigarette butts, which btw have the capability to start forest fires. Our governor (FL) recently declared a state of emergency because of forest fires. I suppose one disgusting habit deserves another so I shouldn't be too surprised by this.

The reason I made this thread is because the other night I was at a drive thru and I was 2nd in queue to get my food. The car in front of me appears to have about 3 college aged guys. They get their food and drinks and are waiting for their receipt when I see one of the guys put the straw into his drink and reach out the window to throw the straw wrapper on the ground. He didn't even ball it up, just threw it on the ground while they are sitting right at the window. He had to have known that there was someone in queue behind him and that I would clearly see this action. How does anyone have the nerve to just be a slob when they know someone is watching them? How can people not care what other people think of them? If I were going to litter I would make sure there were no other cars around when I throw garbage out of my window ffs..

Now my problem is that pretty much every litter rat gets away with it. I can't stand to see people getting away with injustice. For example we know that the majority of all the Vancouver rioters will get away with their crimes. To me that is 10x more infuriating than the rioting itself. Whenever there is an injustice in the world there needs to be something to counter it in order to make the world whole again. I guess you could say I am a believer in an eye for an eye. If I knew I could get away with it I would gladly follow the car of a litter bug and key it up and then leave a note on the windshield that says "please don't litter. You made my community less beautiful so I made your car less beautiful. Have a nice day."

So how do you deal with litterers? Do you get annoyed as me? If you don't, what's your secret so I can avoid an aneurysm? Do you confront them? If you do, how does that turn out?

This lol you're a fucking dick if you would even consider doing that.

I like throwing out "Don't Mess With Texas" but tbh I do it in a joking manner and don't really care.

Are you deliberately missing his point? I'm not sure whether you're trying to appear stupid or not.

Yes, litter is bad, but a kid is a kid. He should be taught by parents, but they probably didn't see it, so shrug

Casually toss some salami on the hood of the car, its poetic, and also takes the paint off.

I hope OP goes through with his plans, honestly. It would be an interesting experiment on how effective vigilantism towards misdemeanors is in modern society.

I should clarify that I am from a college town where everyone is a "kid" and by kid I mean 18-26 year olds.

I think it's quite obvious that he is missing mine. You'd have to be naive to think this is the first and only time that this guy has littered. It's not because he dropped something on the ground, it's because he wants to be a slob and if he wants to be a slob then he should be a slob to his own possessions instead of everyone else's.

My parent's live on a street corner that had a fairly large side yard next to a fairly well used street. Every time I would mow the lawn I would have to walk up and down the yard and pick up all the trash that people just tossed into the yard because they have no moral compass. Yet somehow, I am the dick for wanting to teach these people a lesson. Give me a break.

Somehow, keying the car of a college student seems like it won't produce a lot of mutual understanding.

He probably will do it again just to lure you. Seems like a natural reaction.

Ok, you're not being deliberately stupid. Your bad.

There's something called proportionality, it's pretty basic.

I bet if he ever finds you, you'll think twice about ever doing that again as your sitting in the emergency room with your nose in pieces.
No people shouldn't litter, but damaging someone else's property to prove a point... they won't appreciate it non too much.

According to classic behaviour therapy, good behaviour should be rewarded, bad ignored, praising everyone for putting something in a bin would be rather creepy :p

I think the way to go is to make clear you noticed it and you disapprove, but in a manner kind of way: Don‘t abuse the litterer. Usually I friendly ask what they think they‘re doing, if they get uppity, I say I disapprove while not trying to be aggressive or insecure. I assume those college kids aren‘t looking for a brawl, so it might very well work with them.

If they‘re obviously looking to provoke, i.e. in the company of a couple of fellow-hoods, ignore and retreat :p There are people who are sensitive to correction, and people who just want to see the world littered.

Ugh, our school is littered with trash
The whole oval is fairly well covered, it makes me sad.
Worst of all, I think I'm becoming one of them...

If they ever found out they would probably just sue me for damages. Either way, I did include "if I knew i could get away with it" so this line of discussion is kind of irrelevant, don't you agree?

I think the punishment is rather fitting. It'll cost you $120 for a speeding ticket where I'm from. I am obviously incapable of giving this punishment myself so causing a couple hundred in damage to your car would be the next closest thing. It even has some hilarious symmetry: You wreck my neighborhood and I wreck your car. The car isn't even "damaged" in a sense that it's inoperable. It's completely the same, only slightly less pretty. It's not like I am slashing his tires. I am just forcing a slob to look like a slob.

Problem is that you're committing an intentional tort here. It is feasible for you to enjoy the wonders of punitive damages just to make sure you don't do it again.
