I was saying goodbye to my sister. I've spent 3 days with she, her boyfriend and her newborn baby. I had a full day for myself before the flight. I decided to go to central london to check things out and take some pictures. The other day i was in london it kept raining so i couldn't take many pictures and now the sun was shining, a great day. I had 2 bags, one for my clothing and all that stuff and my camera equipment bag. It was a hot day and after walking around in the town i needed to get something to drink before i took the train to the airport. I got to a little stand and just going to pay when i realized my cash were in my bag. I had to open the bag to get the cash so i put down my 2 bags and got the money. I put my bag back on and when i was going to get my camera bag it was gone....
The equipment i had were: Camera - Canon 450d Lens - 50mm 1,8 canon Lens - Tamron 90mm 2,8 macro Lens - Canon kit lens Lens - Some canon lens i got in the package when i bought the camera A bag, SD-memory cards, flash and some other stuff.
The worst think is that all my pictures of my sisters newborn baby is gone. Someone else has them and there are no way i can get them back. Those pictures meant a lot to my sister and i was going to print them as i got back. My dad and mum told me to take a lot of pictures and when i got home i had nothing to show, they were looking forward to se how much the baby had grown.
Now i have to get new camera equipment. I got money from my insurance company so thats not any problem.
Im thinking about getting: Camera - Canon 1000d Lens - 50mm 1,8 Lens - Tamron 90mm 2,8 macro Lens - Canon 70-200 4 L
When i get my new gear im going back to take those pictures so i can get a good end to this story.
*EDIT* I think i posted it too quickly and got the word wrong, it should be robbed not mugged. I cant change it now so if any mod or admin could change it it would be much appreciated.

I believe the correct verb is "stolen". Mugged means you were robbed, but he wasn't robbed or mugged. His stuff got stolen without anyone forcing him to hand them over.

never let go of your valuables no matter where you are. When you run around with 2 bags you will attract thiefs who just wait for an opportunity. But good for you that you had an insurance

keeping an online paper trail, good call. no insurance fraud here.

You weren't mugged you just lost your camera.

No, "robbed" is fine for this situation. The word "robbed" can apply to various situations, including being ripped off, having things stolen forcibly, or having things taken with out your knowledge.
edit - actually, technically "robbed" does mean taken by force, but by common usage (at least where I am in London ) it can apply to all the above situations.

Thanks for clarifying that one mate He's not a proper english speaker, he's a Canadian. Robbed is perfectly correct in the context you used it, and you even managed to nail the London grammar

From my experience you have to be really careful in the central London with your belongings. Especially in the places there are lots of tourists and are crowded. Sucks for you man...

Lol yea dude what the hell, how is this getting mugged? It does totally suck though and I feel bad reading your story. I'm not a photographer or anything so i'm wondering what was the combined value of the equipment in USD?

I got insurance so i will get most of my money back. It's the photos of the baby and all that that are in another persons hand that concerns me the most. I were really happy with the shots i took.
This has happened to my friends to. When we were in Thailand about 2 years ago they got their cameras stolen. We were sleeping and during one night someone came in and stole them. You got to watch out when you're travelling. I thought this would never happen to me. But all it takes is just one wrong step and you're screwed. I even thought to my self when i put down the bag that "there's no chance someone would take my bag without me noticing" and there i stood like a retard after the incident.

dude, I fucking feel for you. It ain't being mugged but this is really terrible. I guess we all have some terrible shit happen once in awhile. My ex drum teacher (quite successful now) had a £5000 drum kit and the van in which it was placed stolen. Some things just come along to test you I guess

This was very unfortunate but simply serves as a reminder that you should really keep a close eye on your shit at all times, especially when you're in a big city =/

i have learned to multitask. You do your stuff and with a the frequency of a few seconds you look at your belongings and check if they are still there.
Also you scout and adapt to the environment. If u know your in a high risc zone in regards of muggerings, you change behaviour accordingly ^^
