Occasionally browsing /v/ for some laughs and good times(even if its offending) there was one that particularly good to read through, even when its over 140 posts long.
This thread is about the kindness that strangers offer to you in the on-line world.
Here's a couple of stories that was good to read and feel all goody-goody/rainbow over your head feelings:
1. >Playing WoW >I'm new, don't know what the fuck >some paladin runs up, saves my ass, gives me like 100g and makes me some 16-slot bags >ask how I can repay him >"Pay it forward. Next time you see a newbie who needs hand, help him out. Then we're even." >runs off, and I never see him again
Months later: >leveling in the Burning Steppes >see some level 22 mage hiding on a hill >he's lost, doesn't know what the fuck >escort him back to IF, and give him 100g, and some 16-slot bags >asks how he can thank me >"Pay it forward. Next time you see a newbie who needs hand, help him out. Then we're even." >my face when the cycle is complete, and continues again
Seems really friendly right?
There was also another one that was nice but a bit dark..I don;t know if this was a true story though.
It was a rune scape game, a fellow new player has just started playing and exploring the world, went too far into the wilderness( a place where PvP happens without permission) and almost got ganked by a bunch of bullies when this fellow high levelled(from here known as HLP) player saved the poor newbie. Newbie thanks him for saving his ass and gives him all the money he has, which is about 10 gold pieces which can.. buy you a loaf of bread for food. HLP says no need and just wants to help new players of the game. Newbie feels all good inside and asks if they can be friends, he agrees and they became bros for a month.
At some point afterwards, HLP went up to newbie and opened a trade menu. He gave him his money, items, rare holidays stuff, etc and told him his account ID for newbie to "take care of it from now on as he has something he must do". He also gave him a loaf of bread as his last item. Newbie was overcame with joy and puts everything he has into his bank, even the bread because he doesn't need to eat it right now. As HLP gets ready to leave he told Newbie to watch out for the papers for the next coming days(Missouri part of the US papers I think it was), and so newbie does. However, what he thought HLP did was totally the unexpected. On the headline it says "Teenager kid suicides", but not just any kid, but the same kid that hanged out with newbie for a month.
From that point he took care of HLP account and made his own account into a high levelled player. He went to the wilderness area to see that old spot where they both met and just like karma, saved a new player from getting ganked by a bunch of bullies. Deja vu? The new player thanks him and says how he can repay him back. New HLP says no need and all he wants to do is to help new players of the game. moreover he gave the new player a loaf of bread that he made himself. The original bread that HLP gave is still in the bank and has never been taken out.
So what have you guys done?
Personally all i ever did in vanilla WOW was help level 30-59 players get though instances that seemed too hard for them to do. It felt good to help other players struggling and all i hope is that those players will help newer players next time.
Much like how a diamond hops onto the strategy chat rooms and help a fellow player get through his difficulties.
So guys, what kindness have you received or give to strangers in to on-line gaming world?

I gave people free items and rushes in D2 just because it felt good to. It also felt pretty good just to have some nice conversation with them, instead of the usual trade spamming and baal quests.
I like being friendly.

Sadly I have mostly horrible stories from MMOs about people who were bad manner. One good story was I was having a bad day because I accidnetly sold tons of cloth for 5% of the current price (lost huge money). Asked the guy who bought it to help me out because I was saving for an epic. He said too bad it happened.
Later someguy was advertising for a transmute. I asked him for it and instead of charging me, he gave me the xmute for free. It also procced. He said merry christmas and stuff. Was pretty awesome.
Personally I just try and tip well and give favors to guildies but as far as strangers i find it personally hard to because of the amount of douchebags in the game lol.

Giving random pretty female characters some kinda of magical rose in RoM, pretty good item for beginners. I received one myself when my character was low-level. I don't play the game anymore but that was kinda fun. I told them the same thing, really, to pass on the flowers when they get better stuff.
It's a butterfly effect thing. It's even better when it happens in the real world.

Whats RoM?
If anyone played Maple story before I believe that would be one of the top 5 games that is consists of mostly good-mannered people. Unless of course someone steals your training spot away, and that just pisses people off.

I play lord of the rings online when I'm not playing SC2. I've been playing it for a couple of years now. I always run newbies through stuff when I'm bored or help them out. I even invite them to my Kin for a bit so they can level and decide if they want to stay or move on etc.
Doesn't hurt to be nice I also never BM in SC2 if that counts lol

SO CUTE
like, really. Things like this make MMOs beautiful to my eyes. Of course it's just an exception I guess...

Call me religious, but everytime I have an exam or want a snack, I go to the small store (depanneur here in Quebec). I always see a homeless man asking for money, beer, drugs or a hooker.
I give him neither of those, but I always give him a bottle of water and shake his hand, look him straight in the eye and realize that I've given him something to fill his thirst and something to fill his eyes and mind: respect and perhaps dignity.
Not MMO-related, but I always feel generally satisfied after.

When I used to play Linage 2 (free pvp) I would often kill newbies for fun just because I could. I would also often save newbies who are getting overrun by creep and give them gold. It's just randomness and boredom really. But that runescape story is pretty scary.

I played a 2v2 on bnet once bgh. This guy was playing against 2 of his friends. I was the worst player, he was my ally, and he was the best player.
I pick terran, he's protoss and he goes like "what are you going?" I respond "don't know" He's like "build 4 barracks in a square and just keep making marines" Then all game he just keeps giving me instructions to play better, kept a good eye on what I was doing, like when I got a refinery he asked me what I was using it for, I just answered "stim, it's really useful" though I had the intention of getting comsat, an ebay for +1 and turrets, and medics too. We go on to win the first game
His allies want a re, they don't like losing to us I do the same thing the next game We kick their asses again, though less soundly than the first time. His friend's asses were too sore to play again.
I'm just glad that even though I wasn't the same caliber of player as he was, my ally didn't get mad at me or kick me out. He didn't make excuses when we were losing. He showed me a build to play better in team games, and he showed me how vital communication was to a team's success.

Good story from the BW days, unfortunately I don't see many of that in random team games nowadays on SC2. I'd say 60% people won't listen in random team games and do what they want without looking at the team's army composition.
