OH, well, if you want some insight on the people. Don't be scared if more than one person is arrogant as hell towards you, they tend to be like this to everybody, not only foreigners >___>.
Also, if you travel by subway be careful with little girls that go around on groups! they are very competent pick pockets and will steal anything in sight...
So yeeah that's some things that come on top of my mind for now haha, tell me where in paris you're going to be, like this I can stal-...*ehem* nevermind :')

I took 3 semesters in community college and work with both French and Algerian people so I've practiced it a bit. I guess I should still work on my accent but I would add to my credit that I just read Descartes Meditations in French and I was able to understand it so I'm not terrible =].

Meh, sorry for my engrish :
Dont think average french is that arrogant, that's mainly because they ( we?) got a sh!tty english, so we're a little bit ashamed of it, and we put alot of effort to understand it ( and to le speak le engrish )
As mentioned above, take care of pickpockets , and take care of ( i'm not racist, that's just a fact) "black" bands in the metro, they often aggro random people that seem rich for mainly stole their bags etc, so if you got a portable cpu, try to dont go that much in bus / metro.
You mentioned you were in sciences po , that's not really in the neighbours, so everything should be fine, but stay aware 
Also , the center of paris is fkin expensive, its a beautiful city, but so goddam expensive.

I was just saying that I appreciate the way the OP said 'this is a brag blog'. Because why not just be proud of something and brag about it??? I like people who are just straightforward, many times you see brag blogs which are covert brags, perhaps in the form of a confession or a question. So I just complimented the OP on his honesty, and it means I can feel good for him about his achievement.

I assume you know at least a little bit of French?
From what I've learned, always try to speak (your possibly broken) French first, and then give 'hints' that you speak English, and the person you are talking to will likely switch to French for your convenience (most people in Europe understand English as a second language much better than we do). It's rude to just go around speaking English, assuming that everyone does speak English, and should follow the language you want to speak.

Well... I lived in Peru for 17 years, and I'm already fluent in Spanish, so I figured I would get much more if I went to a place I've never been before where I can practice the language and get accustomed to it for a year.
Also the programs to Peru are available only during the summer and that's when I should be saving money for college, not spending it.

Yeah I'm actually fairly fluent in French... My accent is by no means horrible but I've been told that I speak too fast, so I'm naturally self-conscious about not being as good as a native speaker. One of the purposes of this trip is to improve my French language skills =].
