Congratulations to Codetta, who has been promoted to Silver! Codetta continues to work on understanding responses to different strategies and each matchup. His game has really improved and he's put in the time to ladder and use his coaching in practice.
Congratulations to SicKShoT who has been promoted to Platinum! SicKShoT is a super motivated young player who soaks knowledge up like a spunge. I imagine this will be the second student I've had who is soon better than me.
VanderLuust
I had the chance to work with VanderLuust again, which is fun. There's a nice smooth aspect too his game that I can't quite put my finger on. We worked on using force fields in conjunction with colossi to keep the enemy ground units away from his damage dealing juggernauts. Something I took months to learn, he was able to pick up in one afternoon.
New Student: Obscura
I picked up a new student the other day in a Gold Zerg player named Obscura.
First Impressions:
The Good - Has pretty good drone numbers in most games that get into the mid-game. Uses a good hotkey setup, hatches on one hotkey, queens each with their own hotkey. Expansion timings are pretty good in general. Pretty good Muta harass where he uses hotkeys to macro while paying attention to the Mutas.
The Bad - Drone timing is not very good. Often forgets to mine gas at his expansions. Doesn't really do housekeeping on his expansions at all. Gets supply blocked often. Scouts too late on short maps and gets caught for it. Needs to scout better in general. In one game he GGed after winning a ling battle because he thought he was far behind, but was actually ahead in economy and troops. Doesn't keep supply available to mass troops when necessary. Has poor responses to some unit compositions, like muta-ling vs Thor. Goes 15 hatch in situations where it's too risky.
The first thing I worked on with Obscura was drone timing and only making units when neccessary. Also explained what appropriate drone counts were, and the importance of mining his gas at his expansions. I drilled him on these things vs the computer and then sent him off to play some ladder games, where he performed very well. After winning 5 or 6 games in a row I think he's starting to get a feel for the importance of a strong economy.
