So T.I. has a new album that came out on December 7th. I decided to give it a listen today and blog about what I thought of it. Now I have very high expectations for this, since his last album before he went to jail, Paper Trail, was extremely good.
“Welcome to the World” starts off the album. Its a good song. Kid Cudi is doing his own thing, singing the chorus in his trademark voice, while Kanye raps about women and money, you know, the usual. Not bad. The next song, “How Life Changed”, is very introspective. T.I. raps about his early days. And the chorus is meh. Its an alright song.
“Get Back Up” feat. Chris Brown. Ohhhhh boy. T.I. you’re trying too hard. really? Bringing Chris Brown to sing the somber chorus for you? You’re trying too hard to be inspiring. He even compares himself to Tupac in this song.
That’s all She Wrote is pretty good. Eminem’s part is Insane. He’s become the new Twista in rapping. The song is… exhilarating to listen to. T.I. continues detailing the ills of his fame on the poignant “Castle Walls”, as Christina Aguilera knocks out the hook to the song showing that success is no match for depression.
No Mercy is a great song. I’ve always been a big fan of The-Dream. And his vocals on this song perfectly complemented the theme. Thats how all your songs should be, T.I.
Drake was great in Poppin Bottles. Really good dance track. But… The album focuses too much on T.I.’s….sexual prowess. It seems like he’s trying to become the new Trey Songz or something. And I do not approve. Yes, T.I. said he was going to tone down the gun talk in his album, but there are plenty of other topics he can rap about. Not just…sex…..
Overall, the album’s pretty good. I’d give it a 7.5 out of 10. True fans of T.I. will love this album. The amount of featured artists are very numerous(which I like). Some mediocre tracks here and there, but thats no problem with me. But please, tone down the sex stuff next time. Like I said before, the music industry already has Trey Songz. It doesnt need another one.
