In a happy christmas eve mood, I realized that every country has their way of holding their christmas, and I wanted to share the danish (or atleast my family's tradition )

In Denmark we hold EVERYTHING on the 24th, we dance around them trees, we get presents, eat rissalamnde in which we find the secret almond, if you get it (theres A LOT of almonds in the risalamande, but all except one is chopped up.

I actually found a whole almond (a nonchopped one, if you will).
But as luck would have it, it was a almond which wasnt chopped up by mistake, my little sister had the real one instead, and while I was giving her the evil look while she flashed that evil smug face of hers.
+ Show Spoiler [my expression twards my lil sister] +

There goes 2 free cinema tickets with popcorn and soda, sigh, I coulda totally used those for a certain one, but thats another story (;
Risalamande and nordic food comic for the jolly readers
For dinner, we had sweet potatoes, potatoes, duck, meatballs, salat and this DEICIOUS scauce. (no picks taken to provoke HUNGER!).
So we went to dance around the tree, we were singing salmons and christmas songs while, in my otherwise aetheististastic life, praising the birth of Christ himself.
We went on to have presents, and while I write this, I realize I can't tell you what I had without bragging, and I can't tell you what I didn't have without emoing out (either is a no-go).
Instead I will tell you that I had my first glass of cognac, oh boy that scratched in the throat.
And wish you a merry christmas from your friendly neighborhood Gingerkid.

Merry Christmas, and a happy new year

From DK

I'm fairly certain he meant dance around the decorated christmas tree in the living room, the same tree which bothers the entire family for weeks up until the 24th. I could add that it is a custom here to wait with the presents until everyone has been dancing around the tree, making the youngest members sort of "work" for their presents, and by work, of course I mean, toy with their patience.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Oh, and if anyone reads this (or anything on TL.net, me exempt) then I've gotta message for you:

GO AND SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY INSTEAD OF INTERNETZ!

But really, no matter where you are, in Denmark, Geneva or wherever, the best and most common/important/valid way to celebrate Christmas is to spend time with family and friends. And if you don't have any, then just go outside and wish random people Merry Christmas, it's great!

nono, the sliced part of it is actually the skin of the pig ("flæsk"). It's a must (along with duck) any cristmas eve, though they are nothing without some good sauce.
Along goes these things: preserved red cabbage, potatoes (and caramelized "brown" potatoes), hmm, yeah that pretty much all the things I eat from the dinner... There are some more stuff and other variations that I don't recall.

+duck.

...And then comes the dessert, which usually include that game thing that has already been mentioned.

Yeah merry christmas people.
On the flæskesteg/duck debate, I must say that though I like flæskesteg nothing beats duck and I'm fine with just that.
