It's been about 6 years, and I just can't seem to sleep and it's really bothering me lately because my wrist has recently started to hurt from spamming games and no good tv shows are on during the week.. So i'm increasingly bored. So now that I can no longer play games late at night I was curious, what other activities do fellow insomniatics (is that a fucking word?) do to occupy the late night time. Really bored and my music computer just died so I can't even record which is what I usually do.. I don't really wanna watch youtube vods of sc2 because aside from day9 most commentators are trash.. I've been watching pro league and GSL but theres like 4 hours before that starts where theres just emptiness in my schedule where theres nothing creative or constructive to do so enough ranting just want to see if anyone has suggestions or stories or anything to pass the time.

No I don't need help curing my insomnia for the inevitable poster who will come in here with all his/her godly wisdom on how seeking professional help or medication will help because theres no way that in 6 years I ever considered that.

Edit: Every other post says read. I know this.. If you have suggestions for books you enjoyed that would be appreciated :3

Lol i'm not much for video games aside from SC, my house is spotless and I do read quite often frankly D:

How much is netflix? I mean does it just let you buy movies or are there tv shows and other things as well? Any books in particular you'd recommend? :o

That sounds pretty bad. I think you should seek some professional help or get some medication to help you sleep.

But in all seriousness, anime is a great way to pass time. There are so many great series out there. If you have never watched anime before, Death Note is a great series to start at, but if you have watched anime before, keep watching!

I've watched Death Note, Inuyasha, Code Geass, Eureka 7, Naruto (LOL), most Gundam series, Darker then Black, Evangelion, Bleach, I mean all the english dubbed ones easy, I've tried watching subbed but I end up dozing off and having to rewind a million times to re-read what I missed..

I often go for a few weeks at a time without being able to get to sleep for many hours. I try not to fall into routines because it just makes it worse. Try making a list of things you like to do but don't get around to doing. Maybe try something new that could hold your interest or turn into a new hobby.

I started to try creative writing and am thinking about trying to learn how to draw. I also like reading articles that are of a certain subject matter that I would not normally read.

Hope this helps. Sweet dreams.

Edit: Spelling.

This is a perfect opportunity to get to some books you've been putting off reading. If you want to stay on your computer just download a free reader and get a couple eBooks. You will be surprised at how quickly time passes when you delve into some great reading.

Actually I really like this, I got into physics by just reading randomly on the internet and now I read all Brian Greene's novels because of it and the likes. I'm sure there are plenty of subjects I could find as well. Also.. drawing does sound quite entertaining and is something I've always wanted to learn. Thank you ^_^

Have u watched Elfen Lied before? One of the greatest anime series ever, despite the nudity.

Some others based on your list, dunno if u seen them before:
Escaflowne
Fate/Stay Night
Fullmetal Alchemist
Ghost in the Shell
Hellsing
Gurren Lagaan
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Gungrave

Yes, drawing is a great way to spend evenings. I find that my creative perks pop up late at night when I'm just slightly tired. A sketchpad and a charcoal pencil are all you need to get started.

- A lot of reading, from mangas to classics. If you have time to spare, try something you've never read before, like russian books from the late 19th or early 20th. Or even science
c books on subject that tickles you.
- Langages are also good time sinks, you can try to learn one speaks by people who are awake during the night and talk to them.
- Programing also does wonders so kill a night.
- Smoking pots can help too. But beware it is not a cure and it might in fact be the worst way to smoke.
- Play a mmo.
- Daycasts (Day9, Honcast, GSL, OSL, etc etc). Lots of hours wisely used.

That's all that came to my mind.
Anyways GL, insomnia sucks.

EDIT: just saw your edit.
- if you like manga, mangafox is what you need. Finishing this one will take you months.
- Hubert Reeves wrote very soothing books about astrophysic.
- Fantasy is always great. aka: The wheel of time, A song of ice and fire, Dune, The death gate cycle (<- great one).
- If you have some background, classics from science are great too. Everyone knows who Einstein, Newton and all are, but almost none read their books although they are very interesting.
- Philosophers are often hard to understand but they are not famous without reason. You might want to try big names before underground writers.

Oh, another thing I used to do late at night is eat eggs. Idk why, but I really enjoyed frying up an egg and just eating it in the middle of the night.

What I'm currently doing to feed my insomnia is posting on this thread. Insomniacs ftw!

Ya I read a lot of physics, might get into manga just never really looked good to me. I know german and I really wanna learn korean but somehow every time I try I give up shortly after :x
I'm learning programming gradually and I really enjoy it. As for drugs I've been sober for 5 years and am quite proud of it and don't think I'd ever want to return. I used to play runescape and it's okay.. But i'm not looking for something addictive that could potentially ruin my life and make me forget my responsibilities like I've heard WoW does. And i've seen.. like literally every daycast cus I've been following the scene forever D:

What's your age? Naturally late teens tend to be up late due to melatonin being released later than usual (this is for teens).

Brian Greene writes awesome stuff. I have The Fabric of the Cosmos by him. I believe his earlier work is called The Elegant Universe. I have not read it but if you have let me know if it is worthwhile.

If you like Greene, check out Neil deGrasse Tyson's Death By Black Hole. This man writes (as well as speaks) with such a passion for science. Also, I have to make sure you are aware of Stephen Hawking's A Briefer History of Time (the common reader version of the gigantic A Brief History of Time) as well as The Grand Design. Great works by a legend.
