Never thought I would get an opportunity to meet SlayerS_Boxer without actually flying out to Korea, but low and behold with good timing, and enough patience I was able to meet the Emperor of Terran himself!
Also had to get an autograph from him of course!
It may seem strange, but he's signing an Ace of Clubs from the Starcraft 2 poker set they sold at blizzcon in 2009. I didn't attend that one, but a friend of mine did, and got Savior to sign the Ace of Spades. He tried to get NaDa to sign the Ace of Hearts but he had already left. I figure getting the 4 bonjwas autographs on the SC2 Aces (considering how close Poker and SC are related) would be pretty neat. I'm 1/2 way there!
As for my "meeting boxer" story, its actually pretty interesting. So, its about an hour before he has to play FruitDealer.I brought my friend Ray with me to take a picture (he didn't know much about boxer or the korean scene in general ,but he was good support). I headto the progaming area (which is kind of velvet roped off) spot him playing and watch him from the best spot I can find, waiting patiently to find an opportunity to get a picture/autograph. Next to me is a Chinese guy with facepaint on (he had a costume from earlier) but in regular clothes. He was doing the same as I was. We talked a bit about Boxer, and he had told me that, without his facepaint, people always tell him he has a face exactly like Boxers.
So I'm standing there waiting patiently, talking and sort of trying to watch him play, when the 2 guys behind him (one with a giant camera) come over to me, and ask me
"Are you watching him ?" "yeah" "Do you know who that is ?" "uhhh yeah, its Boxer, Lim-yo-hwan" "oh, you are a fan ?" "of course!"
They go on, to basically interview me for about 5 minutes about what I knew about Boxer, and Korean progaming, why he was one of my favorite progamers, what I liked about him etc. They thank me and head back to film him playing. I stop them and ask what all of it's for, he tells me they're filming a Documentary about Boxer to be aired on Korean cable television! We talk for a little about it, then I ask them if they can to let me know if/when I can get an autograph/picture with boxer. They say probably after his game and they'll let me know.
Few minutes pass by and Boxer finishes his game, the camera crew guys talk to him, look at me and nod me over. The Chinese facepainted guy, instead of going into the area with the computers, heads behind the curtian into a backstage-ish area (wtf?!) without hesitating, I follow him and so does the Boxer crew. We end up in some back area hallway, and basically setup a little photoshoot meet-and-greet autograph session, it was pretty awesome, and more than I could have hoped for.
Wo that's awesome! and +1 for the aces idea, really original and would look badass if you can finish it.
I want to attend blizzcon in the next couple years. Past all the crap people talk about it, stories like this pop up every so often, and I don't feel like I'll have the opportunity of meeting progamers anywhere else. Good luck!
Thats awesome to meet boxer. No wonder boxer is good at micro look how big his hands are :D. You seem taller but your hands are way smaller then is in comparison.

really wish I could get a picture of savior signing it, or with him, but considering his current....situation I think I'll have to settle for what I've got.
Okay, this is a brilliant idea, getting the legends to sign the ace cards. Normally I think the idea of autographs are pointless, but I'm going to make an exception here; that's a freaking collector's item.
Damn, congratulations! You are one lucky guy Your idea of getting the progamers to sign the Aces is golden! Good luck with getting Oov and NaDa's signatures! You can do it!
I'm the "Chinese guy with face paint" in the video. Yeah we were very lucky in the BlizzCon.
The reason I took Boxer and his crew to the back entrance was because i wanted to avoid the crowd there so we could take our time to take pics and his autograph etc. And it has better lightning for taking photos than the pro-gamer area.
I did a little bit research on the Convention Centre so I knew that place. It's next to the pro-gamer's cafeteria but accessible to the public. Always be prepared!
You sir are a professional, and I'm glad I had you take the picture instead of me taking it with my phone, and using my phone to make a video turned out pretty neat anyways.
Can't say many people have their first post on teamliquid be one with a picture with Boxer lol, very well done indeed!
