1.5 years in the making. The longer I do jiu jitsu, the more I realize is missing from my game. Makes you wonder if its ever possible to reach a level of mastery.
Anyway, thanks for listening everyone!

A blue belt in BJJ is a major achievement. Its not like belts in other styles that are handed out for attendance. You should be very proud! Keep with it!

I suspect you could probably hold your own against many weaker purple belts. Be proud man. This is a great thing and your rewards will only grow.

I've trained for several years without proper dedication to get a blue belt. I'm on the way but not there yet. Alexandre Paiva gave me one stripe though. Unfortunately, I'm not training this year because of homework and things like that.

Man, i wanna try BJJ as well but I'm a skinny alien with this beer belly. My friend told me that I need a lot of upper body strength to do some of the moves if ever I fought a bigger guy? Is this true or is this all about technique?

Is this true or is this all about technique? If you fight someone with BJJ or Wrestling knowledge, size and strength will begin to matter. The more he knows, the more important strength becomes. But with even a little bit of a background in ground fighting, you'll find that you have an exceptional advantage over people that don't have that knowledge. I've trained in several different styles for the past 7 or 8 years... Right now I'm working out at a school that focuses predominantly on stand up work. My instructor is a kick-ass striker, but when we hit the ground, it becomes my game. He's a very experienced martial artist, but the few years of BJJ I have give me so much of an advantage in a grappling situation that its uncanny. That said, as far as real life practicality goes, don't expect to take some dude down and triangle him in the middle of a bar while his buddies stand by and watch. BJJ is a fantastic (maybe unrivaled) martial art for the 1v1 encounter. You don't want to be on your back when whoever you're fighting has friends, though. =p But I've rambled a bit. Don't stray from trying BJJ because you feel like you're not fit enough. It'll get you into great shape, and if you do end up pissing someone off, you'll have the knowledge you need to defend yourself. Regardless of how big they are. (Remember, sometimes having that knowledge means knowing when to walk away)
