So I'm moving soon and I need to get a computer desk. I've been to the Staples, Office Depots, etc. that are nearby, and all I've found so far is cheap crap and overpriced junk.

All I want is a sturdy desk with a nice flat surface. No shelves, file cabinets, or keyboard trays.

Any suggestions?

Lol, this is kind of a weird question, desks aren't mass produced unless they are plastic collapsible ones or ones from IKEA. My recommendation would just to keep looking and look at an IKEA catalog if you haven't already, best place on earth.

Check out thrift stores that sell furniture like Salvation Army.
It's supposed to be automatic but actually you have to press this button.

Check out the Galant series from Ikea, pretty much what you describe, and totally customizable (ie. you can make them longer/shorter/wider, for corners, etc.). Four different colors, height adjustable as well.

I would recommend kijiji or craigslist. Lots of people getting rid of desks for decent prices(assuming you have some way to pick it up).

Yeah, I know its weird. That's why I made a blog post. I was just frustrated I couldn't find a worthwhile desk lol.

IKEA seems to have some nice stuff, though.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70175416 There's a version of this desk that doesnt have that pull out thing. It's a really good desk but be warned it is quite a large desk.
So say we all.

Big flat surface, 100 bucks, no bullshit.
Of course, you only live one life, and you make all your mistakes, and learn what not to do, and that’s the end of you.

I'm currently using this:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99851435
except bigger (about 8 inches longer i think)
very easy to assemble (all you really gotta do is screw in about 20 screws and you're set)

IKEA is a great place. Also, going to thrift stores is great too. You might find some real nice old desks that need a bit of sanding and a new paint job.

I was just at ikea a week ago looking at this desk. It's a wide surface but its pretty "thin" length wise.

Personally I would take note the height and length of the disk.

Longer or even L shaped desks are great for a workstation set up. The Height of the desk is also important because we have have different heights.

I'm not a huge dude so I prefer something that's not too tall.

I can attest to the awesomeness of this product. It is easy to assemble, extremely light, extremely sturdy, and really easy to clean. Oh, and it's 40 bucks. Unbelievably dirt cheap. Perfect simple desk.

I can vouch for this. Find yourself an old/unused door. Or just go to home depot and pick one up.. Two file cabinets are more than enough for your files and games etc. It's cheap and durable, and when you don't need it anymore, you have yourself a spare flat surface and two file cabinets that you can stack anywhere.

Seriously think about it.
