After ending last season in the playoffs with no one who could remember how to play Brood War, The Ohio State University is back for another season of CSL. Hopefully Starcraft 3 beta won't come out before the end of this season, we're pretty easily distracted.

If you don't know what CSL is, check out this post: http://www.cstarleague.com/node/82

You can be a graduate or undergraduate student at the main campus or one of the branch campuses (as long as the rules are the same as last year). I believe PSEO students are not eligible, but if you are full time and want to join we can double check though.

Registration opens August 25th and ends September 25th, but you can join the team before that unofficially. We communicate through Facebook and it's worked really well for us, but if you don't have an account we can work something out. If you're interested in joining, PM me with your name, link to your Facebook if I can't search for you, and OSU email (to confirm you're a student, and to register you for the team).

i'd personally love to play but i can barely play mp on my laptop(get like 3 fps once the game goes past 40 supply on a hot day) so i haven't been playing much . No one i know is competitive enough to recommend for this although i guess i can ask around.
why do people who give advice never seem to follow any

There are at least 3 OSU's in the US: Ohio, Oregon, and Oklahoma. There are probably some OSU's that are named after cities like Omaha or.... Orlando or something.

And I feel your pain not being able to play much. I'm on a laptop until I go home from my internship. I don't know what hot days you're talking about though, it's only been what, 100F the last week or two? T_T

Any chance you have a mailing list or something for those who just want to hang out and watch some of the matches live at OSU?

We don't really have the space to hang out and have LANs at this time. Only a couple have laptops that will run the game (Macs...) and it would be a pain to drag desktops around campus (the guys I know are spread all around). At this time we're not really considering going for club status because we still wouldn't really have a good location to play if we can't easily bring computers.

i think he just means hang out at some place where we can hook up an HDMI cable to a bigass screen so we can watch tournaments like MLG Raleigh/HDH/GSL

We technically don't have the rights to that kind of space... I think we'll focus on smaller team events for now if we get to have anything this season.

Hey all. Just saw this thread and thought I'd post even though I already emailed the coordinator about joining as a player.

I was also wondering about on campus LANs, since it would help a lot with practicing. I'm sure we could secure some space in one of the buildings to at least play our matches together if we worked hard enough on it.. We'd only need two computers (One for Spec and one for Player), internet and, preferably, a projector for the observers to watch on. It would probably take longer to get through all 5 games of a series, but it would be more fun haha.

Hey I already PM'ed Albireo,

But would anyone be interested in joining if I attempted to make an official sc student organization/club at osu?

They allocate for a beginning club ~$200 (pizza anyone? or to buy gift cards to host small tourny's?) and provide a room/time at the union (if available). In addition, student leaders are able to check out laptops during meeting times, I am not sure how this would work with sc2 but ya putting it out there.
In some of the rooms at the union that can be used for clubs they have large projector screens.

They also provide other resources but when I was looking through the osu's website those looked like the highlights.

Handing out officer positions/titles is another benefit just to have 'vice president' on a resume (leadership position).

Biggest issue I see is getting computers together, but if it comes to it:

Honestly I just think it'd be fun to watch some stuff on a large projector and see some OSU ppl compete in CSL against other schools.

Replied to reside's PM, but I guess I should explain myself a bit more here as well.

I'm really not that interested in heading a club at this point in time. Watching my friends start up their club during freshman/sophomore year was a little discouraging (though, the safety concerns may have been what caused most issues) and I'd really like to avoid having people wanting me to set up events and then have to run them... It's just not appealing to me.

Anyone else is free to start up an SC2 club of their own. People from the team might want to participate, though I couldn't promise anything like showing matches on a projector or anything like that. To be honest I don't think it would happen.

LOL I'm not sure how you make a club team. Probably have to make a club, then... be a team. Or something. Look into it, I think you can get the athletic director's phone number somewhere.

Hey guys! Myself and a friend are coming down to OSU in the coming weeks. What kind of player are you looking for? We're committed to learning and improving our play, we do this very enthusiastically, but at this point still aren't exactly the top of the ladder. The prospect of having a like-minded group of players is exciting, but I'm not sure if we'd make the cut. Thanks!

I replied to you by PM with the information on how to join and I think some other info. I don't remember exactly, it's been a few days.

I hope someone still checks this. My roommate (she works at gamestop) heard that there is an OSU starcraft team and we were wondering what the joining process is. I'm not sure how open you are to girl players but we would love to join!

Our team coordinator is female so I doubt that would be am issue...

But as long as you go to OSU feel free to join, no skill min or max caps.
We have alot of people on the team already and most don't get a chance to have game time during actual matches. But everyone gets to enjoy the team practices and everyonce in awhile we meet up as a team to watch GSL finals or grab some food.

Send a PM to Albireo if still interested.
