It might be painful and annoying now but just think of the even worse pain you are avoiding later in life when they cause problems. Some people have to have them out and some don't (I don't yay). If your dentist recommends it then I'd say having them taken out is a damn good idea.

One of my friends ignored the advice and ended up losing more than just his wisdom teeth. The operation also cost him a shitload more than it would have to just have them pulled before they caused problems.

You'll be back in action in no time

I had a pretty painfree experience.

Took all 4 out at once under general anaesthesia. I then proceeded to sleep 40 out of the next 48 hours, so by the time I was actually fully concious, I had no pain or annoyances except for a giant blood spot on my pillow.

Take some meds!

Nothing can be as bad as my wisdom teeth operation experience. One of the highlights was when the dentist dropped one of them down my throat and I proceeded to fucking choke on it ^_^ No lie.

Damn, I really need to get this done but i keep putting it off... now im going to be scared about the dentist dropping teeth down my throat. Great.

Starcraft 2 is a perfectly good painkiller. Ice cream is also nice. And make sure you clean out your holes regularly, or food will stay lodged in them and your breath will smell terrible.

I had mine removed a few months ago. Fortunately, I had percocets which made the experience a lot easier. The entire experience wasn't as bad for me as everyone made it out to be. Got tired of having to eat soup, ice cream, and pudding all the time.

man i've heard so many stories about wisdom teeth. i can't know what you're growing through since i've never had any problems with mine, and i doubt they'll be taken out, since they've grown well and there hasn't been any discomfort or pain.

Wow, those of you who got all four out of once are fucking ballers. I got two of them out 1 at a time when I was 15. Hurts like shit, and there is soooo much blood

And for some reason, every time I swallowed my throat would hurt really bad. Did anyone else get that? That was what really pissed me off.

yeah, and if you fuck up bad enough you can cut your stitches...

uhm, am I the only one in here that didn't have blood marks on his pillow the first few nights after the operation?

Very bad advice on day 1/2.

Take your vics and go to sleep.

Smoking can lead to irritation and even dry socket similiar to how a straw would.

Edit: However if you made some nice soft brownies I'm sure you could put those down :D

As tempting as it is, you're not supposed to do this btw. The smoke can get in your blood and holes in your mouth and apparently is really unhealthy.

It sucks. Had four of mine out at once a year back, and it just sucked.

Pain wasn't too bad. You have them meds for that. The only issue was that food kept getting clogged in the holes in back when you tried to eat stuff and it was a nuisance. Also, quickly got tired of ice cream after that. Soup and pudding too. Guarantee you won't wanna eat any of those for at least a couple months after that.

Quoted for truth. They said, "we either take 2 or all 4 at once." I was like fuck that all at once.

HA! You all had it easy.

I had them all out at once (a few weeks after my fifteenth birthday, ah memories), and then THEY ALL GOT DRY SOCKET.

I had pain for four months, and even at the end of four months some days I would wake up with one of the sockets completely swollen with blood.

Honestly, the pain killers dont do shit.

What actually DOES work, is the anti-inflammatory meds.

The first day wasnt bad for me, but the 2nd-3rd or 4th were the WORST. I woke up the 2nd day like OMFG, my whole jaw, and side of my face up to my temples, was pounding, and couldnt get back to sleep.

What I didnt realize, was it was because the anti inflammatory drugs wore off. I took the painkillers and the antibiotics immediately, and didnt take the inflam's because I was like "Screw it I dont think it's from that". But later on when I took them, a few mins later it went away instantly. I took them as scheduled, even took 1 extra on the 2nd day becuase they only seemed to last for 5 hours and it only perscribed 3 a day. By the time I was out of them (a weeks worth), the pain was completely gone w/o the meds.

So make sure you take the inflams on a perfect schedule, hell even if they wear off an hour early, take em again, you wont need them after those few days where the swelling is at its worst. They work better than the pain killers even, because nausea is common with them, especially when you dont have any solid foods in your stomach. The last thing you want is to be nauseous, or even vomit, when you had your teeth out.

It sounds like a lot of the people here either didnt get the anti inflam's, or didnt take them. BIG MISTAKE! They seriously get rid of the pain.

As long as you take the anti-inflam's, the pain isnt the worst part, its not bad at all. having to stick to liquid foods and jello is lol.

For anyone who is scared to get theirs out, just make sure you request anti inflammatory meds if you dont get perscribed them. They seriously do wonders.

I got all 4 removed at once, and two of them had to be crushed inside my jaw. Oh and they were still deep inside the gums so the doc had to cut the open with a scalpel. No pain whatsoever and only swelling for 2 days. After reading some of the responses i feel lucky :D
