Any competitive DotA teams?

Hi,

It's been a while since I blogged. Anyway, WCG decided to give us 4 days notice for the Korean qualifers for DotA (Sign-up within 4 day period -> 2 days of qualifiers -_-), so our team is rather in a hurry to get some last minute practice. There are maybe only 2-3 'good' teams in Korea so finding practice opponents in Korea is out of the question.

We're looking for team(s) that meet these criteria:
- fairly high level of play
- close to asia (acceptable ping, ggc ofc)
- flexible time
- flexible play style (optional)
- access to hostbot (optional)

We haven't played together as much as I hoped, so my goal is to find heroes and lineups that work best for us. Tournaments in Korea are scarce, so scrims are most common and usually, there is an unsaid 'let's-not-gay-each-other' manner thing for more entertaining games, like not picking phantom lancer even though it's a pretty safe insurance policy. But, the WCG qualifers is a different story; it's probably THE tournament where every team plays only to win (lame, unexpected shit) obviously, which means that we need to know what wins over what's fun/manly o_o

So, who's up for some DotA? :D

There are several teams that play "high level" dota in Europe.
e.g. MYM
However, the latency might be problematic...

Yea, well, Europe is probably at the bottom of the list in terms of ping. We've played in some UShostbots that gave us slightly over 100 ping but were very comfortable to play in. I don't think I can say the same for Europe, not that we've really tried.

And I use the term high level loosely. Just to clarify, I wouldn't describe my team as pro at all, just competitive.

Our main goal is to find a style that works for us, rather than to improve or learn so as long as the games are somewhat meaningful, if you know what I mean, it'll help.

Commander Heen!! Carry us to victory!!

Not really a good place to look for competitive high level DotA teams, I don't really know how Asian leagues function and I don't think they see here though >_<, but oh well any publicity works

I don't have any suggestions for teams, but good luck for you and your team in your unorganised WCG venture!

Maybe you could look in AEDL for teams or something? Though, you've probably already considered it. >_< Too bad I know very little about Asian dota scene apart from the big Chinese teams.

Good luck to you though!

Teamliquid is a starcraft forum. I think you'll find more people knowledgable about dota at a dota forum like playdota.com.

Hi Vicious!
Bricked is still playing, although he's not on our roster. How've you been? Playing some DotA now and then? ^^

To me, TL isnt' just a BW site any more. It's become more like a multi-interest board now. The problem I have with DotA boards is that they're 90% for downloading replays or idiots having flame wars in the replays comments section. In terms of finding scrim opponents, I'd say most of the well known DotA sites are useless or inactive.

I do have some contacts of my own, mostly from Malaysia, but the more the better I suppose. It's also more fun to play with people you have some connections to

I've been around the Aus competitive community for a few years but I only really play casually lately. That said, I can get a team together to play you guys sometime or give you some contacts of leaders from Aus/NZ. My garena name is BV-m1LkmaN

Then what site isn't a joke? I think you used to post on dota-allstars.com, but that site is dead. Playdota is the best site I've seen.

ROFL as a former staff there, I know that it's a joke. The admins are cool, the coders are cool, Icefrog is cool, the community there is as Vicious like to say, IQ OF ABORTED FETUS.

Heen, no one on IRC will play with you?

If not hit up Juzaguy on PD.com, he manages one of the top Asian teams who's name escapes me right now, he's former staff too and should know you fairly well (since him and OwL OwL did the match reporting for the Asian scene on PD.com).

Fear and Maelk both should be training pretty hard for ESWC with their new members right now, I am sure they'll appreciate some mannered Asian teams right now. Maelk I knwo you can reach through IRC/Dota-League/PD.com. Fear you can probably troll Demon hard enough to reach.

TEG and SGC usually looks for scrims on IRC through the usual channels. Post on Dota-Pride and AEDL will probably get you higher than normal quality (aka not fucking canihasbottlefirst) responses.

Heen! I've been playing tons of sc2 beta when I had time. I have a lot less time to play due to work and real life taking a shit on me in 2010..but I'm playing some casually now because I got curious how the game has changed. Hopefully you guys are all still playing when I visit korea again when I graduate [ year or year+ LOL ]

Anyway...I'd follow what Judicator said, that's your best bet I think.

Yeah I'm still on DA but its dead for all DotA purposes. Competitive players mostly hang out on smaller/regional forums, and you can find some good teams on garena forums if you manage to navigate it. PlayDotA is what dota-strategy was a few years back, the site where all the noobs who google dota go to.

To be fair, if you show a semblance of thought on PD.com, you'll get noticed. The problem is wading through the pages and pages of absolute shit to get to the good posts. I know a fair amount of changes to heroes/items/gameplay has come out of the PD.com and I know for a fact that Icefrog keeps a pretty close eye on the forums. Plus the Mechanics group is just straight up pro.

Also, Heen, just do gay shit, you can't go wrong with it. If you can't do that, good luck, because all of the recent games suggest this version is the 4 leave 1 farming strategies. Turtling is still on the table but teams have gotten much better at stopping the game from reaching that point.
